Fantastic read. I just have to put this out there: READ THAT BOOK.Â

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION: Government has closed once-public immigration hearings, has secretly detained hundreds of people without charges, and has encouraged bureaucrats to resist public records questions.
RIGHT TO A SPEEDY AND PUBLIC TRIAL: Government may jail Americans indefinitely without a trial.
RIGHT TO LIBERTY: Americans may be jailed without being charged or being able to confront witnesses against them.

Those are examples, if your that interested in the subject read that book he gives off numerous examples and cites all his sources correctly. I will not crack open the book at this second, but he has chapter after chapter on these ideas.
Jimmy Carter is a great person that every one should at least read this book.. Why? Because he expertly gives a clear view from a rationale former president who goes after both sides, not to mention is veyr non partisan in this book.. He falls into no logical fallacies what so ever through out his entire argument.
While it may have been over the top, its understandable given the circumstances. Cho wrote similar musings in his own notebooks and plays.slateman_basic
So now we arrest everyone who *might* do something?!? Ever seen the movie Minority Report? You can't arrest someone for something they DIDN'T DOÂ

He needs to be analyzed plain and simple.. We have turned into a nation of wimps honestly..
Infact I loved the interview of this one arabic girl who survived the shooting in VT (RIP victims), the interviewer wasn't that scary how did that feel.. I loved her response, she said squarely that she is from the middle east, these things happen.. This totally caught the Interviewer off guard not to mention make them stfu..

im not a big carter fan btw.

A book is a better source than the internet.
And of course you're against Carter. He's like... the anti-Bush.

I remember that. The interviewer wanted a sob story, but instead, the girl told it how it is. The world needs to be more like that.

Mmmm I suggest you take a look at Endangered Values, its a real short read and is fabulous in all respects.. Jimmy Carter shouldn't be considered the anti-bush...
For instance he is a devout Christian though he does strongly believe in the precipts of church and state seperate.

Anti Bush is too partisan, Carter is very indifferent in his approachs of numerous issues.  Anti- Bush to me seems like a person that is immensely partisan not to mention bias..Â
ironically, i always thought carter was too good of a guy to be president.

Nothing needs to change, cho broke the law in aquiring his guns.. If the laws were more highly regulated nothing like this would have happened.. The way I see it is school shootings are a ugly fact of life.. They can never be stopped, it is a price we pay for our freedoms..Â
Also a good fact every one should know is.. People who plead criminal insanity spends WAY More time in a mental institution than they ever would in a prison. The guy should be analyzed by a psychologists and make it like a parole offier that he has to meet them every so often.. This is the most extreme I would take it.Â
Now this sounds bad but regardless of the VT shooting this is infact SMALL loss for our price of freedoms.  VT shooting is a example why our freedoms should always hold sway..  Every founder of the Constitution risked everything including their families and their lives (not ot mention their brutal torture if they were caught).. It would be treason in my opinion to try to change laws to make kids safer (which they are statistically very safe.).
If the kid doesn't have the judgement to refrain from writing something like that in a school after the VT shooting, then he had it coming, straight A's or not. This won't receive any dissaproval from me.

Great, you can be the first to give up all your freedom in the name of security ;)
It was a proper response to the situation.
Its one thing to censor opinions. And another to prevent disaster. I know that if I attended that guy's highschool I wouldn't want to be near him.
The Constitution doesn't protect his opinion anyways, he is creating a possible dangerous situation in writing this. Who knows what his emotional and mental state is, joking or not you just dont joke about that stuff. Past victims of shootings have said that the main way to prevent these shootings is by understanding the issue! This issue needs to be resolved to assure the safety of the people.
Who cares what the assignment said, if the person was in the right mind then I'd think he'd choose to write about something else, given the recent shooting at VT.

How pathetically cliche. Please, don't pretend to know my political views.Â
I didn't say anything about security. In fact, I don't think he posed a threat to anyone at all. I just think he's an idiot for writing something like that in the wake of the shooting, and I have absolutely no problem with him being punished for it....pretty simple. It has nothing to do with freedom or security.

It's not a question of whether it was a smart idea or not. You don't punish someone for being an idiot if they haven't actually done anything wrong...Â

So we should wait until he kills X amount of people before punishing him. Great logic.Â

I do think it was wrong, and certainly inappropriate. I just don't think it was security threat.
look, obviously we have different views on crime. i dont believe the constitution is in danger if you arrest a guy writing about shooting people and getting it on with there bodies. Then let me be blunt: you don't understand the constitution.

Only someone with issues or severly unintelligent would write such a thing in today's society, particularly after what just happened in Virginia.
Am I the only one who's considered the possibility that the kid is trying to prove a point.ÂIt was incredibly bad judgement on the part of the kid, but at the same time I think the school and the authorities completely overreacted.Â
You should never be arrested and detained for voicing your opinion, no matter how sick and deranged it may be. People have the right to express themselves, and it's a slippery slope once you start putting limits on what people can and cannot say.Â

My statement stands.....after what just happened and the fact that those thoughts are NOT and have NOT be tolerated in schools for some years....he does have issues or he's stupid. PERIOD.

He's not being charged for having an opinion. What's the difference between this kid and the other school shooters? They left messages that were ignored....that's what. Guess how many innocent victims they claimed. Look at VT and Columbine if you need a refresher course in possibly ignoring warning signs.

It isn't against the law to have issues, or to be stupid.  This is nothing more than a knee jerk reaction by the school administration and the police.
