What are some things that movies get wrong every time?

The public restroom disappearance: If the door is shut in a public restroom stall, then someone is obviously in there :P. And never have all the stall doors been shut.
Clothed Zombies: I just know that, if the zombie apocolips came, the bulk of zombies would be entirely naked, or at least down to underwear.

One phone-call: You don't get one phone call when you're arrested, ever.

The interior of a submarine. In movies like Crimson Tide, it's huge. You could have a block party in there. In real life, a submarine doesn't even have enough room inside of it for two guys to stand up in the same room.

i think movies get the lighting wrong all the time.. like in an office or a hospital or whatever... it's always very dimm with only lights on the people's faces.. that's never how it is irl.. should just be lots of cheap florescent lights..

VisigothSaxon

Because Shenandoah, The Grapes of Wrath, Birth of a Nation, First Blood, Cabaret, Dr. Strangelove, El Norte, The Great Dictator, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and everything Bertolt Brecht wrote weren't political in the slightest, amirite?

Also, wait, what does have to do with the thread?

Lightning.

They always make lighting and thunder occur at the same time for dramatic effect. Are they suggesting sound travels as fast as light, or that light travels as slow as sound.

A bit of a pet peeve for me.

I find that most modern movies have less politics in them than some older books.

Well to be fair most of the older books people still read today are books that have more politics etc in them. Most old books are just like any book or movie written today. For purpose of entertainment. Just that most people don't read those books anymore.

There are lots of little details relating to weapons and tactics that movies get wrong. None of these really bother me, unless I don't like the movie in general (The Hurt Locker), in which case it's icing on the cake:

 • Grenades do not produce huge, fireball explosions.
 • M-16s and other assault rifles do not shoot out huge, star-shaped jets of flame when they fire.
 • Real soldiers don't always fire weapons on automatic, in fact they use semi-auto much more often.
 • There are no total rookies in elite units; there are no privates either. Occasionally in some action movie, you'll have an uber-elite Special Forces unit, and there's the "new guy" who's so green he can barely tie his boot laces. To even be in special operations, you usually need a couple years of service.
 • Real soldiers are not James Bond. They cannot fly planes, fly helicopters, rig explosives, operate complex commo gear, and use every ex-Pact weapon. You have pilots, communication specialists, engineers, infantrymen and so on.
 • People point guns at each other a lot in movies, point guns at friendlies, I mean. That's fine if it's gangsters or other civilian who really haven't been trained with weapons, but real soldiers don't do that.
 • You don't turn around and walk backwards when clearing a room, nor do you suddenly pivot 180 degrees to point your gun in the other direction because it looks cool.
 • You don't stand in front of windows after you've cleared the room.
 • Movies and videogames almost often have Obligatory Female Radio Voice. Like, if there's a person who talks over the radio a lot and tells you where to go and what to do, it's a chick. This is rarely the case.

I thought of some more:

 • Underpenetration by bullets. If you're being shot at by a rifle, a car door is not a reliable piece of cover. It's better than nothing, but if someone's firing at the door with an assault rifle, it's quite likely some of the rounds will get through.
 • Overprenetration by RPGs. I am unimpressed with RPGs. I've seen a tank get hit by one, and it didn't do a damn thing. I've also seen a bank vault door that some jokers had used RPGs to try and break into. Note to criminals on this forum: Do not use RPG-7 to break into vank vault; will not work.
 • Houses exploding. All buildings in which evil men reside have permanent gas leaks, because the smallest rocket or grenade fired into them will produce a titanic explosion.

My favorite one is in World War II movies, when they show a German tank they usually have a more modern tank painted gray with the German Iron Cross painted on the side. My two favorite examples is in The Battle of the Bulge the Germans use tanks that are actually American tanks from the 1950s, and in A Bridge Too Far we see a German tank that is actually just a tank from the 1970s with some plywood put on the turret.

You forgot to mention that an automatic rifle will go through a clip in about 30 seconds. In movies, people are firing almost endlessly without reloading.

This needs to be said in response to some of the posts in this thread. Yeah, it is referencing fantasy comics. But most movies aren't that much different in terms of their relative realism level.

Dead guys don't breath. Punching sound effect don't supposed to sound like something from a 90's arcade fighting game. People don't stop running to look at the scenery when they are being chased by a mass-murderer. 5 minutes does not suppose to equal 20 minutes. Getting beat half to death without scratching the other guy, yet manage to beat him anyway *Cough* Training Day *Cough*. Guns are useless underwater (I'm not sure if its possible to shoot underwater) A small grenade does not suppose blow up a mansion....

When I was a child my mum put shoes in the washing machine then went out shopping. I was watching TV when the washing machine started up and made this crashing which sounded like heavy footsteps/someone raiding cupboard somewhere in the house. I spent like 2 hours hiding behind a chair.
inb4 coolstory
