It didn't specifically say that but it does say: The protesters, angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad, were firing gunshots and rocket propelled grenades.

I'm gonna assume it wasn't an angry mob of atheists.

lol... Anyways a good portion of their population really needs to evolve past these fanatical stone-aged views. I really 'enjoyed' some of the stuff being said in Egypt as well...nice murals of them telling us to enjoy our 'black day' of 9/11. Nice.

We just helped free these people from Gaddafi not one year ago, see what it gets you? All over a ****ing movie they don't like. Even this some idiot on this leftist forum will defend, I know it already.

When do we bring our troops home and leave this part of the world to destroy itself? Tired of it all.

This is a terrible event but I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to say here. You expect 5.7 million people who recently had a civil war to all be appreciative of the U.S.A. and never do anything bad to you ever?

The problem with westerners is that we assume how other cultures are and expect them to be grateful for bringing them our "superior" culture. T and salvation. The same arrogant process that happened during colonisation of the world by european cultures. People are different, cultures are different, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and not what all western governments have done elsewhere was done with good intentions, grudges are kept through history and are not easily forgotten. The mentality that we are helping or saving them from themselves has to stop. We are not their saviors, we are not their superiors, we are different sure but we can't expect everyone to accept our way.

You can't equate my criticising the western side with agreeing with the methods islamists use, that's a logical fallacy if I've seen any. If islamists were in the US since the 1950s manipulating US governments, arming dictators, destroying democracies, etc for profits I would completely understand why americans would be angry and will want to blow up and destroy as many islamists as they see. Would I agree with their methods? well no but that in no way excuses the others actions.

so i have a question.. showing images of mohammed is banned in islam, no? so chances are none of the protestors have ever seen an image, because to make such and image is a grave offense.. so how do they know the images others have made that they're getting their panties in a bunch about are actually images of mohammed? maybe they look much more like his cousin, roger...

But we ARE NOT talking about that.. We are talking about the violence caused by a video that criticized Islam.. The anger based upon those things are well justified but they are not what caused this specific event.. If you look at the violence with events with this, you never seen those reasons brought up.. Its specifically the supposed attack against Islam..

This seems like more propaganda to assist in stabilizing the blind patriotism. Religion seems to be the main cause of humanitys descent. One side gets mad because their beliefs are being disrespected, and the other side gets mad because of the repercussions of disrespecting the other sides belief. I just know someone/s is at the top orchestrating this whole fiasco, and people eat it up every time, smh.

Just so it is clear, eastern Libya is generally much more pious than the rest of the country. Even during Gaddafi's rule, a very disproportionate number of Libyan foreign fighters in Iraq came from a single eastern city. The fact that violence didn't break out in Tripoli alone should give you a good idea as to the east/west divide of the country. In many respects, Benghazi and Tripoli have historically been dueling capitals, and Gaddafi helped aggravate such rivalry and divide (particularly since eastern Libya had been a bastion of support for former King Idris).

People expect too much from cultures that are decades behind on every level. Their violent behaviour is a simple fact of life and this will never change untill their life circumstances change for the better. The man who made the film, should and could have known better.

I don't think this is an isolated incident. The hatred for the west is spread throughout the ME so that makes things like this more common. I wouldn't expect the same thing happening in a region where tensions are not escalated already. Sure the specific trigger for this was the video but that in no way makes it the root of the problem.

Speaking out against bigotry is not apologizing. It amazes me that so people think it is.

If someone says "Black people are lazy", they have the constitutional freedom to do so. But they will be called a racist.

If someone says "Women should never leave the house and only be concerned about domestic things" that person is entitled to say that, but they wiill be called a sexist.

If someone creates a video that defames another religion, impying it degenerate to their own, that person is well entitled. But they will be labeled a bigot.

That being said, every news report I've seen states the Embassy's tweet predated any violence.

I disagree with you on the bolded part, freedom of speech should be protected and we should not give in to the whims of terrorists.

But I do agree with the first part, it takes time for behavior and culture to change. I don't think what they did was ok just because they didn't know any better but people need to understand the dangers of working and living over there

[QUOTE="kuraimen"] You can't equate my criticising the western side with agreeing with the methods islamists use, that's a logical fallacy if I've seen any. If islamists were in the US since the 1950s manipulating US governments, arming dictators, destroying democracies, etc for profits I would completely understand why americans would be angry and will want to blow up and destroy as many islamists as they see. Would I agree with their methods? well no but that in no way excuses the others actions.kuraimen

I don't think this is an isolated incident. The hatred for the west is spread throughout the ME so that makes things like this more common. I wouldn't expect the same thing happening in a region where tensions are not escalated already. Sure the specific trigger for this was the video but that in no way makes it the root of the problem.

Just admit you were wrong.....

You should keep up with current events then. Hard to do that in your country?

well, I think its a dumb, pointless waste of money to make movies for the sole purpose of insulting people, so they have a right to be angry.

at the same time, its arguably dumber to attack an embassy , the film wasn't made by the US government, and it just makes the problem worse. protest is fine, but attacking?

although I do find it odd that the countries which produce some of the worst Anti Jewish cartoons are angry over this,

Could you please post the exact apology? I've read and re-read the statement several times, I can't seem to find it.

lol no, its easier then the U.S. in this country. I just find it rather surprising that the U.S. would apologise, it doesn't seem to be the norm.

There isn't an apology in it. The only thing they did was condemn the video as being bigoted. Of course you'll get lesser parrots sitting here reiterated the lies of the Romney camp though.

[QUOTE="kuraimen"] The problem with westerners is that we assume how other cultures are and expect them to be grateful for bringing them our "superior" culture. We are not their saviors, we are not their superiors, we are different sure but we can't expect everyone to accept our way.kuraimen

.......... Kuraimen with your logic we could defend the person that guns you to death based around the ground that you were criticizing the Western civilization.. And that more along the lines is the exact same fvcking thing your doing here for the Middle East.. If there is any apologism in this board for Islamic extremists, its fvcking this right here..

We as westerners should also understand that a chimpanzee doesn't understand irony. It doesn't matter if you try to teach them english literature the chimpanzee will never understand irony. Likewise, the people responsible for these attacks will never understand the irony of attacking and killing people in the name of their religion over an amateur video which suggests said religion is violent.

If anything it shows how vastly superior we in the west are compared to these inbred, barbaric, archaic, savages. I'm glad they're as stupid as they are. I enjoy my cheap my gasoline while your dictator reaps all the spoils and gives you people handouts. Go back to sitting around clutching the wreckage letting flys crawl all over your face smoking yoru hookas complaining about how hard your life is while living on western tax payer dollars.

Good thing we got the peaceful nation the USA reporting, the peaceful home of the brave that bombed a million Iraqis. Oh wait, that doesn't matter since they're all fundamentalists, right.
