I agree with what you said about AC/DC 100%. And to me, its not necessarily that Red Hot Chilis Peppers vocalist is mediocre, its just that their lyrics make no f-ing sense.I could pick a lot of bands and artists that are in the charts today or for the past 7 years for that matter and still a lot of artists that were in the charts since the 50s but were still over saturated commercial music, not all music on charts are crap but a lot are crap I say there is a difference between pop music and mainstream music. I say
AC/DC
Queen
Neutral Milk Hotel- don't get me wrong I like them and there rather abstract lyrics but I think they've gotten undeserved praise of being perfect in the underground scene considering I only really like 2 or 3 songs from them.
Red Hot Chili Peppers-some nice guitar and bass riffs in some songs but mediocre vocalist

[QUOTE="thenarutolover"]How can anyone say that Nirvana are overrated? They basically revolutionized rock music. Their influence is to this day.KC_HokieBecause their music is awful. And no they didn't revolutionize rock....the whole grunge thing died out. Do not bother... He is voting for Romney.

Even his references to his past life doesn't make for some significantly powerful message, maybe it might relate to a few but that's all and even then it's very disjointed I think I would of just preferred instrumentals but atleast you know what his saying in Can't stop... or Give it away now, also the fact he has no range.I could pick a lot of bands and artists that are in the charts today or for the past 7 years for that matter and still a lot of artists that were in the charts since the 50s but were still over saturated commercial music, not all music on charts are crap but a lot are crap I say there is a difference between pop music and mainstream music. Radiohead, Coldplay, Dream Theater etc..
And lol Led Zeppelin isn't overrated. They deserve every praise they get.

every death metal, heavy metal, slash, whatever the hell that stuff is.
i remember trying to force myself to listen to any of them.
they all sound like screaming and very loud trash cans.
It's more like noise than music. Reminds me of the Dubstep of the past.
I have no idea why everyone thinks metal is so 'f*cking awesome" either.
I like every genre, EXCEPT metal.
I just can't find even one decent song that is heavy metal, death metal, etc.
Also, AC/DC doesnt really appeal to me either.
If it released last year, ppl wouldve said it sounded generic and even dull in some cases.
But since they're old, all of a sudden, theyre 'great.'
Nirvana definitely. It only became a "mythic band" because the guy died. Most their songs are just plain boring trash
Radiohead - Boooring. Most their songs are a snooze fest
Foo Fighters - Cant stand them.
Muse - Mediocre, but it seems everyone I know like them
The Killers - I like the old Killers but the latest albums have been trash, but somehow it seems everyone likes them now.
Coldplay - Plain generic
Wrong Nirvana is legendary and their music touches the soul deeply. What are your favorite band so I make fun of them?Nirvana definitely. It only became a "mythic band" because the guy died. Most their songs are just plain boring trash

Muse used to be here but it's just sad now.freek666
how is tool overrated? they barely even get media coverage. I mean I understand alot of people listed to them but just because the majority likes it doesnt mean its overrated. And for people that said nirvana. Go listen to the Bleach album.

i think back in the day, since they were so different, that had a stigma put on them.
still follows them today.
or something like that.
regardless, awesome band.
[QUOTE="Vatusus"]Wrong Nirvana is legendary and their music touches the soul deeply. What are your favorite band so I make fun of them? LOL this is gold right here. Nirvana doesnt touch the soul deeply, the lyrics are dumb, they are extremely short too and the riffs are extremely basic, the composition of their songs is simple and the fact that cobain was a lousy guitarrists and vocalist didnt help it either. BTW since you like naruto and nirvana, I suppose you have a real good eye for pieces of ****Nirvana definitely. It only became a "mythic band" because the guy died. Q_Q some more
I'm actually surprised because in the recent years I have seen how Nirvana is being thrown off the pedestal it was at. good to see people are realizing they were just overrated crap...its a shame that kids still believe they are amazing and that they are the best grunge band ever when their whole experience of grunge comes down to 4 nirvana songs. Plus nirvana was responsible for a whole bottleneck in the 90s music.[QUOTE="lightleggy"][QUOTE="JoeJoeLaker"]
I agree with Nirvana.
TheFatPerson
Good. I'll sure as hell take Nirvana over gay butt-rock and half-assed love ballads from the 80s any day of the week. I love Nirvana. I love what they did to the music scene. Things took a turn for the better.
Anyway, I agree with you on all the bands you listed. Sure, they are all good bands, but do they deserve to be on such high of pedestals? Why?
Some more to add to the list:
-Coldplay
-U2
-Animal Collective
-Lady Gaga
-Katy Perry
-Adele
-Arcade Fire

The emergence of Nirvana actually changed the face of music in the early 90s - if it wasn't for them we'd still be listening to the likes of Warren. Would the Smashing Pupmkins be where they were if Nirvana hadn't opened the door for them? Probably not.
Nirvana made a huge bottleneck in music in that it "killed" metal but instead of opening way for a bunge of grunge bands to come out, it only allowed itself to do so. So while in the 80s we had a bunch of different metal bands, which helped with variety, in the 90s we got only around 3 grunge bands and it was the only thing sounding on the radio. it was a bottleneck. The only thing Nirvana "killed" was soulless cock rock and guitar wankery. If you think they killed metal then you simply weren't paying attention to metal of that period.
I really only listen to bands that I like, so I am not particularly aware of any I would deem over rated, but I am not a fan of the general direction of music these days. Obviously the pop on the radio is largely forgettable and crappy, but the indy movement seems to be fixated with more acoustic and orchestral stuff. I miss old school Moudest Mouse sort of bands that could just grab an electrice and a bass guitar and make brilliant music instead of needing synth, violin, and mandolin to do anything.

I agree it's nothing special. Creep probably isn't even in my favorite 50 Radiohead songs. There's a reason they rarely play it at concerts; most big Radiohead fans don't really care to hear it.
