What do you do if you like to sing and want to sing songs but "can't"?

Were just trying to give you advice that will help your singing. If you like your voice the way it is then go ahead and perform something for a variety show or music festival.

Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins has a very nasally voice, but I love it.

I don't sing grunge, though.

Im a voice major in college... ummm, I don't know. Technically, everyone can sing, but obviously, not everyone is as good as everyone else.

Take voice lessons if you really want to try, but lots of people just can't sing, you know?

Im sorry, I dont mean to bring the roof down. If you can sing, but don't have any training, you can totally get better and be really good, but if you can't, you can't.

Also, singing with natural feeling and emotion is the most important part, its all about tone and timbre.

But you need ear training, you need to able to match pitch...

I sing. My mom is super musically talented, and I inherited a smidgeon of her talent. I've never taken official "lessons" but I sung in choirs all through high school, some in university , and I've worked with a vocal coach a few times. It all helps. It doesn't change your voice, but it teaches you how to use it, how to control your breath and phrasing, etc. Any coaching you get will help you. Like others were saying, you just have to practice. Your voice is like any other instrument... you learn how to use it through practice and experience. And I totally recommend the car tip, that's my favorite place to sing. :P

I keep saying that I don't drive myself so I'm never alone in a car. Therefore, that doesn't work. I sing a lot in my room.

Well I dont know. I dont think one has to have a really good voice to able to sing. Idk...

I mean the situation you describe is casual so thats why i think its not that big a deal to have a very good voice.

I can't write sheet music. I only read and write tabs. But I know how I want the vocals to be sung.

well you know that old saying "dance like no ones watching?" well you should sing like everyone is hellen keller. that way you dont have to worry about it. if you like it sing it.

Well I can sing the song for the vocalist and then he can take over and just match the key better. I write aggressive rock songs so they're nothing operatic or anything.
