I my Canadian and American history classes (yeah I'm taking both)

Born_Lucky

There's your first mistake. You don't honestly believe that you're being told the whole truth in the classes you're taking do you? I didn't learn about American history until I started doing my own research, and not just reading what I was told to read. For instance - did you know that there were black plantation owners - who owned slaves? I bet they censored that out of your classes too.

Actually yes. I learned that in my US history class.

One thing I didn't learn in school is how we put Japanese Americans on the west coast in camps, in WW2 because we were afraid if there was an invasion along the west coast, that they would help the Japanese.

The US has 9 cities with over a million people, 35 with over 500K, and over 100 with over 100K. This is not including metropolitan areas, just the city centers.
I didn't say every state in the US is warm in the winter, but we have options, you don't. If I want to see snow I drive for a couple hours, if I want to tan on the beach and sip lemonaide, I drive for a couple hours.
As for snoop saying BC has the best weed, I don't agree, I will agree Canada has great weed, but so do we, especially in states where they have medicinal marijuana.

Pariahdox

What do the number and size of cities have to do with anything?

Look at this

The US has 2 cities in the list and Canada has 5

What do you have to say about that?

Thats there opinion and I would disagree.
But man, those cities in Austraulia and New Zealand are gorgeous.

You look any list for quality of life in cities or countries, Canada is always in the top 10 and always ranked higher than the United States

Vancouver has been in the top 5 cities to live and/or visit in every and any tourist, statistical database, survey or anything that measures anything about where to go on this planet. It's not just their opinion, it's the opinion of the world.

1. You are correct, a lot of the land in Canada is not populated but it is used for natural resources.

2. The U.S has a city with 500k? There are cities in the U.S with easily over 2 million people. Canada has that too. Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City are just to name a few.

3. United States in any social studies or history ****is referred to as a "Melting Pot". Where Americans stress being "American". Fair enough. In Canada we're referred to as a "Cultural Mosaic" where preserving your own culture alongside Canadian culture is stressed. By those definitions alone, we're just as, if not more diverse than the U.S. Both are very diverse countries.

4. Vancouver alone is a clone of New York in terms of skyscrapers. In fact most movies that claim to be in New York are filmed in Vancouver. Didn't know that...eh?

5. We naturally the most beautiful country on Earth. Did you even watch the Olympics? NBC said that about BC and Canada in general being known for the natural landscape.

6. We have stellar beaches, of course the California and Florida coastlines are definitely more amazing.

7. Not every city in the U.S is 75 degrees during Christmas. In fact, very few actually are. You're going to tick off a bunch of New Yorkers.

8. *sigh* Snoop Dogg has said it that "BC Bud" is the finest weed. Not that we should be arguing about the taste of drugs.

9. 8/10 winters it DOES NOT SNOW in Vancouver. It's actually not that cold. In fact it's warmer than most Northern and Eastern U.S cities at the least.

10. Do your hmwk son.

1. Your populations numbers are all wrong.

2. We do have options. Believe it or not, and I'll speak for BC because I'm from there, the interior of the Province is a desert. You know a desert? Looks exactly like the desert you'd see if you were driving in the middle of nowhere in California?

3. I'm not going to get into an argument about drugs. I know really nothing about it, and you CLEARLY do.

4. You can't possibly drive for a "couple of hours" from a city that is in a blizzard to a beach that is near 80degrees. It takes days of driving. You can't even drive from Seattle to San Diego in a couple of hours. And the temperature is only so different. If you're going from New York down to Florida GOOD LUCK.

1. My population numbers are right, you are wrong.
2. I don't know or care about the desert.
3. Than why did you bring the subject up
4. This past year there was a blizzard where I lived, so I literally drove 3 hours to the beach. Pretty much every winter I will drive up to oklahoma or CO and see snow, its a 5-10 hour drive, not a couple of days, than I will go back home or to the beach where its 50-70 degrees.

I don't know why we're comparing population anyway, but if we want to get picky on population (despite that Canada has several big cities), we can get picky on the appeal of having a vast land with a small population too. For example, there's just this thought of extreme isolation (Canada only has a density of 3 person per square kilometer) that creates a romantic view of solitude and adventure.

Hey, I said in the beginning Canada has some cool cities. Vancouver, Toronto, etc. I could just never live there cause the winter is so incredibly brutal. I'm not speaking about any certain city I'm speaking about the country as a whole because its so huge and filled with so little compared to its size.

Im just being brutally honest in telling you why I would never live there, and there are many reasons.

We'll get you eventually. We've got you economically,l and we'll get you politically. Back in the day we didn't want to risk a full-fledged war with the Brits, and we hoped that the provinces would eventually decide to join the Union on their own, sort of the way that settlers in Texas broke off from Mexico. Then, that phase of our history ended and the World Wars began, and our priorities changed. But since WWII, you've been getting further and further from Britain, and subsequently closer and closer to us. You will be assimilated.

You do realize we could conquer Canada in an afternoon right? :|

too bad every civilized nation of the world would declare war on us...

Nah, the UN would probably try to give us a strongly worded letter to stop (without any force to back it up), and then we'd veto it (since we're permanent members of the security council). Basically what happened when Russia invaded Georgia (i.e. nothing whatsoever).

1. Technically we've got each other. We actually rely on each other quite a bit. Without us your country would take a huge economic hit and send you into a recession...oh wait :P

2. Our dollar is on par. We've got YOU economically, and we're not in a recession.

3. You're right, our countries are brothers and Britain has next to nothing to do with Canada aside from being part of the commonwealth. And that has no bearing on our country. Thanks to Pierre Trudeau in 1982.

