You cant compare America to Europe or have an opinion of Europe as a whole. Europe has way too many different cultures and countries while America is just one culture. Or one big mix of them anyway.Pessu

They may be separate, but their belief that Americans are ignorant unites them. They become a whole being, ready to smite any American who goes against their predispositions about us.

No its not really an european belief. Its something that pretty much unites the whole world and its something you can thank g.w bush for. I really liked USA back when Clinton was in power. Then Bush came and it just changed. But i'm already starting to like your country a little more now that Obama is in charge :P

Yes, the British feel exactly the same about America as say, the Russians.

Since I am from europe, I shall give my view about america. I think america's are very nice people and I hope that in future I can go on holiday and see what is it like living there. I heard that the food isn't too good and that most america's are not very smart. Personally I think that that the negative things about america is way over exajurated. One thing I don't like about USA is it's goverment which in my opinion is corrupt and stupid.

Glad to hear your opinions:)

Mitjastiskovski

Get out now! We "America's" are very smart. :P I'll admit though that most of the good food over here is foreign. I like Europeans, I don't have anything against them. Their negative opinion towards American's discourages me though.

from what i've heard and seen of americans we've got better taste in clothes (i've only seen americans wearing crocs and polos tucked into thier cargo shorts) and better food also our education system is a bit better (in the UK our GCSEs are worth a grade higher compared to US HS qualification and we do them a year earlyer)

They're awesome in every way, and certainly superior to us Americans at everything! They're prettier, certainly smarter and much cooler!

I am indeed an American, and I can prove it! I will now spell colour without a u: color!

This must be adequate proof!

Do American schools still teach that columbus discovered America?

I was taught that he pretty much sailed to America, chilled with some Natives for a while, then sailed back to Spain.

Yeah, really. You do know that only a small part of Europe has english as their first language, and that most Europeans speak more than two languages. Judging a European person's intelligence by his english is terribly narrow-minded and stupid.

This is what I have gathered from living in the United States:

- Thinks that England is like the US, hold favorable opinions about the country. Does not know the difference between England, Britian, and the UK.

- It is hard to find someone who likes France, Americans have never been fans of the French.

- Enjoys making Nazi jokes about Germany.

- Is completely oblivious about any other European country.

jubino

Damn, u r good.

I'm pretty sure most people know about Amsterdam :P but yeah, that pretty much sums up the general public.

No it doesn't. At least I've never met anyone meeting that criteria. But go ahead and feed into the stereotypes if it's comfortable.

Western Europe as a whole is much more culturally balanced, they are more community driven, more critical of their government, have better (more effective clearly) education, and just have more class. They are more quality sensitive, rather than extremely price sensitive (although they are very price sensitive as well), they don't always have set prices for things when they go shopping, so they can negotiate prices, this means employees are probably not as apethetic as the ones in the US, they don't fall for gimmicks as much. The land itself is more densly populated, with historic monuments almost everywhere.

IDK just from a US perspective this is what i have picked up.

It's funny how some Americans complain about "the whole of europe thinking all americans are ignorant" adding ammunition for that arguement. Ditto with Europeans complaining about the arrogant arguement.

Alot of people don't have a proper opinion on Europe (or vice versa) because they haven't been there. Resulting in opinions about stereotypes or who they met on XBL last night. Even then, just because you met someone in a certain place who was a jackass doesn't mean everyone else is like that.

From two trips i've been on to the USA (totaling around 8 weeks) the general opinion you get on Europe is the following:

- Don't know the difference between England, Britian, and the UK.

- Hate France

- Only know of Germany as nazi's and people that started the second world war

- Think that Chekoslovakia (Spelling?) still exists.

- Are unaware that Ireland is two seperate countries (Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland) and that when they gave money to the IRA they were supporting terrorists.

- That there are constant riots over football.

-If you say Lithuania, San Marino, Lichenstien they don't have a clue what your on about. The Snowboarding instructor we had (On a break from college) told us he was descendant from scandanavians when I asked Denmark, Sweeden, Finland or Norway he inquired which ones the one that looks like a penis.

- They have no freedoms in comparison to the USA and freedom of speech is banned.

- Good few think Australia is part of Europe . (We where talking to these Amerians who said they always wanted to visit Europe when we asked which part they said Sydney)

I tend to have a negative opinion about Europe. Why? Not because of the culture or the people. Just two people in particular: Jointed and SolidSnake35 (emmas boyfriend). They haven't invited me into there homes when I go over and visit Europe one day, thats primaily the reason why I hold such a negative opinion about Europe.

A lot of Europeans share this view. This makes me wonder how you guys mesh the notion that we're ignorant and culturally isolated with the fact that we've become the most dominant country on Earth.

I've lived here my whole life. I know that by now. And I wouldn't even consider the north part of Ireland. It's englands problem.
