This isn't a breaking development by a long shot. Thoughts: If it blows, bummer. If it doesn't, cool.

Yellowstone could erupt tomorrow, or it could erupt in millions of years. Nobody knows, but the danger has always been there and always will be. And besides, it's likely that North America wouldn't be the only place affected; it would be a global disaster.

The knowledge of the Yellowstone volcano has been popular for about as long as the whole 2012 thing has. CNN are just slow or something I guess.

No, a volcanic eruption of that size would effect the entire planet.

It would definitely affect the entire world. The US would get the worst of it but the amount of ashes expelled into the air would probably cause chaos around the globe. It could for example, lower the average temperature of the world for years.

For example: Year Without a Summer

Yeah, because there totally aren't global air currents that can carry pollution around the globe.

It would globally affect the atmosphere; North America would be devastated, but the whole world would suffer from freezing temperatures and failed crops for years. And I said it *could* happen in a million years, these things don't run on clocks or calendars. They just happen, and actually, there was a reasonable amount of activity there last decade that has now died down significantly. So compared to say, 2006, it's now seeming less likely to happen soon. Our lifetimes are insignificant really, and it's likely that the build up to an eruption would take hundreds of years anyway; and that doesn't seem to have started yet. We'll be dead before it happens.

An explosive eruption wouldn't necessarily occur anyways. A hydrothermal eruption is much more likely, and much less destructive; and that's when the volcano erupts.

There was a recent story about a far away star (almost the size of our sun) that is going to implode soon. It will collapse on itself and then explode. Earth will be in complete light for weeks on end. That could be interesting. Stumbling out of the bar at 2 AM and it's bright and sunny outside.

If America goes, the rest of the world will be in bad shape, even if they don't realize it.

So its a global concern.

"it's kind of funny reading the 3 inches per year for the last three years alone you're writing about ,it's the exact same rate that wikipedia has on the rise of the Yellowstone caldera floor....for the years 2004-2008. after that it slowed down and almost came to a halt. infact, the usgs.gov monthly reports about it actually is talking about a slight subsidence in the last 3 reports. great research for your article , really...."
