I doubt they could have gotten past the US air force.

Storm_Marine

Loki could have used his staff to brainwash everyone.

Doesn't he have to be close to the person?

Sure, but he already had Hawkeye. If he got a hold of the world leaders after the Avengers, it would be game over.

Because it was a live action movie, rather than a comic book or cartoon. People might be put off it they took their kids to watch a movie where there's as much damage as there is in those.

In other words he never stood a chance either way? Part of me wants a alternate ending where Loki's army gets blown apart by F15s and F22s while Loki himself shakes his fist at the sky.

Wow I never knew there were so many comic book nerds. Nothing against nerds, I'm my own type of nerd but damn, the movie was mediocre beyond belief and look at these ratings...

6.5

Fun summer action flick.

Mediocre film in the grand scheme of things.

6.5/10. It was an above average movie, but nothing amazing. The villainous plot was a bit dissappointing, the cliche jokes got old, and characters such as Thor and most of all CPT America were flat. Still Iron Man, Hulk, etc were good and having all the heroes together on screen was obviously the most awesome part. I feel like the 2nd one will be better with Thanos as a villain. Ultimately, though this film was designed to have mass appeal and rake in big bucks.

Everything I expected and wanted in a blockbuster summer movie.

Great special effects. Funny dialogue. Big action set peices. Just fun overall.

Not sure what the haters were expecting. Apparently Citizen Kane.

I got exactly what I was expecting. I never anticipated it to be anything incredible.

Its ok because there's a vast library of different movies out there for a variety of different people. I personally get what he's saying though, it really wasn't any different than your standard average to above average summer blockbuster film; aside from the fact that it was a crossover. I'd rank it above Thor, Iron Man 2 and Captain America, but below Iron Man in terms of individual movies. Never saw the Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]8.5/10 Excellent action movie with humor added. Not sure why everyone picks on the story.....most movies don't actually have a deep story and a superhero movie is always going to be good vs bad. If they expect more.....then I don't know what to tell them. It's not the plot that's important but the journey through the movie. And it delivered.Blue-Sky

Because some people don't see the movie for what it really is, a payoff.

When Marvel announced that there were working towards an Avengers movie, a lot of us made an investment into these characters and their individual movies. Avengers was the payoff for that investment. I think most of the people who are complaining about the story didn't make the initual investment.

I always stare at your sig because that is one of the funniest moments in the show, imo. And your text fits it perfectly. And the movie was almost perfect for me. Easily best comic movie.

I just couldn't help but feel that it was just like every other super hero action movie out there. Yes, it's good fun to watch, and there's some cheap humor in it, but overall it gave me the same vibe the first Transformers movie did.

BossPerson

It only has a 69 on Metacritic, which averages out various critics' accumulated scores. Not that a 69 is bad, in fact it is considerably above average compared to what many movies score on there, but it doesn't really put it in the upper eschelon of movies, an area that many are ready to place it in.

Really though alot of the praise depends on where you look. It's not surprising that it is receiving high praise on the internet, particularly on a gaming forum. It also isn't surprising that it is so popular among teenagers. It did a very solid job of playing to these audiences.

Well your sentence made no sense. Look up the meaning of "vast majority". The context you used it in is wrong. (grammar police alert)

I'm aware, I wrote the sentence originally intending to head in another direction. It has since been edited accordingly.

I loved the movie to death. While there are a lot of things that could have been done differently such as sending in the air force or the army, the movie just would not have been as fun to watch. Something else is this movie really caters IMO to comic book nerds and people who just love superheros and watching them do the things they did, and not necceceraly for the awesomely deep and immersive story. The story is there, but it's nothing deep or special. It's the superheros and their heroics that people like me love to see. I won't give out much as it's a big spoiler for those that haven't seen it, but the Hulk did something that just was beyond funny and awesome at the same time. Things like that are what I love about movies like the Avengers.

I don't go into comic book movies looking for ****ing Shakespearean caliber writer and execution or the next big oscar movie. Some of the ratings some of you give are moronic (too low). It was as far as I am concerned the perfect mindless movie. For what it was meant to be 9.5/10.

Great movie. Also great to show just how **** the other superhero movies were. Xmen 1-3, Fantasic Four, Ghost rider?!, and some of the spiderman movies. Also finally a Hulk that is decent.

Universally regarded? It has a lower Metacritic than Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Iron Man, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Hellboy, Hellboy II, Superman, Superman II, and Superman Returns.

And why should I care about Metacritic's score? I do agree that people have a right to their opinion. It is a free country, or it's supposed to be anyway, but I could care less about what Metacritic thinks.

As a Captain America fan, I was hoping for a bit more "WOW" moments from him. The fact that his fight scenes pale in comparison to Blackwidow's and Hawkeye's (who both happen to be normal human beings) certainly doesn't help anything either. He certainly wasn't bad, but I was just expecting something a little more impressive from him. I do like how his battle strategy skills came into play a few times, though.

The fact that Superman Returns got a higher score than The Avengers speaks for itself. :P
