Just think before you post, read the post you are about to submit carefully... There have been posts I edited after submitting sometimes. But, I guess I am not the right person to give advice since I never had one before. I wouldn't even joke either, well not on these main boards. Some people might take offense and report even if it was a inside joke. Eh.
Always be in the right place at the right time. Basically, none of your posts get noticed by people who think they can report you, and having those reports reviewed by someone who just doesn't know how to moderate properly.

The number of things some users or mods think of as trolling is absurd.
Yup, they are really baby proofing these forums. All electrical outlets are cemented shut, all corners are sanded to a curve and coated with rubber, and the walls and floors are padded with bubble tape. Oh, and by put giant collars on us to prevent us from strangling each other. :P

:? Did your lvls get dropped or something? With a post count like that, I'd expect you to be at least lvl 45 or higher....
On topic: I don't mind the moderation. It's the consequences of being modded that I don't like. I got moderated earlier for making a short post that had mostly capital letters. I got modded for it and they freakin dropped me an entire lvl. It took nearly forever to reach lvl 40. Now I'm back to mid lvl 39, which is pissing me off....
It'd be because since I resigned as a mod it's been open season on me.....granted it's getting old....
It takes more than just reading the terms of use if you plan to ever try to be funny. You will want to go onto the "Ask the Moderators" board and read a few hundred posts. Then you will see what ppl most commonly get busted for and the slight technicalitys that can work for you or against you.
For example, you cannot say a certain game sucks. However, you can say a certain game sucks if you specify a reason why you believe it sucks.
You will see that many of the ppl that get modded and then contest it or ask about it did something that is subjective (in terms of modding). Most often it seems like it's flaming or trolling. It is a subjective thing, but reading through the posts will give perfect examples so you know what will happen if you are in the same scenario. It's sorta like how in law, there is the written law, and then there is the set of legal precedents.
If you want to avoid getting moderated, don't post. I don't see how some active people never get moderated, it makes me dumbfounded.

I get trolled by so many people who "lol around" with mods in forums, it's ridiculous (not that I bother to report.) They say the same crap to me that I would get modded for saying to another user. As it is, I am consistently more selective but man some people are so touchy.
I've noticed that over the last several years, it's much easier to get moderated now. I don't think that the users are getting that much worse, it seems that the mods are getting more strict about what you can and cannot do.
I think it's just partial common knowledge for the rules such as swearing, flaming etc. and then other things that could ruin the enjoyment of other users, such as spoilers (which I got moderated for recently). It may be strict but its good, cause for example with spoilers I have been annoyed a lot at other forums when you read something about the story you wish you hadn't :P
I rarely am moderated and I make it a point to be fairly controversial, if not offensive and a troll. I'm also of decent humor, so whats all your peoples problems?
I have seen some pretty insane moderations handed out over the last few years, some people will go through your posts with a fine tooth pick to try and catch you out. Its pretty sad to be honest some of the stuff you get modded for nowadays.
It's generally pretty simple. The most legit beefs I've seen have been mods that look at posts individually instead of within the context of the thread.

Word, hell I once got modded for trolling when I said a game had bad framerate.
