When I say unpopular I mean more if judged by other posters rather than the generally public (basically don't go bland with "*top 40 artist or in general* sucks). I'll go with
Pink Floyd is vastly overrated (not a bad band, but only have a couple of songs i'd listen to if it wasn't next on the radio)
Death/Black metal (and its 910232020 off-shoots) to use a phrase that won't ignite fiery debate, isn't good at all.
American Idiot was a good album (21st Century Breakdown did suck though)

I know I have others but none more off the top of my head. What about you OT?

Despite being a big fan of the alternative rock scene since way back and despite most of my friends being fairly fond of them, I've always found every tiny bit of music done by The Velvet Underground to be just very bad music and terrible to endure. I understand why and how they were highly influential to a lot of folks, but I've always hated everything of theirs that I've heard. Oh Frank Zappa kinda is in that same boat as well although I don't think any of my friends have ever been fans.

Oh gosh I couldn't tell you exactly. When I used to run record stores back in the '80s-'90s I've always had employees that loooooooved him and used to play his albums all the time and I never heard anything I found particularly engaging. It just always bored me. But y'know...different strokes and all that. If you worked in good record stores you tend to get used to anything so that nothing really bothers you too much.

I don't like "bands." I like "composers" and "musicians."

If a band does a terrible cover of a song, "It's a cover, it's not supposed to be the same!" is not a legitimate defense.

Also, video game music, musical theatre, and film scores are sorely missing from our discussions about music.

I hate opera and program* music generally but I agree that video game and film music is very underrated.

*Not the best term but basically I background music with a large emphasis on whatever it is accompanying.

I don't know anybody else other than me that listens to brutal grindcore / deathgrind / pornogrind / goregrind / pornogore and all that.

At youtube I can't find 60% of their stuff, and most of the tracks don't have more than 80-100 views. Except for four or five that have 100k.

My opinion? As a genre, it's something that words cannot describe. It's just so damn funny I can't resist.

Yeah, I don't think that's really upopular though. The only time I would think of someone pulling that stunt is if they were defending their favourite band. I genrerally don't like covers unless they are really good and have an actual reason to exist that isn't just attempting to replicate someone elses sound. It's different if it's live, but on studio recordings medicore cover songs have no place.

I hate scream singing in songs, i don't care if "it takes skill", nor will i except really any excuses.

it sounds terrible. (though i will admit the instrumentals are impressive, just not my style)

Well I am aware of his career and his diversity as I believe that randomness coupled with his humorous hippie rock background was the real reason why he got more recognition than I feel he deserved. But I played along like a good boy as it has been a while and listened to all that and it's pretty much what I remember...lot's of terrible nonsense and/or boring and shapeless compositions mixed with misplaced attempts at irreverency to my ears. If you like that sort of thing then you might try some early John Zorn music most notably the "Cobra" sessions that he used to be fond of holding with other musician before he started composing quiet and eerie soundscapes.

IMO, The Beatles suck. I just don't get what is supposed to be good about them. I'm a person who likes many different kinds of music, but I can't stand anything by the Beatles. I know I'm in the minority, but it's always confused mehow they're supposed to be one of the greatest bands ever.

I'm going to give some opinions that are unpopular on OT:

Lil' Wayne isn't that bad, he even has some pretty enjoyable stuff (though he also has some stuff that is godawful).
Kanye West is one of the best musicians of the 2000s.
I don't know what anyone sees in Vampire Weekend. I think they're borderline nauseating.

Unpopular music's great. Better than popular. But I'm not allowed to talk about that...

I reckon all this underground Hip-Hop people keep posting on GS in an attempt to make us rockers like it all sounds the same. It sounds like Hip-Hop...

I agree with you MOSTLY. It does sound pretty horrible. But if it goes with the mood of the song it can add so much expression. So it's good when used properly in moderation you could say. I guess what you were reffering to were the metal bands who scream right through their songs, yes?

I have never seen the appeal of Faith No More. Really, any Mike Patton project in general. I understand he's a talented guy, but his music leaves me cold.

The Clash were pretty hit or miss.

Psychedelic music is about 10% gold, 90% meandering, self-indulgent crap.

your title confuses me a bit but anyway bands that alot seem to like that i dont include Radiohead, i never heard a song by them i wanted to hear again Metallica , i like Enter Sandman and One but other then that i cant think of anything else i ever liked by them pretty much any heavy/death/black/etc metal, theirs been some stuff here and their i liked but most of it to me is unlistenable trash country, cant stand it at all Greenday, i admit i like some of their older stuff and still do but i cant listen to them anymore ( most people that share my feelings tho sadly dont listen out of spit for "selling out" which is just stupid, if you dont like where they went with their sound fine dont listen like i did but dont call them a sell out, they make music to sell not to please you by staying underground )

I find nearly all negative opinions on particular bands and genres to be unpopular.

There are plenty of musicians that don't make any music I like, such as Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, Brittney Spears, ect,. That's just opinion. Some people just can't accept the fact the music they love can be hated. Everyone has different music tastes and needs. These arguments in OT can get pretty silly.

Well let's see:

Unpopular here:

The Rev was a phenominally talented drummer and easily one of my fav drummers ever, if not my fav.

Avenged Sevenfold is a fantastic band and the only CD that is really lacking is their self-titled.

Recovery was a fantastic album and my fav work of Eminems.

The Indie genre is generally terrible. I can tolerate very little of it. Most of the bands aren't making big bucks for a reason...

American Idiot is simply a fantastic album, no way around it. One of the best cd's put out last decade.

In general:

Plenty of "legendary" bands I simply just don't care for, such as Floyd, Zep, ACDC (besides a few songs), and even the Beatles.

Kanye West is simply TERRIBLE and deserves none of the recognition he gets.

Mainstream hip-hop is absolutely terrible for that matter.

The Black Eyed Peas might be the worst group ever.

Radiohead is insanely boring besides Creep.
