They knew this would happen. Them saying that they didn't think there would be public backlash is just idiotic. Why, when there's already a full-blown mosque there?I consider Trump's offer to be genuine...he can certainly and easily afford it.
Frankly, I believe he made the offer to try and defuse the situation for both sides.
Either that or he is one of the people that oppose the mosque.I consider Trump's offer to be genuine...he can certainly and easily afford it.

I couldn't say, but offering a profit to the planners makes it a win-win for both sides. If they took the deal, they could still have their building done.
Hah, so he can have another property to build on?dramaybaz
My take, he offers it to the Ground Zero memorial builders, or something to commemorate.
The only really dumb thing he did was mess up with his ex-wife.:P

Agreed, a building that old is worth saving as a historical landmark.
This makes me wonder what the motives are for putting the mosque at ground zero? i mean trump offered a great deal to the owner, 25% above what he paid is an amazing return, he could have kept the 25% return and build the mosque a measly 5 blocks away and everything would have been solved. i believe he purposely wants the mosque close to ground zero as a symbol of islamic dominance, like when you conquer new land you plant a flag. in any case they should have the right to build the mosque as long as they know building one there will have serious backlash to muslims in NY.

Yes, 25% is a huge profit margin. I would take that deal in a heartbeat.
or maybe the owners are seroius and want a community center actually in the local community, hard to believe isnt it. and not everyone caresabout the money maybe it isnt about money for them. also why 5 blocks when thers a proper mosque 4 blocks from ground zero? p.c. the mosque shouldnt be moved, moving it is a sign of giving into extremists and will set a bad precedent over future mosques anywhere in the usa.

Personally I think both sides are being idiots. The people against the mosque fail to realize that Islam didn't cause the 9/11 attacks, a bunch of deranged men did. That's like blaming Christianity as a whole for the acts of a few deranged priests who decided to molest young children. Sure you can blame the catholic church for protecting these deranged men, but the Church is not the religion. On the flip-side, the people who want to build a mosque at ground zero are being idiots too. Just because you have a right doesn't mean you have to abuse it. It's like the guy who wanted to burn the Koran. Sure he had the legal right to do so, but that was just tasteless. Same here, the builders should try to be sensitive to what occurred. Are you telling me they can't build a mosque somewhere else? A mosque located somewhere else wouldnt be as holy or something? this is NY, not Jerusalem. Just build it somewhere else and save a lot of people a lot of grief.II_Seraphim_IIBuilding an Islam community centre is the same as burning someone's Holy Book as a public display?

This is my thought. I mean, does Trump REALLY need the publicity? I mean really?[QUOTE="topsemag55"]This is my thought. I mean, does Trump REALLY need the publicity? I mean really?I consider Trump's offer to be genuine...he can certainly and easily afford it.

Maybe he doesn't need it, but he is a publicity hound.
Now, for the love of honesty, can we please stop calling this thing the "Ground Zero Mosque"? It is not a mosque and not at Ground Zero. It's blocks away. You can't even see one site from the other.

But "the Burlington Coat Factory Mosque" is not nearly as easy to get people to rally against. :P

It hurt me to do it, but I digress.
Not surprising. Selling it wouldn't help continue along whatever his ultimatum is.

Why wouldn't he sell it and move to a better spot with more Muslims in the area? Millions of people commute to Manhattan everyday for work.
