This isn't a breaking development by a long shot. Thoughts: If it blows, bummer. If it doesn't, cool.SeraphimGoddessi dont know. its the first i ever heard of it. CNN was making a big deal about it and brought in Dr. michio kaku to talk about it.

Yellowstone could erupt tomorrow, or it could erupt in millions of years. Nobody knows, but the danger has always been there and always will be. And besides, it's likely that North America wouldn't be the only place affected; it would be a global disaster.cjeknot million. thouasand. so theres a good chance for it to happen in our life time. and no it will just affect half of america and some parts of canada. mostly due to the toxic air
The knowledge of the Yellowstone volcano has been popular for about as long as the whole 2012 thing has. CNN are just slow or something I guess.i dont know. its the first i ever heard of it. CNN was making a big deal about it and brought in Dr. michio kaku to talk about it.

No, a volcanic eruption of that size would effect the entire planet.

It would definitely affect the entire world. The US would get the worst of it but the amount of ashes expelled into the air would probably cause chaos around the globe. It could for example, lower the average temperature of the world for years.
For example: Year Without a Summer

not million. thouasand. so theres a good chance for it to happen in our life time. and no it will just affect half of america and some parts of canada. mostly due to the toxic air It would globally affect the atmosphere; North America would be devastated, but the whole world would suffer from freezing temperatures and failed crops for years. And I said it *could* happen in a million years, these things don't run on clocks or calendars. They just happen, and actually, there was a reasonable amount of activity there last decade that has now died down significantly. So compared to say, 2006, it's now seeming less likely to happen soon. Our lifetimes are insignificant really, and it's likely that the build up to an eruption would take hundreds of years anyway; and that doesn't seem to have started yet. We'll be dead before it happens.[QUOTE="cjek"]Yellowstone could erupt tomorrow, or it could erupt in millions of years. Nobody knows, but the danger has always been there and always will be. You want a bunch of innocent people to die from toxic fumes and famine so just you get some giggles?
An explosive eruption wouldn't necessarily occur anyways. A hydrothermal eruption is much more likely, and much less destructive; and that's when the volcano erupts.

It will collapse on itself and then explode. Earth will be in complete light for weeks on end. That could be interesting. Stumbling out of the bar at 2 AM and it's bright and sunny outside."it's kind of funny reading the 3 inches per year for the last three years alone you're writing about ,it's the exact same rate that wikipedia has on the rise of the Yellowstone caldera floor....for the years 2004-2008. after that it slowed down and almost came to a halt. infact, the usgs.gov monthly reports about it actually is talking about a slight subsidence in the last 3 reports. great research for your article , really...."

Just an fyi, you'd be screwed no matter where you are. You don't "destroy a continent" and then the rest are okay.
[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"]Death and destruction hell yeah!_R34LiTY_
that bring quick deaths
we want FAMINE & PESTILENCE to make it slow and agonizing
Death and destruction will be quick to America, but Famine and and pestilence will eventually reach the rest of the world from such an event :)well that sux. i want something to happen in my life time before i die...cmon:cry:[QUOTE="HaloReachGOTY"]

thats pretty ****** up
[QUOTE="Atmanix"][QUOTE="l4dak47"]We're actually overdue for one. Could happen right now. Be kinda cool, actually.l4dak47
In what way would it be cool?
It's a thing that only happens every 600 million years. We're all going to die. Why not die this way.because i wanna live to the rip old age of 100 maybe 90 but burning to death or suffocating due to toxic fumes does not sound like a good way to die

Don't knock it 'til you try it.
This is the new(?) news: Yellowstone Has Bulged as Magma Pocket Swells
But yea, it could blow anytime...
