Vikings... and its locked at 50-50 now

Well, since it was bumped. Might as well throw in my opinion.:P Even though the simulation was very close, the vikings should have won. They decided to program the shield as an offensive weapon, thereby giving the Naginata the edge. In reality they would have used an axe (or occasionally a sword) in combination with the shield. That alone would have changed the outcome of the simulation.
The same could be said for the spears. And the Vikings used bows as well.
There are a few other points that I could touch on, but I think that's good enough. :x
Why is this an argument? Samurais came hundreds aof years after Vikings and have better weapons.
Refined steel sword >>>>
Vikings for the sheer fact that they confused the world by calling The 'Green Land' Iceland and the 'Ice Land' Greenland. :P
James Gandolfini v. Gene Kelly in a danceathon? Gene Kelly hands down.
Gandolfini v. Kelly in a courtroom drama? Well, Gandolfini might have the better acting chops overall but he gets found out in some roles, whereas Kelly usually played to his strengths. This is a close one.
So, in short, Samurai wins the one-on-one battle and wears his vanquished foe's hide just for kicks. But in battle, it's all up in the air. We need a videogame set in some parallel universe to settle this.
Samurai! By the time the Viking has rosen its Axe the Samurai has stabbed him, stolen his girlfriend, sunk his ship and done his groceries.-eddy-
 And sent his mother a letter of condolence.
Vikings were definitly far superior in both the body (stronger, bigger etc) and experience (average Viking has a lot more experience at combat than average samurai did). So the question would be if the specific type of armor/weaponry would give one an advantage enough to overpower the enemy. Vikings didn't wear armor strong enough to stop Katana, aside from helmets. On the other hand though viking's swords would also completely crush samurai on contact, considering the size/weight/speed of viking's axe or sword samurai would be completely uncapable of stopping it, even with his own sword. He would have to dodge. Considering how much bigger vikings were and shape of swords Viking would have far greater reach compared to samurai and also a lot bigger versality. Katanas are slashing swords, they aren't perfect for stabbing, they have only one slashing side and need to be used with both hands (Musashi Miyamoto being the exception :D ), which also limits the range even further. Compared to that Viking's sword can be used for clashing from both sides, can be used by one hand, allowing viking to have a shield in the other (and no...most Katanas wouldn't cut through shield) and allowing far greater reach.
So my vote goes to Viking, he has all the advantages. THe only diffrence would be if samurai would be some sort of sword genius, but just as well he could have stumbled into a similiary skilled viking, so such discussion would be pointless
I change my answer. Samurai were like uber awesome they had the best swords that were folded like a bajillion times and were super powerful and could cut through bullets! They had super fast moves and could dodge the puny Viking because everyone knows being faster and having a fancy sword makes you better every time! Samurai were the best fighters ever!
The samurai sword was one of the most advanced swords for its time, this video showcases its extreme strength and sharpness.
Awesomness.

Vikings. Sure, samurai's were battle-hardened but Vikings were insane, battle-hardened, drunken, battleaxe-weilding, musclebound, pillaging rapists who ran at their enemies screaming at the top of their lungs and waving thier weapons around like they were made of aluminum foil.
A viking would crush the poor samurai.
This. All the frickin' way, this.[QUOTE="gun65"]Katana can cut a human in half with one slice O.o Except when the poor quality of it's steel and thin design hits any other hard object and breaks. Most definitley vikings. Hulking monsters with large swords and axes that wore chainmail and pretty much lived to destroy their enemies......isn't looking good for a samurai.
