Well, actually he and I are in college. We're living at a campus apartment. So, there's really no way for him to get a private room unless he moves off of campus.

We have a "signal" of sorts. We have a whiteboard hanging outside of the door. If there's a certain object drawn on the board, we know not to go in there.
I would tell him to let you know in advance, but even if he didn't on one or two occasions I would go somewhere at least for about 30 minutes. You don't want to block your friends.
