[QUOTE="ghoklebutter"][QUOTE="Good-Apollo"][QUOTE="Fried_Shrimp"] No it shouldn't. Your just wrong. The faith that terrorists hold isn't Islam. It has about as much in common with Islam as Satanism does with Christianity.

And the extremists hold the view that the moderates aren't real muslims, your point?

As if extremist Muslims are educated about Islam...>_>

Those Muslims who use violence who achieve their goals probably have more in common with a certain 6th century warlord then the peaceful muslims of today.

..... No, because their Islam doesn't have a historical theological basis. It is a violent perversion of Islam that came about because of the U.S's, England's, France's and USSR's actions in Muslim countries. Although England and France had much more to do with the Arab independence movement which was secular. Israel was also a HUGE catalyst for terrorism against western countries (it happened in other countries, but no-one saw reason to attack western countries before the 90s.)

That is like saying as if Christians are educated about Islam... Some of us are. Some of us Christians have actually researched all religions or philosophies and decided that Christianity is the one we think is the most right. The extremists are indeed educated on Islam, they just use what is best for their cause.

Maybe so, but an in-depth study of the Koran and Sunnah reveals that extremists Muslims such as Osama Bin Laden are terribly misguided. I can say with certainty that moderate Muslims follow the correct version of Islam.

Its called the Koran; the equivalent to the bible. There are also various sects which had different interpretations on some aspects of the Koran, like Christian sects. Extremists aren't part of a sect, they are only bound by Xenophobia and willingness to use weapons against everybody who doesn't do exactly as them (so peaceful muslims are also targets. Like people who wanted peace with Israel.) They don't have an education except by older members who literally brainwash young muslims who have reasons to hate the U.S/etc such as the U.S invading the country. Then there also is the fact that most people think that all muslims who commit violence, do it because of their religion. That is completely retarded; do christians only do violence for their religion? Maybe, just maybe a large part of the people fighting the U.S in middle eastern countries are people who don't want to be pushed around/invaded/personal liberties infringed/ discriminated against/ traditions torn down forcefully/etc.

Actually, you are very wrong in this presumption. Christians and Islamic people have been at war for a long long time. Upon the recent centuries the wars for the 'Holy Land' have stopped at such a pace. Now, you are right in a basic principle, seeing how Israel was a catalyst for terrorism against western countries. Only because America has Israel's back in keeping their land. The saw a reason to attack wester countries the whole time, but it wasn't until globalization came about that they decided to take action upon it. That and the fact that opportunities to easily attack do not come until a country is so relaxed it forgets about you. Extremists have been around forever man. It just so happens that it happened recently.

Bottom line, extremists in every belief system have been around forever. They also like to take control of everything they can. That is human nature.

True story! I know that. I love the Koran. It is a great book of teachings. Actually, I find that most theological writings are generally good. And, I agree, there are so many misguided souls. I'm sorry if you thought I was blaming Islam. It was just in this case that Islam extremists were the context. There are just as many of my Christian extremists that I think are worse nutjobs. So goes life in this human world. Tolerance is the only way, but punishment of those that break is the only way to keep the tolerance.

The crusades were over 500 years ago. And the sturggles between the ottoman empire and Britain/France/Austria/Hungary/Russia were not religious. Struggle against colonialism was more about independence, until the holy land was taken by Israel; first seeds of violence against western countries in name of Islam because the west supported Israel. After a failed arab independence movement, the Islamic extremist got ball rolling and thanks to American training then abandonment of Muslim fighters in Afghanistan, extremists now had a very experienced and supplied military arm. So yes, extremist Islam did not exist for a quite long period of time in most places in the middle east until the 20th Century.

Actually, I partially agree with you. Americans did supply the arms for them. Your are very right in that. But, they have been around for longer than that. They just did not have the resources for such an offensive before. Almost all of the struggles have been religious. There are exceptions to every rule. But, I have taken world history just like many other college goers. I found it interesting how much religion played a huge part. So what I am saying, is they have always been there, it is just until recently that they had the resources to do such crazy acts.

Cool. I know they aren't restricted to religion. That just seems to be the general excuse that is thrown around. That was the only point I was trying to make.

tbh I don't really think about it

-I dont know any victims
-I dont feel threatened by terrorism
-I dont really have nationalistic tendencies, so I dont feel obligated to mourn or observe "9/11 Day"

Its a tragedy, my comments are not intended to lessen 9/11's impact or anything...it just is not really a big deal to me personally.

It's 10 years after the 9/11 incident and more people have died in the wars that followed it than the incident itself. God bless America.

Lol. Americans hurt America many times more than the terrorist ever did by blowing up 2 skyscrapers and killing 3000 people. I mean, the xenophobia, the several trillion dollar wars, the election of Bush, the loss of personal freedom (the Patriot Act,) disregard of human rights (Guantanamo/witch hunt of terrorists,) the lower in budgeting for education/wealthcare/healthcare/infrastructure, garnering even more hate from the rest of the world, neglection of the economy and many more things were far more hurtful to America than 2 skyscrapers and 3000 people. Americans made something which negatively affected 3000 people and 30 000+ of their relations and cost 200bn into something that negatively affected the other 300 000 000 americans and cost several trillions of dollars. And then you are proud of that...

lyeti

I do not agree with the tone and intent of this post. However, there are a number of kernels of truth in what you are saying. Americans would be wise to take a serious account of their own actions and what that means for their own society.

Everyone last one of those people are hopefully burning in Hell for all eternity :)

Snipes_2

They could quite possibly be doodling with 72 virgins for the rest of eternity.
