It's good to know English, it's good to know more than one language. America's greatness was never defined by it's choice of language but by the actions of the people...which imho...speaks louder and clearer than words. I care more about the deeds of people then the grunts/moans/sounds verbalized through their mouths. There will always be people in America that will not learn English, yet they are still able to live a comfortable and prosperous life. That's a beautiful thing that is rarely witnessed anywhere else on this planet.
No shit. You can stay home and hear it.
American is about chemical and food companies that serve toxic, empty caloric crap. The ethnicity of those who shill it shouldn't matter!
all the same I'm sure no American soldier served not to hear America the Beautiful in another language
I just wanna know what multi-culturalism has to do with with selling shitty, nasty, unhealthy, sugar water.
because everyone regardless of their race loves shitty, nasty, unhealthy, sugar water.
No clue on how anyone can get offended by a fucking commercial...
All commercials are offensive.....
This ad is more American than half the shit people in this country consider American. Cars, music, holidays, and sports are more American than a commercial about different races and cultures being together in the U.S.? Please.
The ad is great, and the people complaining about it are silly. You'd have to go out of your way to be offended by something like this.
nice ad.
sappy, corny and manipulative like all advertising but nice nevertheless.
just to play the devils advocate maybe some people think this stuff is strange or unacceptable because their ancestors worked like hell to # 1 fit in and assimilate into the culture and # 2 get away from the lynch mobs that hated strange immigrants moving in.

Which would be pretty fvcking ironic because they are basically showing the same kind of intolerance they are fearful of.
I didn't quite get the purpose of the ad? I wasn't offended it was just a god awful stupid ad to me. How does singing an American song in several different languages in anyway promote Coca-cola.
this.
I did care about showing different culturaly background people. Many commercials and whatever, have done the whole, "oh look at us here in the US, how diverse we are!".
Even if the ad just had all white people doing american stuff, with that horrid song, how does that make a good ad for Coke. Or anything.
Unless this ad was for 4th of July, I dont see why it should of even been created or how it is relevant to anything.
To me, that commercial was not about a bunch of racially diverse Americans singing a song. It was about a bunch of random people from different ethnicities who happen to live in America. If you want to be an American you should learn English. I wouldn't move to Spain and not learn Spanish, and I sure as hell wouldn't sing a song about Spanish heritage in English. Maybe if it was a bunch of people singing the song in English with different accents it would have had a better impact.
I like how hardcore 'muricans **** yeah bro dudes still think that people come to the US and dont want to learn english.
Yeah, they totally just down right refuse to learn english >_>
Oh and trust me.... NeverMore0, no one sings your precious patriotic song in other languages. There is no America the Beautiful made in other languages. That was just made up for the ad.
It is not about the Coke commercial, it goes much deeper than that.
America used to be a melting pot, people still claim it is but it most absolutely is not. My family came from Italy in the early 20th century because they wanted to be AMERICANS. They flew the American flag outside their home, they celebrated American culture, they learned English, and they became part of the community. They refused to be Italians living in America, they were Italian-Americans. They held on to their Italian culture (as all should) but embraced America's as well. They melted in with Americans.
THIS is what immigration looked like in the 20th century.
Fast forward to 2014.....and you have a bunch of people from other countries living in America that could not care less about our culture, language, flag, patriotism, or anything else. They refuse to melt in but rather flock together as birds with others from their nation of origin. Instead of keeping their culture and melting it with ours they simply cordon themselves off from the rest of the country and create their own little piece of their country in their neighborhood. This is happening all over America and is the current state of our "melting pot" of water and oil.
So while this commercial should feel good, it does not. If we truly were a melting pot this commercial would be celebrating our diversity, but it is not. All this commercial does is rub salt in the wound.
That right there, sounds very very similar to what someone would say back in the 20th century when your family and many others arrived and got their own communities within the community.
But you have to consider that some may just be fucking around, making fun of people who would actually feel that way. Plus those who tweet the stuff to seek attention and get it
Today has proven to me that many actually feel this way, unfortunately. The anger over this has been everywhere.
When the song first started I thought it was going to be a bunch of people criticizing Coca-Cola for using a patriotic song when more and more people are becoming anti-government. Then when it switched to another language it became obvious.
Stuff like this is why so many people mock anybody who praises troops now.
This ad is contrived and boring. Offended, Nope and I do agree it would have been better if they sang in English even if they were struggling with the words.
If anything the only thing I am offended with it is they are trying to "celebrate US diversity" to promote their product..

