:| Fox is in no way different to these kinds of things, they have their media strategies just like every one else.

Sajo7

Fox News gave a lot of respect to Juan Williams...they didn't "bash him" for being a liberal, nor for the fact that he worked for NPR.

Christ, they hired him to anchor O'Reilly a bunch of times - NPR would never do that. ba-dumm-tsshh.:P

Again, what are you basing this off of? Is there a study that determines each news sources "bash" factor? I listen to NPR frequently and I've never heard them "bash" anyone.

Fox puts on both sides of an issue with guests from both sides, "We report, you decide". NPR, CNN, MSNBC only touts one ideology, never both sides to allow an informed decision.

If I could poke my nose back in this thread, I'd just like to add that problems like these can be avoided for the most part if there was more unionization in the workforce rather than have some autocratic CEO who can fire you at their behest.

You're being disingenuous.

1. Fox has an obvious conservative slant. They don't not tout liberalism in any form. They may allow liberal guests, but that doesn't mean they are nuetral.

2. CNN has way less of a slant and is more neutral. Also, conservative guests have been on CNN plenty of times.

3. MSNBC has had conservative guests on their programs, but you're not about see me tell myself that they are neutral.

4. Why are you wearing rose-tinted glasses when it comes to Fox? Why would you even kid yourself about that. The fact that you tout their slogan is over-the-top to be honest. I mean, you should at least try to get paid for that.

I wouldn't say Fox puts on both sides of an issue; the guests they have range only from the center to the far (and increasingly farther) right. The other stations focus mostly on the center and center-right. There really isn't any mainstream news organization that is clearly liberal in the same respect that Fox is clearly conservative.

I edited it because it was too nice.

No, I'm just kidding. The response needed to be toned down.

It just bugs me when people try to represent news networks that have been tailored to a certain ideology for money-making reasons as "balanced" or whatever.

They saw big money in a conservative-flavored sensationalist infotaintement network, so they made one. And they succeeded massively. But not for a minute were they intent on making a network that gives equal time to both ideologies or is objective or "reports and lets you decide" or whatver.

You know why MSNBC is so liberal-flavored these days? It's because they wanted to make money off of the FOX model.

Williams and Alan Colmes are not center.

I consider Hannity to be somewhat abrasive, yet he does have far-left guests on, I can't recall their names at the moment.

O'Reilly treated both Hillary Clinton and Obama very well on his interviews of them - and neither of them are center.

Really saying "seeing Muslims" gets you nervous is offensive. While being more precise like "seeing Muslims with thick beards and Islamic clothing" sounds more appropriate.

Obama and H. Clinton are very clearly center left an O' Reily treated them well because they are politicians. He doesn't treat other liberals very well at all.

Its easy to have far left guests on. That doesn't make FOX less of a deeply conservative-flavored network.

Rush is center right as are most "conservative extremists" like Pat Buchanan. I consider far-right to be the folk that want the U.S. to return to its founding principles of prohibiting women's suffrage, and advocating racism and slavery in the name of states' rights. That's why I don't consider myself a conservative, because modern conservatism is so progressive, it's not even funny.

Yeah, and you guys have done your bashing too. That's politics. And you guys obsess over certain liberals like Pelosi and Obama, etc.

And that rationale does not at all give the assumption that liberal would do a 180 in this particular issue any weight. At all.

I think it depends on the context in which it was said. I don't believe his intent was to demean muslims, I think he was just speaking on his own insecurities. I'd rather see some clarification than a blanket firing. Certainly organizations have the right to decide who they want working for them, but this may be a little bit of an overeaction.

Yeah, I didn't mean for that to come off as a bad thing that conservatives are progressive. I'm socially conservative by this foreign standards, socially moderate for modern American standards, but very progressive for the standards 200 years ago. I'm just saying that the social wing of conservatism keeps taking hits when slavery is prohibited and the 20th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act pass, and conservatism readjusts to modern society. I wouldn't be surprise if someday in the future, conservatism accepts homosexuality as a responsible lifestyle choice.

Attack ads and attacking politicians is politics. That's why it's been going on so long. And every side does it.

So that's why I get tired of hearing about how the poor innocent precious Republicans have endured so many double standards from the evil liberals.

Because the Dems are subject to double standards as well.

I really don't doubt that many people (in general, I'm not thinking of anyone specific) have racist reactions from time to time, including having feelings of unease when on a plane with Muslims. So I don't think Williams was wrong to say this out loud.

But, the problem is he should have expanded further on that statement. Instead of saying, "I'm not racist, BUT," he should have said, "I have these racist feelings and reactions from time to time, and this is an issue I need to address. I need to move beyond having these feelings, because they aren't right."

Muslims aren't a race.

I consider any identifiable social group to be a race.

For example, if you don't like old people? Racist.

That makes no sense at all. You can't be a racist if you don't like the elderly

Of course it does. I don't like old people and I don't like white people either :P

If I could poke my nose back in this thread, I'd just like to add that problems like these can be avoided for the most part if there was more unionization in the workforce rather than have some autocratic CEO who can fire you at their behest. -Sun_Tzu-

Unions also have a dark side...like when a local news station filmed auto workers getting stoned and chugging beers in a public place then going back to work...they don't deserve any union protection, imo.

Guy appearing on national television equating muslims with terrorists? And he's upset that people would rather not employ him? Common sense, fella.

because it did not sync with their editorial opinion. biased as it is. don't cry for Juan though, fox just hired him for three years and two million dollars as a contributer. nice job change. NPR has shown their true colors at time when germany and france are saying that multiculturalism is failing. language and culture matter. borders too. when you cross any of those to live and work, do it legally and integrate yourself into the new surroundings. When in rome, do as the romans do.

Cool beans; what does any of that have to do with muslims exactly? It's not rocket science. Going on national TV and saying muslims = terrorists in your eyes is a pretty dumb thing to do. Whatshisface got fired just last week for saying he thinks the media is run by jews. It's not fired for 'stating my honest opinion' it's fired for saying something freakin' stupid which you should keep to yourself. He feels nervous around muslims? Fine, but don't say it on national TV because then the organization which you work for by extension defends your stupid views by not doing anything about it.
