Now the word Dinosaur is what we use to refer to those big creatures that are no more, as much as we know (the fact is we only know about 4 percent of the ocean I think). Well if you have ever read the bible, it has the word "dragon," which obviously is not just some simple creature, and there is more reason than not to think this is what they called dinosaurs... So, if dinosaurs died "millions of years ago..." then how come the authors know who these things are? I mean maybe they found bones, but in this verse:

their wine is the poison of dragons,

and the cruel venom of asps

Isnt that peculiar? This is only the beggining, then you can contrast this with medieval myths about dragons. To be honest, I dont think those were myths, they had to have a source for what they thought, no musician ever just comes with a song right off their heads out of nothing. They have to have some form of inspiration. I am not sayying they had inspiration exactly, I am sayying they even observed them. I am not trying a religious debate, nor am I trying to totally refute evolution, I guess I have this question. How did they know? What I am sayying is that dragons ARE the same as dinosaurs. Not to mention that dragons have been on pottery. Then, we got the whole lock ness thingy, so if they all died millions of years ago, why does one still exist, they even have photographs of him, and it looks like a dinosaur. Now, I remember thinking that they were just seeing things, but when there is photos of the creatures head that is shaped like a bracheosauraus. Its hard to deny.

Yes, it had to be dinosaurs and not elephants, alligators, rhinos, komodo dragons (which actually do have venom in their spit), crocodiles, or sharks. Dinosaurs is the only reasonable translation.

Actually it is pretty easy to deny considering that there is absolutely no empirical evidence that supports a dino-human co-existence.

Mhhh... when you say "the authors" you are saying implicitly that there are several gods, or several people who inspired divine word. Even this topic name is wrong...

The Bible was handwritten by several people. I'm sure that's what he means.

The point about the loch ness, is I think it is a dinosaur in the sea, see the thing is we only know about 4 percent of the waters, so what I think is there are a lot of them down there. Even if you think they all died millions of years ago, these ones probably would of survived.

Or, maybe The Bible actually was referring to dragons (in the way we think of them) and is just wrong. :o Honestly, there's no reason to consider your explanation over that. Still, though, I would say Theo's post here is one of the best...

The fact that dragons are never mentioned again hints that that's an unlikely interpretation. If dragons were real (or if they thought they were real) then I think they would have gotten a bit more attention. :P

Oh and not to be technical but those are Plesiosaurs not Dinosaurs. Sorry I just love Dinosaurs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plesiosaur Oh and there were hundreds of different species of dinosaurs. Are you saying they all existed with man? What about the animals that came before dinosaurs?

Nor would it explain why various creatures are found at speicific dates of strata while other are not and are only found after specific dates.

The King James Version is just a downright terrible translation when compared to modern translations, and this is a good example why. The translators had no idea what some Hebrew words meant, so they just went to town putting in mythical creatures left and right - dragons, unicorns, satyrs, you name it.

The verse you're referring to from the KJV is the following:

"Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps." (Deuteronomy 32:33, KJV)

The translation from the New International Version (or, really, any modern translation) gives us the facts:

"Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras." (Deuteronomy 32:33, NIV)

The etymology of the word "dragon" gives us the facts about the mythical creatures: it is derived from the Greek word drakon, which means... dinosaur? Dragon? No - serpent. Dragons derive from mythology surrounding the terrible serpents, not from dinosaurs. That's really all there is to it.

Unless you can prove that the writers were 'inspired' by God, the writers wrote it, not God.

Please show me "proof" of the loch ness monster. Even the photographer who took the really old silhouette photo eventually admitted that he faked the shot. All signs point to the monster being a hoax and then a subsequent tourist lure. Could be true, but there's a vast ocean of evidence to counter any claim of such a creature existing in the present day... especially in that loch.

As for the dragon bit, the Bible, Koran, Bhagadva Gita, etc all mention quite a few things that defy modern day concepts of reality. Dragons, talking serpents, pillars of fire, Sun setting in a mud spring, miracles galore, resurrections... the list goes on. Is it really so hard to believe that humans have been running across fossilized dinosaurs for hundreds of thousands of years or more, and then let their imaginations run wild with their findings?
