Is anyone here excited for The Amazing Spiderman, which will be released on July 3rd? Initially, I wasn't very excited about it, but the latest trailer makes it look really good, better than the first Spiderman and Spiderman 3. However, I'm not sure if it will be as good as Spiderman 2, which is one of the best superhero films ever made. Anyhow, watch the trailer (if you haven't) and give your opinion. What I like are the following:

  • Spidey seems more humorous and sarcastic when fighting crime, as he is in the comics.
  • Spidey has mechanical web-shooters, instead of organic ones, which is true to the comics.
  • The film doesn't seem like it'll be campy, unlike the previous ones.
  • The story doesn't look like a convoluted mess like Spiderman 3.

don't fall into the hype of trailers, wait until some reviews are out, I'm a big spiderman fan but i really don't like that this remake is out so fast "I know Sony had to do it to keep rights" and I still don't like the lead actor, he plays a corny spiderman and delivers the jokes corny. We'll see, if it gets good word of mouth i'll go watch it, if not then life goes on.

I'm really not feeling the new Spiderman. At all. I doubt I'll ever see it.

I'm the type of guy who'll see a big-name superhero movie no matter what the reviews say. It's just my thing. With that said, I have to admit that I'm not too crazy about Giraffe-neck being chosen to play Spidey, but what can you do? He doesn't seem too bad.

Feeling a little skeptical about it. But, I like Spiderman's attitude, all sarcastic and funny.

The Dark Knight Rises is the Goliath of the summer. No other film - or event of any kind - should incite more excitement. Shame on you.

I am semi-excited. I like the casting of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, I like that we're getting Gwen Stacy as more than just an extra throwaway character, and I really really like that Spidey seems like he will actually talk trash to the bad guys and be sarcastic and funny--a part of the character that was sorely missing in the previous films. I'm also pretty stoked about potentially having a Peter Parker that is not an awkward, socially retarded, man-child crybaby like in the previous films. He's supposed to grow out of that awkwardness and be more or less a regular dude.

Now for the things that bug me:

  • The new costume. I don't like some of the changes made to the classic design, it looks weird to me--really there's way too much blue now, the blue:red ratio is way off.
  • It seems like Captain Stacy will be out to get Spidey the whole time--this is a mischaracterization as Captain Stacy was always one of Spider-Man's biggest supporters. Pretty much one of my favorite Spidey friendships seems like it won't every happen.
  • The origin. Everybody knows Spider-Man's origin already, we don't need it done again.
  • Peter's parents. It's been made clear that this movie will focus on Peter's search for the truth about his long-deceased parents. This has been done before in the comics and cartoons--it never goes well. Furthermore, it's been stated (I think by producers, maybe the director) that this new movie is the start of a whole trilogy about Peter's search for the truth about his parents. Really? I wish these movies would just get Peter's goals/motivations right for once. In the old trilogy, he was obsessed with Mary Jane, it's "all about the girl". Now in the new trilogy they swap the girl obsession with a parental one. All about the parents. Ughh. The focus should be about Peter trying to live a relatively normal life as Peter Parker while doing the right thing and helping people as Spider-Man. These extra motivations only muddy things and make the superheroics and do-gooding seem secondary (which they shouldn't be).
  • Back to the origin. Since the parents are such a focus, they may have a part to play in the origin. If they turn out to be scientists and somehow made it possible for their son to get spider-powers, for instance, we'd have our new Spidey film ripping off Ang Lee's Hulk. Also, back to Pete's motivations, if they bring the parental focus into the origin enough, then what happens to Uncle Ben? Will he even die? Will it matter as much as it should? What I'm saying is, we don't need to see Spidey's origin again, but if they have to do it, they'd better get it right.
  • Finally, the whole style of the movie seems a little off. Peter looks like he's made to appeal to Twilight fans. The spider even bites him on the neck. I haven't watched every single preview or trailer yet, but has any one of them shown Spidey in costume in daylight yet? From what I've seen, they may be making him into a nocturnal hero, which just isn't right. He's not Batman (who, oddly enough, will come out in the daylight in his new movie this summer).

I personally think that the latest TDKR trailer is better than any of the The Amazing Spiderman trailers. I'll admit that the latest TDKR trailer had to grow on me, but once it did, I was hooked. I watched it repeatedly on my Zune HD about twenty something times.

Initially, I didn't like the new suit at all. I thought that it looked like plastic, but I've gotten use to it and like the fact that it looks more tactile, and I like the fact that the web-shooters glow when used. What I really, really like is the build of the new Spidey; he has a slim body type, which is more in-line with the idea that Spidey is quick and agile. While it wasn't bothersome, Tobey didn't have the right bodey type.

Why is it releasing so close to TDKR? It's gonna cannibalize each other's ticket sales, with Spidey getting the short end of it.

A person can see more than one film. It's not an "either, or" situation.

I don't go to the movies that often and I don't think I'm the only one. I would have considered Spiderman if it was released another month (and if the reviews are good)

I'm kind of hoping it bombs at the box office so Sony will stop pursuing it and eventually surrender the rights. I'd like to see Marvel do their own Spidey flick.

I don't mean to seem rude, but I don't see why you would choose not to see a film simply because another film you like is released around the same time. That's pretty stupid. You could see each of them when they're released, or see them both on the same day. I don't understand the reasoning of people like you. Better yet, you could see TDKR, and then sneak into the theater showing TAS.

I only go for movies that I feel it needs to be seen on the big screen so maybe that's irrelevant (I don't find TAS to be this type of movie so far). Still, some people can't go for various reasons: they live far from the city/theatre; they can't afford it, etc... but the big obstacle is the huge buzz surrounding the upcoming release of TDKR could steal some of the attention.

I reject it's existence. There was nothing wrong with the trilogy, this is just an obvious cash-in.

SONY wants to keep the rights to the character. In order to do that, after they've released a Spiderman film, they have to release another one within a certain period of time (which I'm not familiar with).

I will be seeing this in 3D, the web slinging scenes had some real depth as if I was there.

Also, I'm a geek. I like Geeky superhero movies. I'll be seeing this regardless.

Too many remakes...first it was the "Hulk", now "Spiderman", later "Total recall"....creativity must be lacking these days. I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Ghost Busters thou...with todays tech, a remake of that flick would be awesome.

Hard to get excited over this one. It still feels like more of a pilot episode for a tv series than a full-fledged summer blockbuster.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but does it seem like there's been little-to-no-buzz for this movie? It opens in less than a month, but I've hardly seen any real promotional campaigns for this movie, except for the occasional commercial for a fast food tie-in...and I can't even remember for what chain it was for.

To each their own. I'm not as pumped as I was for Avengers and as I am for TDKR, but I'm as pumped as I was and still am for Prometheus, which turned out to be much better than I expected.

Was personally not a fan of the original trilogy by Raimi, but I like the character, so I'm quite happy they are taking a different direction this time around, with a much better cast and overall tone.

You could catch a matinee viewing. I'll be seeing it in IMAX 3D during the matinee hours, for $13.00.

Looked bad from the start. The more I see of it, the worse it looks.

Total pass on this one. Not even going to rent it.
