Well, tbh, if I saw my students (in the future...) having laptops in cIass (that is if I become a uni professor; because at schools here such things are already banned but not in universities), I would feel neglected and a bit useless, but I wouldnt consider banning it. I simply cant do that.
IMO, a student can do whatever they like in cIass as long as they are not hindering me while teaching or the rest of the students while trying to listen to me.
Interesting....so if they are getting drunk but not bothering anyone else....that would be okay?Well, tbh, if I saw my students (in the future...) having laptops in cIass (that is if I become a uni professor; because at schools here such things are already banned but not in universities), I would feel neglected and a bit useless, but I wouldnt consider banning it. Notice I am talking about university where the amphitheatre is big and its more comfortable. But of course if there is a regulation that prohibits alcohol consumption in the uni facilities completely of course I would have to tell them to leave the cIassroom.
In schools (apart from the fact that booze isnt allowed altogether; I dont know if it is allowed to bring in the general area of the uni) the cIassrooms are small so I would tell them to leave. Besides they would be underage, so...
Now I know the possible slippery slope you are detecting here; that that could apply even to someone who wants to cuts his veins in cIass but isnt annoying anyone. Well I dont think I should clarify that of course some cases are too extreme for me to only not allow them if they are annoying the rest of the cIassroom.
But idk overall; I have a lot more years ahead of me before becoming a teacher/professor.

Well there you go then. You do see some reason for rules. I was just checking......you left quite a bit of leeway.:P[QUOTE="Teenaged"]I wouldnt tell them to leave unless they were causing some sort of problem.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Interesting....so if they are getting drunk but not bothering anyone else....that would be okay?LJS9502_basic

I'm talking about HS and lower not college.Seems like a case of teachers blaming other things for their inability to keep students on task.

The difference there is that you can't really use a Gameboy to help you with the class.Seems like a case of teachers blaming other things for their inability to keep students on task.

Seems pretty dumb to me, teachers are blaming laptops for distracting students. Maybe it's because their lessons aren't interesting?More here
Anyone encounter this at your school? Your thoughts?

So what if they're not interesting? You're there to learn. You wanna screw off somewhere on your computer, you fail the class. Doesn't matter how exciting the class/lesson is.
This isn't in penmanship class. I don't understand how it's not the student's fault for letting themself become distracted, the laptop doesn't do anything, the student is the one pushing the buttons!
blackngold29
Its distracting to those who have to be around someone with a laptop.
Seems like a way the teachers are trying to get their students attention. Get rid of the distraction.Seems like a case of teachers blaming other things for their inability to keep students on task.

Again that's the students fault for being distracted. Sit in the front row.[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"][QUOTE="blackngold29"]

Again that's the students fault for being distracted. Sit in the front row. Are you serious? Whats to stop someone with a laptop from sitting in the front row? Is the student supposed to stand next to the teacher then?So you're all saying that I should not be allowed to take my laptop to class and use Word or Microsoft OneNote (a program specifically designed for students to take notes on) and use it to properly take notes, even if I never get on facebook or the internet and use it only to better my education on the topic at hand because the simple fact that I have a laptop in front of me is distracting?blackngold29If the teacher says they are not allowed....then no you can't use it.

why dumb? kids could run any program, even porn on laptops....I never used a laptop for school and no one in my country does...its a good move if you ask meSeems pretty dumb to me, teachers are blaming laptops for distracting students. Maybe it's because their lessons aren't interesting?More here

**** that. I need my laptop so I can type notes. There's no way I could keep up with the professors who talk too fast without it.

I stopped using them since 4th grade I stopped using pens/pencils and paper over the course of the last few semesters. Now using pens and pencils make my hands hurt very quickly and I feel bad cause I killed a tree.
