I don't want anybody to try to change my voice. It's not even possible.

DragonRebel0908

Lessons don't "change your voice," they teach you how to work with what you have to produce the best result.

If my voice goes through my nose then it can't be helped anyway. I can't sing from my gut or whatever or even my throat. It goes through my nose.

So...?

Listen. Singing is like playing any other instrument. You have to know how to use it. And the best way to learn how to use it is to take lessons.

You can change your voice from nasal to gut. Anyway, just copy the singer's style. The tones, the feeling etc. What I like to do, despite my plain voice is put a lot of energy into it - it makes it sound much better ^^

So what is it? You want to be a better singer, but you aren't willing to actually do anything to get better?

I mean, what's the point of this thread? If you just want to sing and don't care about anything else, then just sing along with whatever song. If you want advice on getting better, you don't duck the most frequent suggestion.

DragonRebel0908
It's not trying to change your voice, it's teaching you how to sing - there's a difference. When people sing they aren't using thier normal voice - proper singing requires a diffrent technique. Some people are NATURALLY able make the proper changes in thier voice needed to make a good sound, others have to take lessons or teach themselves through practice. But what if you don't want to take lessons? Should you still sing? Yeah! But if theres other people arround you should try to sing quietly, be considerate - just because you're into a song doesn't mean you should ruin it for other people - and thiers a time to sing and a time to stay silent. Use your common sense.

I'm telling you, the best way to learn how to sing is to take lessons. That's the best way to learn any instrument. You need to understand how the instrument works, how to use it, and how to practice it.

Singing isn't just something that's "there" for you. No musical instrument is like that. It takes work.

Then you will have to: 1. Teach yourself how to sing 2. Learn how to sing from a vocal instructor. 3. Sing in front of people with your current voice (which you say isn't very good) - but this isn't recomended. 4. Find something else you're good at. I'm pretty sure those are the ONLY options.

Look up Youtube videos that tell you how? I don't know what you want us to tell you - just find some way to learn how to sing. Lessons, self-study, self-discovery, w/e works best for you...

Singing is different. And if you took lessons for the other instruments, you'd get better, too.

Considering you're on a videogame forum, you probably play videogames. Sing while you play. My girlfriend was going to University of Miami for operatic singing (not sure the technical name) and she has one hell of a voice, and she says humming is one of the best things you can do because it doesn't strain your vocal cords. Also, just singing quietly to yourself is good too. I found that when I really started singing loudly that I could find my true range and ability though.

That's another biggie - don't sing stuff that's out of your range. If you're a bass (like me), you can't sing along with Roger Daltrey. That's just bad.

Hey, if you want to do number 3 that means your bold and you don't care what other people think - which is cool. But understand that there are ways to actually IMPROVE your voice, and SOUND GOOD, and not put other people through the AWKWARD experience of listening to a poor vocal performance. ...Look at Rudy (from the film Rudy), he wasn't physically gifted but he worked really hard and was still able to live his dream.

Depends on the song, and what key you transpose it too. Like with the Who. The two main singers for that were very high tenors.

Exception

I have a gravelly voice when I want/need/must and soda helps a great deal with this, almost feels like it makes a coating over the back of your throat witch helps me.

But for professional/choral singing, yea, milk and soda are apparently bad.

Well one thing that would help is trying to improve you voice / practicing. You see it is a lot harder doing things that you find complex/difficult in front of large groups of people than things that you can do easily. You can also try to control your breathing. Also singing in a small group is a great way to build confidence.
