No, the idea is that you disable them from acheiving their objective, since if you submit to their violence, they are unable to conquer you entirely. As well, but not fighting back, you do nothing to increase their malice.
quiglythegreat

Have you ever studied history? It's not about increasing malice. It's about using whatever means to achieve what they want. I dare say you'd fight back if put to the test. Pacifism is a theory, not a reality.

Evil in the world is caused when good men and women stand by and do nothing. Loosely quoted from a person I for the life of me I can't remember. It says it all.. Pacifism is just as bad as warmonger, the best is a center ground of rationale thought.sSubZerOo
How is pacifism as bad as a warmongering? It's the absolute opposite. This is ridiculous.

What are you even talking about? That's not a coherent argument you have there. What's not about increasing malice?

Because pacifism allows violence to continue. While you're standing there and not fighting back, other people are being killed. Both achieve the same objective.

I consider myself a pacifist in a certain sense. After much frustration ive all but given up on trying to get other people to share that point of view especialy here on gamespot, where that seems almost as pointless al pouring water into the ocean. Most of the kids here on game spot seem to be highschool generals or just downright ignorant, or their just messing with you. As far as my points of view on war i wish one day we could evolve past that, but as said in a movie (dont remember the name) A person is smart, People are stupid......, therefore with the way economics and everything else, overpopulation, environment ect are going it seems that war is going to be inevitable, I dont quite know how to say this but things are so F#$ed up at the moment that maybe a large massive war wouldnt be such a bad thing a sort of cleansing by fire if you will........we could certainly do without 3/4 of the worlds population.... and who ever is left hopefully would have enough concience to spread the message of pacifisim and environmental friendlyness...........as for the rest of us..............who knows.....

By perpetuating violence, you're obviously allowing violence to coninue. It's never 'I beat you down, this is over'. There's no closure with violence and it doesn't end. Pacifism is the beginning to that end, and it probably won't ever come absolutely, but I'll tell you this, if people hadn't took 'self-defense' as far as they once did, the world would be a far better place.

I was responding to your comment. Violence isn't necessarily done because of malice.

The idea is that good will almost...affects...people. And that the practice of violence always for the continuation of violence.

Because we don't live in a perfect world.. Evil is always going to happen including war... Pacifism is just as bad by sitting by allowing evil to happen.. How can pacifism for instance solve Darfur? When genocide is happening?

Violence ends violence. Pacifism propagates it. It's a naive theory.

Yeah clearly thats why pacifism is imo a dumb ideal.. A rational person should know when to fight and when not to. If reality were indeed peaceful then I would tend to agree, but in the end war and struggle is a unfortante event that will most likely always exist.

[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"]I think I'd be letting down my family if I did what I considered to be wrong. I actually do have one, but I'll assume you mean wife and children and such.
quiglythegreat

I can assure you if any family member is attacked and you stand there and do nothing....they won't forgive you. And you would have let them down....

Say this is true. This is just peer pressure. One way or another, that's a stupid situation and it does not happen in real life, just Hollywood movies. It has nothing to do with the values of pacifism.

Peer pressure....it's not peer pressure. How do you think your children would look at you if they saw you allow their mother to die while you did nothing? Do you think they'd applaud your pacifism?

Would you still have a wife is she saw you let your children die?

Please explain to me how you "disable" an army that is bent on conquest without using violence.

Explain how you "disable" a sociopath as he/she is about to murder somebody without using violence.

what's wrong with pacifism...hmmm......besides the fact thet it's an idealistic joke?........Natural Selection..the weak are picked off by the strong.....a pacifist just puts a target on his back that says "own me"....

Omni-Slash

Yes.

And if it weren't for those dirty capitalists and their military, you wouldn't have the freedom to come "stand up for what you believe in."
