Truck attacker kills at least 80 people in France

At least 30 people were killed and over 100 injured when a truck plowed intro crowds watching a fireworks display. So far they think it was an attack and not an accident.

At least 80 are reported dead now, "dozens" injured. Guns and grenades were found inside the vehicle, although it sounds like the driver was killed before they used them.

It's confirmed that the incident was a terrorist attack: The driver exchanged gunfire with police before being shot dead, and a photograph of the truck shows a windshield riddled with bullet holes.

Latest reports put the number of casualties at more than 70.

CNN reports that there were no shots fired from the truck.

That may well be the more accurate account. The allegation of an "exchange of gunfire" came from an MSN breaking news update that was published earlier, when details of the incident were still very sketchy.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Hollande saying that they would finally let the state of emergency lift on the 26th.

As a truck driver, this makes me sick to my stomach.

I don't even know how to react to these tragedies anymore. Almost every day there are terrorist or civil attacks now. The world is so fvcked up right now.

It's been a good minute since I watched any of the major news networks, but is it normal for them to show the carnage of the after math? Thought that was frowned upon.

I feel the same way sometimes, I mean it's easier to just turn off than submit your emotions to this stuff. And it happens so often, and we don't even hear about 90% of it. The world outside our world (Western world) is just chaos in so many areas.

I want to know more information. It looks like a terrorist attack but nobody knows what group, if he was a lone wolf, part of a cell, or just plain nuts or all of the above(even though that doesn't make sense).

I couldn't agree more. I am truly grateful I was able to grow up during the time I did, the 1980s (and the 90s). I have seen and experienced the difference, it's like night and day, or rather, day & night. The culture of the 80s, school, music, fun, and even the dark things, all seemed to have purpose compared to the madness and insanity of the present times. Whether it's political correctness, social media, terrorism, or just the shitty music, it's like bile to my soul.

Also, hours ago, I read a report that the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier had been scheduled to re-join the fight against ISIS later this year, but now the French aircraft carrier has been ordered back immediately .

I hope they unleash everything they've got on ISIS, just short of nuclear weapons.
