[QUOTE="Protoford"]

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]Guy appearing on national television equating muslims with terrorists? And he's upset that people would rather not employ him? Common sense, fella. Ninja-Hippo

because it did not sync with their editorial opinion. biased as it is. don't cry for Juan though, fox just hired him for three years and two million dollars as a contributer. nice job change. NPR has shown their true colors at time when germany and france are saying that multiculturalism is failing. language and culture matter. borders too. when you cross any of those to live and work, do it legally and integrate yourself into the new surroundings. When in rome, do as the romans do.

Cool beans; what does any of that have to do with muslims exactly? It's not rocket science. Going on national TV and saying muslims = terrorists in your eyes is a pretty dumb thing to do. Whatshisface got fired just last week for saying he thinks the media is run by jews. It's not fired for 'stating my honest opinion' it's fired for saying something freakin' stupid which you should keep to yourself. He feels nervous around muslims? Fine, but don't say it on national TV because then the organization which you work for by extension defends your stupid views by not doing anything about it.

Again....that is not what he did. :|

Is there any point any more in being critical of Muslim extremism?

You'll either get fired or get killed.

It's not worth it LJ. If it's clear that this is how he interpreted Juan's comment, then saying otherwise won't change his opinion.

Again, having listened to the ombudsman and several reports on it on NPR, it's pretty clear that there were long standing issues between the network and Juan Williams. "Straw that broke the camel's back" sounds about right.

I guess you are right....and it helps explain why people lose jobs etc. Public perception....doesn't matter if it's true or not. Which is...unfortunate.

I read Juan's piece about his time there and what NPR did to him in the end. Sounds almost racist. I don't think NPR is racist but, if I was one of these idiots going around labeling anything with a heartbeat a racist, then I'd say NPR is racist for treating him like that.

That being said Juan just spoke what everyone feels and don't lie to yourself and us by denying it. We ALL get nervous in certain situations. Juan's got a pair unlike a lot of other people. So good for him for saying how he feels. You know Bill Maher wants to say it too. It's right on the tip of his tongue. It's only a matter of time.

NPR really showed that they have no spine. Firing juan williams was the worst thing they could possibly do, the guys at fox say WAY more offensive stuff then he ever did yet NPR fires him for an opinion :? Political correctness at it's WORST I think.

O'Reilly really backed him up, saw it on TV last night. Was really impressed and glad that Juan is getting all the support he is.

why is this a controversy? saying you're uncomfortable around Muslims on airplanes makes you a bigot and should discredit you from being in a news organization that tries to be unbiased. it's no coincidence FOX hired him right away

I agree...I think a lot of people overlook the fact that O'Reilly is an Independent - not a Republican.:)

Wait huh? The topic enveloped any Muslim who wore any religious mark.. Not just extremists.. Furthermore Sikhism is another religion that wear turbans that people consistently confuse with Islam.. I can see a Sikh being pissed at these comments.. Especially when they have seen some bigotry in post 9/11 when people stereotyped them as Islamic followers.

.. It doesn't really make a difference, the vast majority of his views are conservative.. Who cares what party he does or doesn't affiliate himself with...

If i ever have to get on an airplane and happen to be wearing a skull cap or wearing Saudi clothes.

and i see quivering eyes. i just wanna say.

"Boo... get over yourself"

I can't find the Yahoo version of the article. but isn't it ironic that a white person gets all nervous if they see a black guy walking who looks anything like gangster (be they just a fake on for dress up alone) and gets all nervous. and if it becomes an issue or problem, they'll preach to the mountain tops racism.

...........

Should not of been fired for it though, should of been rebuked for it, but that's all.

but i've also heard what Juan Williams has said about the Muslim community in the past... so this does not really surprise me.

SaudiFury

I agree with you but we are only human, and society and the media does its best to never let down stereotypes...so much, in fact, that the very people being stereotyped often tend to perpetuate them.

I wish as well we could get over them, and I feel on an individual basis (i.e. if I met you and you had a skullcap on, and you met me and I h ad a beard and shaved head) we'd be fine

but in public settings, the opposite happens: people would problably give you a weird look and might get a bit scared even, just like people tend to go the other way when they see me walking down the store isle.

I think most of the people who hate him take what they hear from someone else and run with it. If you actually listen to what the guy's views are they really aren't that different from most other people's. He's a pretty fair guy. He's not far right and he's not far left. His views closely match that of your average american. That's why he has so many viewers.

[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] I wouldn't say Fox puts on both sides of an issue; the guests they have range only from the center to the far (and increasingly farther) right. The other stations focus mostly on the center and center-right. There really isn't any mainstream news organization that is clearly liberal in the same respect that Fox is clearly conservative. topsemag55

Williams and Alan Colmes are not center.

I consider Hannity to be somewhat abrasive, yet he does have far-left guests on, I can't recall their names at the moment.

O'Reilly treated both Hillary Clinton and Obama very well on his interviews of them - and neither of them are center.

Juan Williams is definitely a centrist and Colmes at the most is center-left. Hannity is very conservative, and he rarely has far left guests on his show (the far left really doesn't have a voice on any of the mainstream networks). And Clinton and Obama are both centrists - if they were in any other developed country like the UK they'd probably be members of the Conservative party.

[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"]If I could poke my nose back in this thread, I'd just like to add that problems like these can be avoided for the most part if there was more unionization in the workforce rather than have some autocratic CEO who can fire you at their behest. topsemag55

Unions also have a dark side...like when a local news station filmed auto workers getting stoned and chugging beers in a public place then going back to work...they don't deserve any union protection, imo.

That's completely irrelevant. One doesn't need to be a member of a union to smoke weed and chug beers before work.
