[QUOTE="BenedictArnold7"] Exactly. People who fear monger with this crap make it sound like the FBI is listening in on everything. The government doesn't remotely consider or care about the average person's personal life. They are not going to be listening in to conversations of people who are nobody's.

Tell that to the kid who made an online joke in the game League of Legends and is now going to federal prison.
Think before you post.
It wasn't on LoL it was on Facebook (speaking about League Of Legends).. he got released anyway someone posted a 500k bail
If someone makes a bad joke or if some old suit in the gov't mis-understands something when secretly spying on someone, at least there is a chance someone will post their half a mil bail, LOL.
/sarcasm Yeah, the gov sure shows itself to be trustworthy.
Maybe I would be more trustworthy if our gov. wasn't constantly blundering everything, covering themselves up, and wrecking innocent lives in the process.

The kid made a joke about going to a school and shooting the kids, something along the lines of that.. how he got traced you would usually think its the Government..
Except that in this case it wasn't even The Government who tracked this kid down it was some lady.. from CANADA who stumbled onto his FB and saw the conversation, she then went on to somehow trace this kids location and she found that there was a nearby schoolclose to where he lived and she snitched to the cops - the kid spent five months in jail (Could have spent 8 if found guilty), he only got released like 2 weeks ago
What's sad.. Is the people have the power to stop this.. but nobody will speak up... Sure, this may not do much now.. but if we keep sitting here going, who cares? The FBI/NSA/Government ect.. Will go, Hey, people don't care.. let's push this farther... We are encrougaging a cycle. I fear it may spiral out of control very soon if we don't start putting some limits on the government.. I'm not even political.. and usually don't care.. but.. when I see this happning.. I'm not just going to sit here.. Sadly, most people will. If nothing ends up happening.. Then I will be happy.. but if goes for the worse.. Everyone had a chance... I just hope nothing bad ends up coming from this..

[QUOTE="chrisrooR"] Fvck you. That doesn't justify them having the capability to do it. Jakejack
Ha ha ha... because the government is the only organization capable of doing it. I don't like it, I think it can be abused, but no one has come up witha good example of how they've abused the power. To be honest, though I don't like some of the stuff they have done, there are a lot worse people that are doing worse things with your privacy.... and yet people like you are more outraged over the government rather than hackers that literally ruin peoples lives.
The other issue is that the community in general do nothing to out the people that abuse the systems, such as TOR, for malicous purposes such as child pornography. As much as I hate governments using malware to collect data on people, I really don't see any other option if the community sits around with their head up their ass. If people hate it so much then the community and society in general needs to do a better job of outing the people that are harsh abusers of public systems.
Case and point: Eric Eoin Marques, the man believed to be behind Freedom Hosting, was arrested in Ireland Thursday and is currently awaiting extradition to the U.S. on child pornography charges. Kind of hard to argue against the capabilities when people like this are caught... this guy was solely responsible for a LARGE majority of child pornography.
my two cents.
Here is a GREAT example:
1) A kid made a joke followed by lol/jk in a video game and is now facing life in prison
2) The DEA left a teenager locked in a cell for four days with no food or water because they forgot about him. They tracked him with this type of internet spying stuff.
Do you even read the news?
You can do better than that... I gave you someone that profited off of exploited children world wide and you give me 1) An example of a mom who called the police after she saw a threatening post. Maybe it was taken too seriously, but then again, in light of recent events.. they kind of have to unfortunately.
2) "News of the incident came to light when Chong told a San Diego television station he spent nearly a week in the cell without food, water or access to a toilet after an April 21 raid on a house in San Diego.
The DEA, which identified Chong only as "the individual in question," said he and eight others were swept up during a raid of a suspected Ecstasy distribution operation, where agents found guns, ammunition, 18,000 Ecstasy pills and other drugs.
The nine suspects were taken to a DEA area headquarters, where they were fingerprinted, photographed and interviewed, the agency said. After processing, seven were taken to a county detention facility and one was released."
Sounds like this guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time.... again FAIL of an example. Dont hang out with drug dealers...
So please show me a legit example of the US rounding people up because of government survelance. Again, I don't really support it, but at the same time people just seem ok with people using the internet to exploit children, human traffic, terrorism... etc etc. Until I see innocent people being convicted of meaningless crimes and not real criminals like the one I mentioned then I don't think anyone has much of a stance at this point. The only way we can fight back is by creating systems, networks, and online communities that monitor themselves... then there is no need for the government to be involved.

There is no justification for state surveillance over everyone. That would suggest that everybody using the internet is a suspected offender and must be monitored like a suspected offender.Sadly I think saying you want to work for them means they'll scratch you off on the hiring list.cool! now i want to work in the FBI.
