So today at school my teacher said that in the future, humans will have mixed so much that everyone will look the same. Then, because their isn't much genetic variety, it will be like having babies with a cousin or sister. Then the babies will be deformed and wont be able to reproduce and eventually the population will decrease since hardly any humans are being made and then we will become extinct.

Is this true?

If so, that would suck to be in the last generation of humans.

I find it hard to believe that mass inbreeding will be the end of humanity, odds are it will be destroyed in some other way before that even happens, if it ever does(could).

It's true. Hooking up with someone of my own race is just like scoring with my cousin.

No it's not like that. It's that the dominant genes will all overpower the recessive genes until there are none left and then we will all have VERY similar genes. according to my teacher..

That theory doesnt make sense. If all the different races started interbreeding, I would suspect there would be more genetic diversity not less.

Nothing in his post should lead anyone to believe that his teacher believes skin color=same DNA.

Same race = same skin color. And he says "there isn't much genetic variety, it will be like having babies with a cousin or sister." Maybe he's not implying that they'll have the exact same DNA, but he's saying it'll be pretty damn close.

It sounds like far fetched but im sure your teacher knows better than I do.

But it will probably take an extremely long time before that would happen and im sure that the human race would die before it because of other causes, maybe the next ice age or something else.

Nothing you just posted has anything to do with the fact that nothing that OP posted should lead you to believe that his teacher thinks same skin color=same DNA.

Either elaborate on how he could *possibly* be implying anything but that or quit trolling. It's transitive. Everyone will look the same = same race. A = B. Everyone will look the same = little genetic diversity. B = C. Little genetic diversity = little difference in DNA. C=D. Therefore A = D. This is not complicated. The teacher is a moron. Are you saying you disagree?

A population larger than a thousand will maintain and develop good genetic variation. So no, it won't end that way.

EDIT: Also, race doesn't strictly exist, what you refer to as "race" gradually changes in populations with geographical distance (excluding isolation and migration/genocidal conquering).

Your first post was anout skin color and DNA, now you're not even mentioning skin color. Your next post mentioned DNA and race, eventhough there is no genetic basis for race distinction. Now you're making silly accusations of trolling. You seem to be upset and/or confused.

Race is a synonym for skin color. It's arguably a little bit more specific, but it's the same concept. Replace "race" with "skin color" and you'll come to the same conclusion. You're saying DNA has nothing to do with skin color?

Throughout history there have been isolated groups of humans, sometimes consisting of only a few thousand (or even just a few hundred) individuals. And while these groups may be more susceptible to certain genetic diseases, they never lost their ability to reproduce. With a population of nearly seven billion and growing I don't think we have to worry about inbreeding.

Oh lawd.

Some "Hispanics" are now "Caucasians", some "Caucasians" now "East Asian", some "Africans" are now "Hispanics" and alot of Mediterranean dwelling "Caucasians" are now "Hispanic".

Thats even more laughable than the accepted perception of race.

Not gonna happen that way. Gene therapy's going to kill any undesirable DNA that crops up inside a human body by that point.

I phrased myself wrong, my bad. Even if they are synonyms does not mean that they mean the same thing.

Bottom line, the teacher was saying that humans will eventually breed in a manner which leads to little genetic diversity and will result in a human race in which all people look similar. That doesn't mean that the teacher was saying same skin color=same DNA.

Okay. I took it a step far. I assumed (well, still assume, actually) that she heard this theory and made a massive leap of faith that because when it happens to skin color, it happens to everything. Most bodily features (skin color being the major exception) don't converge to an "average."

I always think this is a negative approach.

"undesirable" DNA could be eliminated without thought for its uses. What and who determines what genes are beneficial to the species? Alternative traits could be discarded in favour of the socially desirable trait, leading to specialised populations with little variation in that trait.

Even screening to remove disease causing or disease risk increasing genes, although it seems like a good idea, may have consequences for the population latter on.

Basically, in my opinion, gene selection/screening should only be applied to deadly/crippling diseases - for anything else, it should be left alone.

I presume that if the TC's premise is true and we get deformations in our babies due to interbreeding, then that would classify as a form of "undesirable DNA".

I've never heard of a recessive gene that is needed for humans to survive. Whatever genes we have now is fine since we are obviously currently living.

There would be more genetic diversity. It's when there is less genetic diversity that things start changing. People should look up what happens to species that get separated on islands.

That is probably one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I do doubt though that humans will survive more than another hundred years the way things are going, between war, and the earth getting all of its resources sucked dry.

It sounds like far fetched but im sure your teacher knows better than I do.

I've seen some teachers say some outright stupid things sometimes, and even caught others in contradictions. Heck, one of my friends who is now a K-12 teacher once told me that the Sun doesn't emit light, it sucks in the darkness.

Teachers are just normal people with average jobs. They make mistakes, they misinterpret what they read, and what they say should not be taken as gospel.

That doesn't make any sense. Race mixing (for lack of a better term, Some one please correct me if there is a better way to say it) doesn't lead to inbreeding. It does nothing to reduce genetic diversity. It only increases it.

But yes, humans will die off eventually.
