Why all the hate? :? No nation is perfect. Heck i could easily go make a top ten list of terrible things done by Australia, or Britain, or France or anywhere for that matter. It's the 4th of July however, and a thread intended to celebrate the good things. Would you go to your friend's birthday party and start ranting about what a terrible person he was? Heck no. Because there's a time and a place and that aint it.
Every country has faults, but America is still ignorant. Celebrate your 4th of July, go on, get drunk and high and party. Watch some MTV and drive your SUV.
I hate Americans.
Yeah, we're the ignorant ones...
Spend a good amount of time here before you make a stupid post like that.

I'm not even American. :? You know very well that what i said was true. There's no need to enter threads celebrating the 4th of July only to hate on america, when you can do that the other 364 days a year.

I sure as heck dont see it your way. I avoid generalising entire nations with negative stereotypes. As do most people.
America isnt the only nation to land on the moonwizard90
But it was the first. Which is an achievement. Why are you trying to rain on a parade? I dont get it. Like i said, if it was your buddy's birthday and his parents talked about him getting an A on his report card that day, would you explain to him that he's not the only one and that aint worth jack? Of course not. It's his birthday. It's a celebration.
Why all the hate?

So far, only 12 human beings have set foot on the moon. And they've all been from the United States.

Yes... But America doesn't have feelings.
I hate many Americans... But, I can't generalize an entire nation, nobody really has the right to do that.
And yes, today is the day that we gained independance and all that... But, look at what it's turned into... People running around lighting a bunch of loud, annoying fireworks at two in the morning and eating a bunch of food... We aren't really paying respects for the founders of this nation anymore, we just wanna party, really.

How can you not see the irony? He is calling us ignorant while he is generalizing American's by saying we watch mtv, and drive SUV's, blah blah. He obviously doesn't know us personally. It was a stupid post. He hasn't even been here for a good amount of time to make a rational decision on his own.

I'd ignore it man. It's like being at a birthday party and wishing it was your party instead of that other guy's.

it's not that much of an achievement, though. Americans did many greater things then just come up to terms with the rest of the world.

Most people miss the point that it's the freedom to celebrate, that we are actually celebrating.

that's more of a British ingenuity. what I'm surprised not many people have put is the airplane, unless invention (or perfection, rather) of that was taken from the Wrights.
I was really just talking about advances made by america at that time instead of listing them idividually I'll make that more clear :pI think our biggest achievement is as a nation being only 200 some odd years old and being where we are today. In a little over 200 years, we are the only superpower in the world as of now. We are such a diverse nation, from people to places, to cultures and races. Strong military and strong work ethic of it's citizens.
In only 200 years look at where we are. That's a damn good achievement.
[QUOTE="H8sMikeMoore"][QUOTE="rudyroundhead"]Worst achievement:
Paying athletes millions of dollars while teachers, policeman and other professions get peanuts...
qubert27
Whats wrong with athletes making that much money if the industry they work in makes so much?
They don't deserve it, simply.
Who are you to say they don't deserve it?
Mac_Daddy, it's simpy the raining on a parade syndrome. Others celebrate, you're not a part of it, so you feel the need to stop the celebration. I dont know why people do it, and i agree with you that it's very sad.Ninja-Hippo
I agree. I really don't understand the hate. I love all kinds of other nations, european countries in particular. People just piss me off talking **** about my homeland from thousands of miles away on a computer.
Number 7 shouldnt be on that list, in WW1 they came in at the last second with a huge army and took credit for the win while the british and french did the work. And WW2 once again America barely did anything, they dropped 2 nukes on Japan.EVOLV3
lol? You must have missed that whole liberating Europe thing.

Yeah, to an extent I agree...
We have many problems though: Poverty, unemplotment, a group of power hungry elites in office, pollution.
This thread has become lulz... As an American I wouldn't say I'm proud, but, I just don't care... If you love America, I don't care... If you generalize Americans and think we should be wiped off of the face of the Earth, I don't care.

Then why did you even partake in the thread? Just curious.
I see a thread titled "Top ten greatest American achievments...", I was curious as to what the thread creator thought they were... I find a mass flame war and decide to join in. And I didn't say that I don't care about this thread, I just don't care what America lovers or haters have to say about the subject so much.

hey guess what, we're not in a recession.. and a depression? HAH! Secondly, yeah, gas is about 4 bucks here.. but how much is it in europe? (10 bucks btw).

Of course we have some problems. All nations do. It's not nearly as bad as you think. Why would you not be proud to be an American? There has never been a nation at any point where absoluetly NO problems existed. In only about 200 years, we are where we are. That is pretty damn amazing.

Not so much... We have man-made problems really... And that's a part of why I'm not really proud (To be honest, I wouldn't be proud to be British or African or anything...).
