There are two types of the "n" word that you need to be aware about though.

If it ends in "a" it's somewhat okay but if it ends in "er" it's a racial slur.

Most people oblivious to the word don't even know this, that is why they get in trouble.

I've had some white friend use n***a and I didn't care because I knew they didn't mean any racial harm and they understood the meaning of it.

However, people that use the "er" version have no right to use it because they simply don't understand.

I hate that word, no matter who uses it...

I know black people that dont like when other black people say the word..its just how you react to it i guess so i just dont say it lol.

Why is there a need to alter a racial slur into something that is ok to say?

I say that anybody can say it, but its really lame if you weren't raised around people who do say it, and you say it.

I use the N word everyday, I have no interest in stopping either.

EDIT: to elaborate, I'm saying that you should'nt just go and start saying the N word, just because you can, because to me that would seem that you are trying to be someone who you aren't.

I say the N word, my parents say it (with discretion) my brother says it, my black friends say it.

I say it because all of those influences made me into who I am today.

I think it's stupid. It's like a Jewish person saying "Hail Hitler an Asian person calling other people goons or chinks, or a German person calling people a Jerry or a kraut.

I use it all the time, but never with the intention of insulting anyone; it's for joking around.

well it no longer means what it originally meant. I personally dont use it but hear it come out of Black and Hispanic mouths everyday. One of my white russian gfs use it often too. Its in many peoples daily vocabulary here in NYC. Fuhgeddabouditt

It's fine..It's a terrible outlook, and it makes you look like a hypocrite. Oh, and I'm not white ;)

A word I avoid using due to sensitivity issues of other people. The double standard the word has developed is undoubtedly absurd, but not really bothersome.

I stop taking TC serious when he said reverse racism. Racism is racism. There is no such thing as "reverse" racism.

If when blacks are racist to white it's reverse racism, and when whites are racist to anyone it's racism then that would mean that the very definition of racism is "a [white]belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others." and reverse racism would be the opposite.

I'm with Mgamer it will take a long time for it to be appropriate for white people to use that word, Thats just the way it is .Its not fair , it doesn't make sense but thats the way it is.

I'm with Mgamer it will take a long time for it to be appropriate for white people to use that word, Thats just the way it is .Its not fair , it doesn't make sense but thats the way it is.

You don't seem like you're from the hood though(I hope I cause no offense)... I'm not trying to be all ghetto but MgamerBD has the general "hood" mentality about the subject. I've seen white people get shot(and killed) over saying it.

Many millions of people is not the same as my circle of friends and it would depend on the context, just as all words should. The N word is not inherently evil. It's context that matters. If my friend called me an idiot in a joking matter then that is fine. It was in the context of a joke. In a non joking manner it is not fine. Also I would not flip my **** if someone said that to me. Anyone who flips their **** over words should probably check an anger counciling class.

Also the black community does not get to determine who gets the use of the word unless they can show ownership of said word. I understand why people would not want X person to say it but I disagree with censorship in any form.

Again, context is important. You are justified in getting upset of someone saying the N word in a manner to be hurtful. If your friend is joking and uses it and is obviously using it in the context of a joke, you are overreacting. But that is my personal opinion.

Also society finds it okay for black people to use the word honkie and cracker. Anyone should be able to use any word. Speech should not be censored.

Dude is a pretty common word in certain areas of the US (California for instance). Especially during the 80's and 90's.
