Whatcha' reading, OT?

I'm currently half-way through A Dance With Dragons, book five of A Song of Ice and Fire. Pretty good, much better than A Feast for Crows, me thinks.

I'm trying to find some good sci-fi/fantasy/modern thriller to read on my Kindle after I'm finished with this. Going to the Jersey Shore for a couple weeks, so I need some things to keep me occupied. Any ideas?

I just finished Volume 4 of the complete collection of Bloom County, and I'm working on book 4 of Troy Denning's Prism Pentad (a D&D series based in the Dark Sun campaign setting). From there, I'm torn between re-reading Harry Turtledove's Great War or World War series, or taking another stab at L. E. Modesitt's "The Magic Engineer."

I have vol.1 of the Bloom County collection, I'm currently waiting for the Borders store by my house to drop the price on Vol. 2-4 so I can pick them up.

Haha me to. I've seen it hasn't been getting great reviews, similiar to Crows but tbh, I enjoyed A feast for crows and what I've read of A dance with dragons just as much as the previous three. Can't see where people are finding the faults. No idea what I'm going to read after it fiction wise (I'm reading certification books and what not but I do enjoy my fiction). I'm still waiting on the next book in the Witcher saga as well as the next book in the Twelve/thirteen years later series. I'm also hoping Metro 2034 will be published in English in the not too distant future.

Also, for Jersey, GTL br4, GTL.........

The first three books are EXCELLENT. The fourth, A Feast for Crows wasn't the greatest, and A Dance With Dragons is great, so far.

I am currently reading Red November, Inside The Secret U.S. - Soviet Submarine War by W. Craig Reed. Pretty interesting so far, I am up to the beginning of the Cuban Missle Crisis where the Soviets gave their attack subs one nuclear tipped torpedo each. This, not long after they started using burst radiotransmissions from their subs.

I wonder how it will touch upon the USS Scorpion loss in 1968?

Sci-fi recommendations:

The "Dream Park" series by David Niven and Stephen Stirling. I'm anxiously awaiting the live-action gaming they predict.

"Mars" by Ben Bova. It's a nice combination of exploration and mystery.

"The Years Of Rice And Salt" by Kim Stanley Robinson. It's technically alt-history, but it's a very good look at how the world would have been had Europe been totally depopulated by the Black Plague.

"Guns Of The South" by Harry Turtledove. Time-travel, and the Civil War. I just read it for the cover...

gots

...and I don't regret it. (Yes, that's Robert E. Lee with an AK-47.)

Fantasy recommendations:

The "Sword Of Truth" series by Terry Goodkind. It's one of the best fantasy series I've ever read.

Roger Zelazny's Amber Chronicles. Intrigue, mystery, magic, and part of it takes place in upstate NY. :D

Harry Turtledove's Derlavai/Darkness series: a fantasy re-imagining of WW II. The magical version of the Manhattan Project was especially intriguing.

What a timely thread; I just got back from my local Borders with a few books. I got Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche, The Penguin Classics translation of The Koran, andA History of Spain and A History of Russia, both from the Oxford University Press. I'll probably start with Zarathustra.

I found Carl Sagan's Cosmos for $5 at a Coles the other day. Other than that I'm hoping to have enough time to read 1Q84 in October, but I generally don't get to read my own literature during the semester.

LOL. He's been slowing down though. Took him a long time to write the last 2 in the series. I like his style but he does tend to be very dark at times.
