you have to be careful for they will not have vaccinations against diseases and a guy with a camcorder could potentially kill them through the illnesses he/she is carry but is protected against
but we should defiantly not try and change there ways

Let's send missionaries to destroy their culture and have them comform to ours! :D
[QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"][QUOTE="Thyeora"]I think it's really great, the measures that organizations down there go to in order to allow these people to continue being uninterrupted in there ways of life. So many tribal cultures have been destroyed and the few that still exist should definitely be maintained. SaintLeonidas
Uninterrupted? So in the event of a drought, no food should be delivered to them? How about medicine? They live in the jungle, the most disease-riddled environment on earth. What about conflict resolution? The article mentioned other tribes are migrating across the border from Peru. What happens if these tribes go to war with eath other? Do we sit back and maintain a Star Trekish Prime Directive?
We do nothing. What right is it of ours to interfere with the way these people have been living their entire exsistence, just because we discovered them doesnt change a thing. You complained that they were compared to animals, well in a sense they are, they are a primitive human species, do we save a gazel being chased by a lion? No, let nature take its toll.
Excuse me? Now you're saying that they aren't even the same species as us?

Actually thats pretty wrong, stuff like that happens only when you are exposed to the religion, if a baby were born on a remote island away from civilization and died on that island without any contact with any religion, then heaven is guaranteed.
Things like hell only happen when you willingly refuse to accept the religion, if you didnt kno it not your fault.

And what if Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindu's, Hare Krshna's and Zen monks appear all at the same time there? Who to believe? And why would the things the tribe believes in be wrong?[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"][QUOTE="Oleg_Huzwog"][QUOTE="Thyeora"]I think it's really great, the measures that organizations down there go to in order to allow these people to continue being uninterrupted in there ways of life. they are humans, like I said, but very primative, they have a completely different culture and perspective of the world, if tribes in that area fight, who are we to do anything.

We dont even know if the amazonian people have a religion, also idol worshipping or worshipping of more than one gods is strictly forbidden, that's how it goes in a monotheistic religion.

I agree. They've been fine all this time, so why start now?
It's a very interesting case, and I'm sure OT will be flooded with topics on it later. Like so many others, I wonder what the tribesmen's reactions were. Maybe they thought it was some sort of bird or a monster? Surely other planes have flown over them before?

What does "fine" mean? Huge infant mortality rates?

if that is even the case, thats the way they have lived for hundreds of years. You act like they need saving or something, let them be at peace, they have lived that way their entire lives, and the last thing we need to do is to interfere with their world.

And you act like they are a sub-species inferior to our own. Ones who don't even deserve an option of bettering themselves through outside assistance.

Yea lets bring them to our society were they can be free and work all day and pay bills and taxes... that's the best thing we can do, i'm sure they'll appreciate our kind gesture.i bet there are going to be some people out there that see this story and will seriously think the same thing >_>We need to HURRY and get some missionary's over there to spread the word of the lord...because there going to hell for sure! :D

How do you know they want us to help them? I'm not saying they don't deserve help, but I'm pretty certain they would fear us if we tried to contact them. We have these huge machines that they could never even dream of, if we step out of them and offer assistance (assuming we can even communicate), they'll treat us like gods. I don't think they're prepared to live in society as it is today. There's so much that they would have to learn, I just don't think it's worth it. It would be one of the biggest changes in lifestyle possible. Imagine if you were taken from your home, everything you knew was taken away, and you were placed alone in the jungle forever. You wouldn't appreciate that very much, would you?

I don't think anyone was suggesting putting them on a bus and dropping them off in New York City. But you know, maybe they'd like some rifles or some medicine. Maybe first we should try ASKING them if they want to interact with us?

Right. Nobody's suggesting relocation. Many of you are asking we place ourselves in their shoes. I'd ask you to do the same. If there was another civilization out there that had solutions to some of our biggest problems, would you not be interested in learning about it? A little culture shock in exchange for... say, a cure for cancer, is a fair trade.
we should let them carry on living how THEY want to.ColdRush88
I don't think it's a stretch to say if THEY knew there was a way to cure some disease then THEY would want to.

They've most likely found their own medicine in the form of plants/animals etc. They're still alive now.

Uh... what? I can guarantee you the quality of their medicine is nowhere near the quality of the rest of Brazil.
This is fairly interesting ... we should at least try to learn more about them , but stop short of actually interacting or trying to help them.Leave them as they are ...Whight_Knight
Learn about them but don't interact? This isn't Jane Goodall and her chimpanzees. They're people.

Interact , but don't interfere then ... and keep the interaction to a minimum. Its like if you're working on a project. If you're doing perfectly fine and going good , its okay if someone comes over to inquire what its about , but its another thing when they keep badgering you to help , making your work more difficult. That's annoying ... thats how I'd see this tribes situation.

Medicines are found in the wild and in nature you know.
And why can't we just leave them alone. The tribe is most likely a close knit group and don't want any outside interference. None of us would like it if people started watching us and tying to invade our space.

Yes, medicines are found in the wild... but of inferior quality.
As for the rest of your post, I suggest you read some of the earlier posts in this thread. None of us would like it if outsiders forced us to change our ways... but nobody's suggesting we do this. We WOULD like it if outsiders came and offered us an alternative solution to problems we face.

I'm pretty sure that history is full of cases in which lines of communication were opened between different cultures.

Humans have survived for thousands of years with "inferior" medicine.
Most of the post I've read are immature, suggesting we "paint them blue" or some other stupid thing.
I certainly wouldn't want somebody I don't know coming to tell me how to live my life. It's my life and I can live it how I want. And I think I'm not alone in thinking this.

Once again, NOBODY is suggesting we do this. Interact =/= Interfere.
I think it'd be really interesting to see what kind of technology they develop on their own terms. I've always wondered if you have two groups of (primitive) people on the opposite ends of the world and the land has a lot of resources- what would they develop? What kind of structure/hierarchy would they create? Weapons? Inventions? Obviously it would take a long time, but it's interesting to think aboutDivergeUnifyyeah it would be. thats why like i said before we should just observe them :) could make it a movie or reality show ! :P
