What are we funding the UN for if they're not even going to stop these heinous crimes from happening? Herp derp, lets put OBSERVERS(with the ability to do absolutely dick) in the country and see what the Syrian government does next!

The UN is worthless. Might as well disband it and give all the funding to the United States so we don't need to use so much taxpayer dollars to keep the peace.

[QUOTE="GazaAli"][QUOTE="ShadowMoses900"]

Funny how people attack Israel and want the Arabs to take it over, and yet ignore all the barbaric violnence that happens in these Arab Cultures. People are such hypocrites.

Funny how that works. Especially considering that Israel would NEVER do a massacre of children or anything similar, they value human rights.

Can't say the same for some of the Arab countries as this thread proves.

ShadowMoses900

oh grow up for fvck sake, its embarrassing.

It's the truth, your the one who is embarrassed by it.

I feel terrible for these children, I hate that these things happen. The fact remains that many of there cultures are backwards and ran by brutal dictators. That is the truth.

I see so many people on here attack Israel and say it's a bad country and side with the Arabs over the Jews, but then they ignore the fact that no massacre like this would ever happen in Israel.

They don't do that, people have rights there. It's completely hypocritical for them to be against Israel and then ignore what Arab countries do. I don't know the best solution to solving the problems in the Middle East.

It's a very tribal like society, I don't think there will be peace for a long time. The UN is going to have to crack down on them and make sure this kind of viloence never happens again.

They have a European Union, why not have a Middle Eastern Union with Israel at the helm? They would have to follow Israels example and become Democracies, or they would be black listed and wouldn't have any support from the Union. That would solve a lot of problems.

jesus fvcking christ, are you twelve years old? have israel rule the middle east? Are you smoking something?

More like a sectarian war. I don't think this is common with civil war per say.

There are good Arabs and bad Arabs, just like there are good Jews and bad Jews. However many Arab cultures are backwards and barbaric, they are inferior and need to change. If they don't more massacres like this are bound to happen.

In Israel, women are allowed to walk around and dress freely, people can practice any religion they choose openly, even gay people are allowed to serve openly in the military. Go over to an Arab country and watch what happens if one tries to do ANY of those things. It doesn't end welll.

Israel and the Jews are the victims, not the bad guys.

Agreed. You can criticize the US about having it's nose in the affairs of too many sovereign nations, but at least we have the capability of preventing these horrors from happening.

its easy to complain about the UN being useless and such, but the reality is this is the only way it can function and still have legitimacy all over the world. if it were to take away the veto power of Russia and China then the UN would pretty much become a gang of western democracies.

As it should be. Until the other nations grow up, we should be the ones(US, Canada, EU, etc) calling the shots.

The UN has become pretty usless no doubt. Aside from watching innocent people get massacred, they also let dictators OPENLY speak at their confrences and make threats to others. They even let the locker B bomber talk before, and otheres who openly say they want to destroy America, England, Israel, France ect...

The UN it'self my be there for a reason, United Nations was orgionally started by Churchill as a means to avoid another WW2 (it was called the League of Nations back then).

Today however it doesn't really seem to do it's purpose. There were cases of mass genocides in African countries and the UN was there and they could have stopped it, they had the gun power and everything. But they didn't do a damn thing, they just sat ther eand observed. That's all they ever do, is "observe". It's completely stupid.

I still believe the UN should be around, but it needs to be reformed, big time.

what does that have to do with the subject at hand? nevermind that to call the Arabs and their culture backwards or barbaric is a bit odd, given that western culture has its own flaws. oh and btw, the idea of having a Mideast union is hilarious, this region hardly agrees on water allocation and secterian/tribal/religious/ethnic issues, let alone have a union (the Arab league should say something about how effective things are), nevermind the idea of Israel (which most Arabs dislike at best) leading it.

Every nation is self-interested. There are, however, nations with larger degrees of interest in keeping peace and stability in the world. And I promise you, it's not China, Russia, or any country in the Middleeast.

See Israel get's the most support, and the other ME countries get pressured into joining the Middle Eastern Union by the UN, the countries that do must become democracies and follow Israels example (freedom of religion, equal rights for women, no child massacres ect...you know basic human rights).

The countries that reject it become black listed and get cut off from all support, no trading, no aid, not anything. They get kicked out of the UN and they get absolutely zero support for anything. They get put under constant surveilance by the UN and if they try to harm anyone they get their ass kicked.

