Leave them be. They'd be happier. All this machinery we have doesn't make us more free. It just makes us think we need it to be happy and productive...it's a lie. This machinery...this accumulation of material possessions...big hdtv's, computers, et cetera enslaves us. I'd be happier just tilling the soil of Gaia and collecting berries.WildstarGoethe
So...why are you VOLUNTARILY sitting in front of a computer typing messages on an internet discussion board?
I mean, I see people talking all the time about how horrible our way of life is. But there are a lot of wilderness areas around. Anyone who REALLY wants to can choose to pretty much just disappear.
Have you ever ACTUALLY lived outside of modern society? Have you ever actually been FORCED to live in the woods with the threat of disease, starvation, and dehydration being constantly an issue? Have you ever actually had to spend all day looking for food?
Of course, these guys probably DO get along "just fine". They've probably been around for a long time. And if left alone, they'll probably be around for a long time. But that doesn't mean that they don't have problems.
You know, people didn't used to have cars. We got along fine without cars, and we'd be doing fine if cars were never invented. Still, cars caught on because they're pretty ****ing cool. We didn't used to have cell phones or the internet. Televisions are also a pretty recent invention. Do we NEED them? Of course not. But they're awesome and we want them, so we have them. In any case, if modern technology is THAT awful, why are you sitting here in an air-conditioned building making posts on the internet using a personal computer, and talking about how you wish that you were living in the woods covered with ticks and having to eat beetles and lizards? If that's REALLY how you want to live, you don't have to travel very far to live like that.
Now, that's not to crap on these guys' culture. I'm sure that they for the most part probably DO like their culture and their way of life. But EVERYONE has problems that they'd like solutions to. If a few chainsaws could make life a little bit easier for these guys, while still allowing them to retain their cultural identity, then what is the problem?