Yes, our economic relationship is precisely the reason why Canada will inevitably bein the U.S.' orbit. And the fact that Canada has become sovereign from Britain means that the U.S. has been able to deal bilaterally with Canada, instead of with Britain as well. Sort of like what's happening in Europe, the trade partnership will lead to a political one.

Honestly I could care less about Canada and I assume most Americans feel the same too. They only have like 5 great cities, the majority of it is just nothing. The US has a city with 500K plus people and different cultures in almost every state. Also its freekin cold there. Most of Canada is a carbon copy of the worst states in the US. Cold and barren.
In the US we have palm trees, skyscrapers, beaches, multiple mountain ranges, the grand canyon, and places where its 75 degrees in christmas, and every single culture and race in the entire world. Can canada say any of that? No, they just have good weed, but so do we, especially in states where there medicinal MJ.

Toronto however is one of the best cities in the entire world.

Pariahdox

Oh boy... where to start?

5 great cities? How many 'great' cities does the US have? Not to mention that US has way more people and way more cities. So saying that Canada has 5 great cities is actually a compliment because that would mean the USA would have about, 45 great cities. Let's see: New york, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, San Diego, San Fransisco, Seattle? 9 cities that I can think of that are very nice cities. Inb4 Washington D.C (ugliest and most dangerous city I have ever seen other than the 1 square mile downtown), Los Angeles (nice beaches, but just a bunch of rich stuck up people, and then poor areas, not pretty), Atlanta (what is this I don't even).

And I'm not sure what you mean about cities of 'plus 500k', Canada has tons of those. Canada also has tons of cultures from around the world, and domestic cultures that vary from province to province (and territory).

Yes, it's so cold in Canada, so cold in fact that cities like Detroit and Buffalo are not only colder than Toronto (and the rest of Southern Ontario), but they get more snow. Also, on the west coast, they don't get any snow, because it's about 10C (50F) all winter.

Vancouver, Victoria, and other west coast cities have palm trees. Canadian cities have WAY more skyscrapers than American cities because people actually LIVE DOWNTOWN, so it doesn't just become a nuclear wasteland after 5pm and on weekends.

Canada has some amazing beaches, some of the best in the world actually (Tofino has arguably the world's best surfing in the world).

Almost every mountain range the USA has, Canada has. The Rockies? Coast Mountains? Appalachians?

Grand Canyon, what an amazing point. You have me beat. I have no respone and cannot compete with that, something that you will see for 5 minutes of your life (canadians can enjoy that 5 minutes too). Seriously, what is this?

Cool 75 degrees during christmas, have fun sweatball fights!

Canada has every single race and culture aorund the world too. Arguably more and better, because we diversify, not assimilate.

Yes, Toronto is one of the best cities in the world, along with Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax ...-walks into the horizon-.

Seriously though, USA and Canada are two of the best countries in the world, they each have their pros and cons. But the stuff you said was incredibly stupid and ignorant.

[QUOTE="weezyfb"]Canada historically has put up good fights with their small numbershedden93

agreed. Canada helped a lot in D-day and throughout WW2.

Due to British logistics, arms, and support.

The over-liberalization and giving too much power to a small but voal anti-war minority makes Trudeau a national hero here. It's pathetic, I love my country don't get me wrong, but it bothers me how they act if you're not a liberal conformist you're "un-Canadian". It's the exact polar opposite of what goes down in the States.

Also I think I should put this out there, cause I know I have been a little brutal and even ignorant.
Canada has some of the nicest people I have ever met. Ive honestly never met a D-Bag from Canada. All the ones ive met carry themselves with alot of cla$$ and seem very friendly and have an interesting culture. Im just being brutally honest in telling you why I would never live there, and there are many reasons.

Just wondering, what are you basing your arguements on? Population? What the hell does that matter if you argue the States having more populated citis thus making it better. In that case I will bring up China as being a magnificent place because of it's large city base.

China is one of the most magnificent places, despite many of it's ugly sides... It's a country known for its contrasts anyway.

I don't know what canada's history books say, but canada didn't exist in 1812, it was still called British North America. It wasn't until 1982 that canada became a true sovreign nation.

Canadians are so misguided in believing that they were the underdogs in 1812 when in actuality they were citizens of the British Empire at the time and the British Empire comprised of over a tenth of all the land in the world at the time and was basically the superpower of it's day.

What do the number and size of cities have to do with anything?

Look at this

The US has 2 cities in the list and Canada has 5

What do you have to say about that?

thelastguy

Damn, Germany's representin' like crazy in that list too.

If Canada had ever been worth taking over, we would have taken it over.

[QUOTE="wolverine4262"]

[QUOTE="limpbizkit818"]The Civil War is not covered....... at all. The build up to the war? Yes. Reconstruction? Hell yes. The War itself? Not even talked about. I remember we skipped 1861-1865 in my AP US History class in High School.

m0zart

thats really odd. I went through it couple times in school...My college american history class went through it...where did you go to school?

Yeah I've literally never heard of that happening. Every single American History class I've ever taken at least alluded to the Civil War at various points in the course, and those classes that covered a period of time that intersected with the Civil War went into it in some heavy detail.

Alluded is one thing, being covered "extensively" is another. I am taking about the war itself, the battles, the events, the people. 9 out of 10 people today can't name a General outside of Lee and Grant because they where never taught about the War. What did you learn about it? I am curious to see how in-depth your class was. To respond to the other guy's post, I went to High School in New York.