This would solve a lot of problems in the ME. I think it's a great idea! Especially Israel at the head of this union, it would have the most influence and call most of the shots.

Im starting to understand better why in the west plurality is an absolute must, its the reason why the US would elect a black president, or a Jewish person running for Prime Minister in the UK. this kind of mentality simply doesnt exist in the Middle East, even without the conflict, I doubt any Arabs would be happy if their leaders (at least at very government positions, and this includes a EU-esque organisations) were non Muslim and non Arab, they would not accept it. it would be like Israel having an Arab prime minister (the law allows it, but it would never happen for obvious reasons)

Kid, you are fvcking batsh!t insane. Nothing less than certifiable. It's almost like you want the ME, including Israel, to be war zone.

I don't want it to be a war zone, and I'm not a kid. The one thing that ME countries would listen to would be the UN if they did their job. If the UN came down hard on them, there wouldn't be massacres in the ME or as much conflicts or wars. They would all listen to the UN.

Of course the ME countries wouldn't agree to join a union with Israel, they would reject it. However if the UN applied pressure they would be forced to join. Or at least have a peace treaty where Isarel doesn't get attacked and the ME are NOT allowed to do any child massacres or any human rights violations.

The UN has the power to make them democracies, they have the power to stop this. But they don't use it.

I'm 22, and yes Israel being at the helm of a ME union would be a great thing. They wouldn't rule over the other countries, they would just have the most influence. It would be like the EU.

Especially Israel at the head of this union, it would have the most influence and call most of the shots.

lol, sure , I look forward to this union , which would likely culimanate with the leaders taking a picture together, then going home as if this union doesn't exist. and no , the UN can't do much in this region , it certainly can't force anybody to do anything, the UN is actually in Syria right now, all that happens is that the army stops shooting everytime an odd UN observer is in the city, as soon as he leaves, the fighting goes on as intended

You are a kid because you never grew up. The idea you proposed could only ever end in complete and total catastrophe for all parties involved. It would nothing short of a humanitarian disaster by every single metric. Israel doesn't listen to the U.N., either and has a p. shoddy human rights record, even if it isn't quite genocidal. Jesus, son, do you even think?

The UN is pretty usless no doubt, but if they were to lay their foot down for a change you would see change. The ME is just too set in a hatred mentality for peace to be possible there. It's a very tribal like mentality and they will keep those conflicts going forever. A lot of people don't want to set aside their hate and move on.

so if you understand the Middle East has a very tribal mentality (which isnt totally without truth) , why in the world do you think anybody can force anything on it. like I said, the Arabs , even witout peace, would never agree to being in any union where the one country which isnt Arab/Islamic/Sunni is leader, its simply crazy to ask them to do so, nevermind that diplomacy in this region is done behined closed doors , not in big conferences.

I've already taken political and government classes in my college and I got high praises from the professor. One time the WHOLE class gave me a round of applause, it's true. And there were plenty of foreign exchange students and I went out with the girls and they all said they liked my ideas. Some of the girls were even from the ME.

So I think I'm pretty good. After all I passed the class with flying colors. I'm taking the advanced ones now.

actually, it depends , Im studying in Europe, and what Ive noticed is that they essentially get taught the UN is an all wonderful thing , so honestly, some would actually arrive at the same conclusion (one person even suggested Israel should protect Bahrain , a comment I just laughed at )

It took the U.S. trillions of dollars, thousands of lives, access to the world's largest military, and some additional external assistance---and counting---to do what it has done in the past decade. I don't see the U.N. ever being able to, even if it wanted to, get that much support. And even then, we're not talking about one or two rogue countries; we're talking about the entire region. That said, it could do little things. Intervention in Syria would be nice. If we weren't pvssies, we could just go in their ourselves, maybe w/ a bit of EU support.

thats the million dollar question isnt it, but some sort of crazy, UN enforced Mideast union headed by Israel is certainly something that sounds like political fairy tale. but this region will have war in it because of its nature, no single piece of paper , wheter written at the UN or on the desk of the King of Saudia will change that. in fact, I would say even the state system is hard to maintain in this region , simply given the loyalties of people.

Perhaps the only way to understand that region is to live there. I think the mentality and cultures of the ME are something that are just too foreign for us Westerners to understand. And believe me we had A TON of classes about the region, guess the only way to understand it is to visit it.

I am going to visit Israel soon, I can go there for free with the birth right program.