It's like you were trying to be a dick towards me while simultaneously proving my point. Thank you.
this still going on? smh.
hey guys, I'm from NYC, this is probably the most diverse place in America (in the world). It's most likely the oldest functioning city on the planet and arguably the greatest city due to its spread in unity and diversity. There are people here from everywhere, generations of cultures spanning from all around the globe.
In my neighborhood alone most of the stores/businesses are owned by Hispanics, Middle Easterners, Asians, West and East Indians, ...and many of them either don't speak English or do it very good.
A hugh and very important part of lower Manhattan is known as "Soho" (China Town). Every store/biz there is advertised in mandarin/Chinese...there are thousands of people there that have never spoken a lick of English...yet that part of NYC makes VERY BIG bank for the city, probably more than any other place in the country.
In NY...the government, civil, city jobs/positions (everything) is all filled with people from all over the world. Police officers wear Turbins and Yarmukas, Teachers are from Korea and South Africa, Court officials are Brazilian and Filipino, Judges are Mexicans and Jamaican. The military is completely multicultural, many of the soldiers have roots in other countries and look at serving in the armed forces as a way to help stabilize their futures while displaying their allegiance. Everything in this city is run by people from all around the world. And that's one of the main reasons why it excels so well, and why it's so famous and so revered. It's a great model of humanity, unity propels everyone, divisions will only create a stag-nation.
The Language can be an issue at times but it never really causes a problem nor defines the nation. I can't help but to imagine racist people and/or envious hermits and people from secluded suburbs catching feelings from this commercial. A lack of perspective seems to be apparent here, this false image of America is one of the very things hurting America.
A lack of English is just that...nothing more or less. People are rich and poor, bad and good, ignorant and wise with or with out it. This instance says a lot about people who makes a big deal about such things. Stuck in the past with that old flawed primordial mindset. I'm wondering what they did/do to make America great...
.

It's a few thousand years off.
Not offended however I did find a couple issues with the commercial.
For one, all the white people were speaking English. Do we no longer have Italian, German, (Caucasian) French and Russian immigrants? The language differences were pretty much based on the color of ones skin.
Secondly, why sugarcoat things? A very large amount of foreign speaking immigrants are living in poverty. But do you think Coke would visit places like Mexicantown in South West Detroit and have people sing America the Beautiful?
As a Malaysian, this kind of controversy is pretty amusing to me. We have a population of <30 million, a land area about 30 times smaller than the U.S. and actual legal discrimination in favour of the ethnic majority but commercials (patriotic or not) are regularly aired in Chinese and/or English.
I just wanna know what multi-culturalism has to do with with selling shitty, nasty, unhealthy, sugar water.
Everything. People likes to associate themselves with something, marketers knows that. This ad is just trying to appeal to as many people as possible so that they can go buy that poor excuse of a drink. When someone will go to buy sodas, they going to remember the ad that sold them an emotion.
They are the same idiots that think 'Muricah was founded on Christian tenets and that taking "God" out of anything is an affront to their entire existence.
Just a bunch of racist, homophobic, xenophobes that perpetuate the stereotype of the dumb (usually Southern) American.
There have been some pretty rational explanations why people could be offended by this....but yea just keep coming with irrational responses and ignore any and all reason.
The sad fact in this country today is you are not allowed to be offended by anything unless you are homosexual or a minority.
