The best Metal album??

- Metallica is indeed dull, lifeless Thrash...everything after The Black Album that is

- Opeth does not suck, they're are not "pure" Death Metal, they are DM with elemenths of prog. rock, blue, folk, and jazz

- Dream Theater (although not really my cup of tea) are over rated imo, but still very talented musicians

- Slayer does rule, but not as much as Kreator

- finally we agree on something; Metalcore should not be mentioned in this thread, or any other conversation regarding metal for that matter

- Melodic Death Metal is awesome. Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, Wintersun...so many great bands

- i agree some progresive metal is bad, but there is a hell of allot of good progressive metal bands to.

I'm sure I'm missing something. As someone stated earlier, Opeth is trash...they try and impress you with very long and meaningless songs. Metalcore is emo garbage and should not be mentioned when speaking of metal.

Let me clear up some metal myths for you all:

• Metallica is dull, lifeless thrash. Nothing of quality.
• Opeth sucks. Not death metal. Formless, pretentious wankery.
• Dream Theater sucks. Only metal in aesthetic.
• Slayer sucks, actually.
• Metalcore shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread.
• Melodic death metal is bland tripe.
• 100% of 'progressive metal' is absolutely terrible.

I left Metallica off because they are a bunch of sell-outs and because after kicking Dave Mustaine out they used his music on Kill Em' All. I could definitely agree with these. Although some days I like Obscura more.

Ensiferum's s/t and Kreator - Pleasure to Kill are among the best for me also. But deciding the best is just not possible with so many subgenres.

Anyways, metalcore is a long over-used term and the bands that make it up are usually given too much hate. On that note, there is some metalcore (and "deathcore") worth listening to, though some people are too ignorant to even try.

My favorites are rather all over the board, but I can say the best metal album, influentially, is obviously Paranoid.
