do they all pay the same going in? should i just join the army reserve? is the national guard better than the army reserve?
i have been to the differant web pages but they really dont give that much information
This topic is locked from further discussion.
mainly i just want the easiest and highest paying branch there is lol. maybe im wrong for it but im not really into the whole "brotherhood" mentality and all the male bonding type stuff that goes with the military. im also not the type who wants to join just to shoot guns and blow things up. i just think right now its a good paying option with not having to deal with all the corporate BS and having to go to college just to get a decent jobdrachmas
Whoa, ok
I'd STRONGLY advise you to pick a better profession
One that pays well, covers you well, and doesn't allow you to get shot at.
You seem to not want to be part of "corporate America" yet you have no problem joining something that takes orders from them.

Join the Airforce, you can do so much through them, don't join the marines, while it might be the best, they turn you into a killing machine and alot of time can mess you up later in life when you leave the army. So I suggest doing something through the airforce, You can do more that just shoot stuff there are like 50 different professions within the airforce.
Oh and don't listen to the liberals who don't want people to protect this country.
the corprate world requires you to go to college for at least 4 years than kiss peoples asses and hope you get lucky enough to get hired. why put up with all that when i can just join the millitary? not all the jobs in the millitary require you to get shot at. theres plenty of positions that allow you to not be directly involved

Ok, being part of the armed forces is a noble profession when done for the right reasons
You're just looking for a way to shirk personal responsibility and pull a fast one on the "Man"
You're very misguided about what the service actually is because everything you listed above happens in the military world except you can't do anything about it. There's no quiting in the military.
The military is not like the video games you've played or the commercials you've seen.
Air Force nothing better than flying round shooting down the enemy.....or bombing them either for that matter. And so long as you can evade you good to go.lucky326
It's extremely unlikely he'd be flying in the Air Force...

You know I WAS going to let this be but then I thought to myself that someone could read it and think this is the way they should think also.
Where do get off saying that telling this person not to join the military because he's doing it for the wrong reasons is somehow not wanting the country protected?
The people who defend this nation should be doing it because they WANT to do it, not because they want the easiest way through life. The military is a commitment not to be taken lightly because that person is in charge of defending our nation.
So no, when someone says they only want to join the military to avoid other things in life I don't want as part of our military. I don't want 10 soldiers that depend on each other with their lives but one guy is only there because he "hates wearing a tie"
The idea that we can just send anyone over has diminished the military and put brave men and women in danger because they can no longer rely people that are as dedicated as they are.
So next time you feel like popping off at the mouth with some propaganda just remember that you're supporting a watered down military in this case, actually fighting the ones who want to keep the military as strong as it can be.
Be a builder or a plumber or an electrician. they're probably better paid than most servicemen, you will be in work for a lot longer, you can stop whenever you like, you can't be put in the firing line (if you serve in the armed forces they can and will drop you on the front line wether you like it or not.) and you're not gonna come out the other end of a career in plumbing with any crippling physical or mental scars.

My dad is an electrician, I worked as one this summer it's hard work, the pay isn't to bad it's not great though, if you own your own buisness pay is really good though.

not everyone is cut out for the military.
become a marine, they got best uni's, and their the tighest in my opinion. marines also got reserves if u want to go reserves. that is if u can handle the marines, there a little crazier than other branches but its worth it.cLAssic_BLUE
If you like sitting around with a bunch of ex con's and misguided teens then the Marine infantry is for you, they get the job done but damn are some of the stupid
Good luck anyway. But I'de be a tad wary about the National Guard- they're not as well trained or equipped and I heard that only 57% of National Guard units are considered combat ready, on the other hand you probably fight less than the better trained units and might have shorter tours of duty and get stationed in less dangerous areas. Marines are probably the best trained and equipped but they do the hard fighting. Navy is probably safest.do they all pay the same going in? should i just join the army reserve? is the national guard better than the army reserve?

Join the marines, it's just like Call of Duty 4.... Right...?... RIGHT?! brightshadow525
Reminded me of this.

Anyway, join the Army. The pay is the same all the way around, but the Army is the most respected. They have the most bases, so it's more likely you will be stationed when you want to be. They also have the most jobs, so you can do what you want to do. There is no question that the Army is the way to go, unless you're fond of being on a boat for 6 months at a time.

uhh you go through very tough mental tests, the goal is to make you a fighting machine alot of people can't stand it.. and after you our of your tour of duty you can sometimes have lots of mental problems, I've met alot of people like this, the marines is really tuff on a person..
And it's a branch of the Navy, but marines won't tell you that.

I know it's a branch of the Navy... You think that the Marines is the only branch in which people go through that kind of stuff? ANY combat job puts people through that kind of stress, no matter what their branch is. I think you've seen too many Marine commercials. The success rate in the Marine boot camp is pretty high. I'm not saying its easy but you don't have to be superhuman to get through it.[QUOTE="ferrari2001"]Hahaha, you do realize you only have to be able to do 6 pullups to get in right? Sure there is stress involved, but marines intentionally break down a person, just to build them back up again ready to kill, others branches don't do quite as much as the marines do.

Yeah, that elitist attitude doesn't work around here, especially when you're wrong. Sure they have different names, but they are essentially the same uniform. The Army has been wearing what they call the ACU (Army Combat Uniform) for a few years now, and it's almost identical to the Marine's digitized CUU (Combat Utility Uniform). The only big difference is that the Marines/Navy still wear that silly pointed hat.Navy. Become a Seal.Niff_T
RANGERS ALL THE WAY!
....but seriously try finding something else you like doing and go for that. If you want money in the military, you're best bet would be Officership, which is exactly like "the buisness world" (kiss up to your superior and go to college). If you want to do something different, consider odd jobs, like loggers or fisherman or something of the like. There's plenty of jobs that you can have that won't have that buisness world feel. Leave the millitary for crazy people, like me.

If you want to serve your country, but at the same time your life is important to you, then go with Navy or Air Force.
As an enlisted soldier, the Marines are arguably the worst branch of the military you can join because you are the first line of attack. In a military conflict, the marines are always the first ones to enter the combat zone. You are an expendable grunt. If you die or get injured, another Marine is simply going to replace you while you become another statistic in the casualty of war.
