Top metal albums, in order (fact):

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

Massacra - Final Holocaust

Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity

-Keel-_basic

Wow, and I thought I was alone. Mine is definitely Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.

Edit: Wait, and more people are listing my favorite albums? Is this bizzaro Gamespot?

OMG SOMEONE SAID CYNIC..../thread

Anyways, metalcore is a long over-used term and the bands that make it up are usually given too much hate. On that note, there is some metalcore (and "deathcore") worth listening to, though some people are too ignorant to even try.

My favorites are rather all over the board, but I can say the best metal album, influentially, is obviously Paranoid.

name one Metalcore, and Dethcore band that is worth listening to.

some of that was o.k i guess, Converge, Botch, All Shall Perish, and Through the Eyes of the Dead, are all not bad i guess, but when you compare them to the other great metal bands out there, they get annihilated 20 times over

Let me clear up some metal myths for you all:

  • Metallica is dull, lifeless thrash. Influential to a point, but that speaks nothing of quality.
  • Opeth sucks. Not death metal. Formless, pretentious wankery.
  • Dream Theater sucks. Only metal in aesthetic.
  • Slayer rules, actually.
  • Metalcore shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread.
  • Melodic death metal is bland tripe.
  • 99% of 'progressive metal' is absolutely terrible.

That's all for now. I'll shoot more fallacies down as I see them.

-Keel-_basic

Ignorance consumes you, man. Opeth and Dream Theater are some of the most influential bands in their genre. Also, I would argue that progressive music is some of the most creative music out there, if not the most creative. stuff like "the human equation" by ayreon, "2112" by rush, "the dark side of the moon" by pink floyd, "brain salad surgery" by emerson, lake, and palmer, "blackwater park" by opeth, and others, are all some of the greatest albums of all-time in any genre of music. those are albums that need the freedom and variety that progressive music is capable of to be able to create such an incredible sound throughout the album. i absolutely love progressive rock/metal, and i always find new elements of the song/album long after the first listen. the other thing about progressive music that i love is that you can't create true progressive music by simply copying another artist. progressive music is achieved through a variety of different styles and influences, and that's why many of the genre's quality artists are truly something to behold.

Believe me when I say you don't give Converge enough credit. They aren't just some band to spin and be awed. They grow on you.
