[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="Crimsader"]Yeah, invading another country is so much righter than leaving it be.CrimsaderHuman rights should be universal and defended voraciously. Does the entirety of the Ugandan population agree with this bill, or is this just the posturing of the select few at the top pushing their beliefs on everyone? Being from the West, we should be up in arms because of this. This violates everything people in our history have fought for. I agree, yet that's another country, with their government. The population has no voice in the case, since they have chosen their government. And again - intervening because of disagreeing is just as wrong as creating a law against the homosexual people. If people don't intervene then nothing is improved. I honestly don't understand the thinking that because they make a law...it's okay. It should not be okay.

oh i wasn't aware i was talking about your beloved America :P
defensive today aren't we?

as a side note, i could say - just as you feel your country is somehow Superior to Uganda, so do i feel that my country is superior to the USA.

I wasn't born in America :?
im not sure what that has to do with anything :?
i said "your government"
you automatically assumed i was being negative towards America..
which makes it obvious that you live there and have positive feelings towards it. SO your birthplace doesn't really matter:|
Maybe as a Canadian i should go down to the USA and make an attempt at voting Obama? You're not Ugandan, you have no say about what their government does to help it's peoples.Nibroc420
So you think such a policy helps people? Being anti gay is one thing, wanting them to die is another, your opinion is very very obvious.

I just said you don't see the comparison everyday. If you thought it was meant to be negative, its on you. What is it doing right? ;)So basically... what Uganda are doing is wrong? This is very confusing...

[QUOTE="sonicare"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"] But it does not affect us. We're not a part of their culture, and as such we have no "real" voice in Uganda. We're just randoms throughout the world who go "Hey, you shouldn't do that" What do they care?Nibroc420We are a part of the human race. I think if the Ugandan government knew what the rest of the world thought of their law, they may change their mind. Maybe countries won't trade with them. Maybe countries won't give them certain deals. Just like Uganda is free to make its laws, other countries are free to react to them. Maybe as a Canadian i should go down to the USA and make an attempt at voting Obama? You're not Ugandan, you have no say about what their government does to help it's peoples.
Your going beyond countries rights, its pretty obvious you think gays should be killed and agree with the policy.

No, if you thought that i assumed you were being negative, thats on you.[QUOTE="Harkat95"][QUOTE="Crimsader"] Their citizens have the right to leave the country any time they feel like not obeying the local law. And I don't think that there are many people who will suffer from this.Nibroc420I dunno, the gays that get executed maybe? Maybe they should start packing and moving to a different country then. Clearly no-one wants them in Uganda. Why would they want to stay? You make it sound like moving to another country is so easy to do...

Do you find anything wrong with Nazi Germany's genocide of Jews? Because this is kind of the same thing. It's extremely unfair. What if a law was passed in your country that said that all heterosexual people are to be executed? I think you would find that really unfair as well.

I believe you assumed that i thought you were being negative ;)There are people here defending this? :? I'd like to see what happens when their country passes laws authorizing the execution of people in their ethnic group solely based on their inclusion in that group.Engrish_Major
i dont think there is anyone defending this. But i do think there are some who manage to keep an objective opinion on it. If its those your referring to.

That is an oxymoron.
thats true,
even if we like to think there is something as an objective opinion
*resists temptation to get into another objectivity .vs. subjectivity argument*
GreySeal9
i know the difference, so take it easy
i should have used "trying" to keep an objective opinion
to avoid confusion
you cannot legislate the gay out of yourself, the republicans have been trying that for years and they are still getting caught having sex with other men at interstate rest areas.
it will fail there just like it did here.

I dont understand how some people in a sense are defending this legislation. Its not that we're saying all other countries laws should follow ours. Its just that this one essentially criminalizes certain sexual orientations and legalizes the murder of those who are slightly different than "the norm"

obviously every country with an superiority complex. Which are many. Especially in the west.

That's a silly thing to say. That won't ever happen. It doesn't even make any logical sense.
Neither does executing homosexual people for simply being homosexual. Tell me how that makes sense at all?
Threads like this allow posters who think like this to support such laws.
It allows bigots to express their consent, regardless of how discusting the law is.
tenaka2
threads like this also allow posters to criticize countries and governments who work in a similar manner
that's why i love it :P there should be more of them.

I would not bother threads such as this allow bigots to hide behind other countries laws to express themselves.
And this is why i'm against organized religionsI thought it was rather obvious? Homosexuality is haram.

I believe not giving people universal healthcare is wrong, i believe going to war is wrong, i believe torturing people is wrong.
Im sure many people believe this. But we simply accept it when our own government does it.
-
thats why i used my example. If we want to follow some idealistic view, then please, at least practice what you preach. If we dont do that. Then i cant blame Uganda for doing something wrong.
Simply because Uganda is going something wrong in "our (the west's) opinion. Just like America for example, is doing something wrong in my opinion, and im pretty sure Norway's opinion aswell.
EDIT: i should probably mention that i only used america as an example because you live there, and you asked me the question.
And when i say "norways opinion" , i mean the majority of the people, not the government.

Healthcare is available.....if you are too poor to afford it...the government picks up the tab. Otherwise you purchase it. If you prefer to spend your money on items other than healthcare then you deal with the consequences.War is not always wrong. Sometimes it's necessary.
Torture....well I'd have to see what you consider torture first.
