that's all the fun degrees, what's left? engineering? computers? bo-ring..AllicrombieToo bad what you label as "boring" is way more useful to humanity.
Im a bit surprised at architecture because its somewhat math based, but this is not surprising. Generally the easier and more fun a major is is the less useful that major is. Cause if there was a fun easy career that we could take and make lots of money everyone would go for it and the market would be flooded. Diablo-BBecause architecture (as far as I know) the artistic study of constructions (how to make things look stylish and good at a decent cost). Civil engineers are actually the guys who design and make sure that buildings and bridges are capable of holding the expected weights. Now in your opinion, which one seems way more important? Eiffel tower would not look so nice if it suddenly collapsed would it?

I'm mainly interested in English and Business, with Journalism, Political Science and Physics kind of being secondary interests so luckily an English degree and Business degree aren't useless in a world full of things to write and things to make money off of.

ENGINEERING.........that is all
zip0
The problem with engineering is that it's a very rigorous curriculum with a relatively high drop-out rate (including changing majors to something easier). I am not an engineer, but I went to an engineering school. I knew plenty of people who were originally engineering, but then switched their majors to things like business or liberal arts. I've also yet to meet an engineer who did not exhibit a strong interest in it (i.e. building things) or at least a serious mathematical/computer/science background of some sort from a young age. There's a reason they pay well.
[QUOTE="Drakes_Fortune"]I was thinking the same, I know people that have done architecture (in the UK) and now they have great jobs :S Architecture is less technical form of civil engineering basically. Which is why it is sub-optimal.Architecture? How is it useless?

Search top 20 most useless degrees on the internet for the full list Phil is using. I was shocked to find chemistry and mechanical engineering on the list. But it makes sense once you look at the bls' outlook concering those fields. Personally, I'm majoring in sweep kicks through cobra-kai.

Well the people with those degrees can help someone live for eons, but they can't create new life since noone wants to get in bed with them :P.

Well there is some "charm school" up in the northeast specifically for science and math majors at MIT to help them socialize with other human beings; I kid you not. There was a segment of it on the news, and it was quite entertaining to say the least :P.

Many stereotypes feature a certain element of truth.

the point was you, a person commenting in a gaming forum, would fall into pretty much the same stereotype.

Sure, if you want to put me into it go ahead. Doesn't make me incapable of talking about it or pointing it out.

woops, missed that part.
I used to want to major in history. But then I matured and decided to pick a major that will give me a career. Accounting. l4dak47
good choice.
Good thing the degree I'm majoring on is not only one that could get me a nice paying career but also most importantly it's a field that I really enjoy, CS, so I guess that makes me a winner here. :D
Supprised that a computer games degree is not on there considering the degree is pretty much worthless when you speak to games industry employers about having one...
i say about 95 percent of degrees are useless, (atleast here in the U.S)
Its more of a "who you know" not "what you know"
it just sucks for the people that spend alot of money on college but cannot get a job, and someone who spends
and just knows a friend gets in through the backdoor
knowledge is good, dont get me wrong. but with computers now a days you can search the internet for any information
that can benefit you in life, and can explain to you a certain subject that would make more sense than how a teacher
would explain
hey raw, why do you think that psychology should be on that list? because my brother is majoring in that.LonelynightPsychology (by itself with no PhD or even Masters) is pretty much worthless...or, rather, it is no better than history, etc. It is the same as the most of the things on that list. It will land you a job that just requires a degree but nothing more. So, IMO, it should be on the list b/c it is exactly the same as those others
[QUOTE="thegerg"][QUOTE="rawsavon"] Yeah, I can always find a job (accounting). Oil and Gas definitely has the best benefits (10-20% bonus is pretty normal plus better retirement matching). The job just tends to be boring as all f*ck. That is the difference b/w accounting and finance. Finance has a higher ceiling (generally, aside from CEO type positions), but they are also not 'needed' as much (let go first). When I graduated with that degree in 2009, they were telling the finance kids to stay in school b/c the market for them was sh*trawsavonSimply because it is easy for accountants to find jobs now doesn't mean that that will always be the case. WAIT...ARE YOU ACTUALLY SAYING THAT THE WORLD MIGHT CHANGE AND THAT WHAT IS TRUE TODAY MIGHT NOT BE TRUE TOMORROW???? Holy f*cking sh*t. I can't believe I never thought to consider that. You must be some kind of seer or prophet. For f*ck's sake man... No one in their right mind will ever grantee that a job will always be in demand. But you can predict based on current markets and future needs. The way stock markets are set up, accountants will be required for quite some time (reporting and auditing). Now an asteroid could hit the earth or there could be a worldwide economic collapse/change and life end as we know it...but then I am not going to be too worried about my accounting degree anyways you would still need someone to account for and ration supplies. accounting/IT/Medical/farming the four fields that will always have employment opportunities.

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"]you would still need someone to account for and ration supplies. accounting/IT/Medical/farming the four fields that will always have employment opportunities. Yes, there will always be opportunities in all fields, that doesn't mean that a given person will always be able to find a job in that field. confusing market opportunities with individual performance? there are not always opportunities in all fields, and there are some fields that will always be understaffed based on the nature of that field. three of the four fields i named are services either all businesses or people require, and the forth is food, that is why there is always opportunity in those fields. not everyone needs a painter, not every business is going to need to design a building, not every business is going to be into biological research, and so on. every business needs accountancy and technical support, every person needs food and a form of medical observation.[QUOTE="rawsavon"] WAIT...ARE YOU ACTUALLY SAYING THAT THE WORLD MIGHT CHANGE AND THAT WHAT IS TRUE TODAY MIGHT NOT BE TRUE TOMORROW????
