Im turned away from death metal because I dont like loud obnoxious screaming, or ridiculous growling....I dont like the entire culture of it, the clothes, the thinking...any of it....
oh and im willing to bet the name has extremely little to do with it...
I don't listen to nearly as much anymore (I still do, just a lot less of it), because it gets repetitive. Even the uber-technical stuff like Spawn of Possession, Nile, Necrophagist, etc. So now I only listen to death metal (or grindcore, for that matter) with really strong composition and melody, because most bands do one and not the other.

wow i am a christian too, but where the hell do you get "No death metal because i'm christian" i mean really where in the bible does it say" You can listen to death metal or you go to hell". Your acting like all Death Metal people are saintest, hell i know people in a death metal christian band, and they are pefectly fine. Im in a Tech-metal band, yes different from Death metal. I like some of it, for example i think Opeth is the only great death metal band because they atually have a good lead singer. I hate growling and screaming, i really do. Thats why I can never take bands like Cannibal corpse seriously, well that and the messed up lyrics.

No, I'm more interested in circular reasoning and pointing out how it has no logical consistency. I'd also like to mention that de gustibus non est disputandum. If you learn what that phrase means, you might have a little less of your self-worth tied up in how underground the music you like is.
I actually don't care for the name, I'm one of those few that like it. I'm very picky about the type of growl, so I only choose a few bands. I guess it's just a love or hate kind of thing, I also wonder what people get just because they insult any type of music.

There just hasn't been a death metal band that's br00tal enough for me yet. Maybe when somebody amputates their arm and turns it into a guitar, I'll be interested.
