I've had multiple episodes of going close to the brink. Although I am a pretty messed up person in terms of mental stability, I suspect I am far from the only one.

You can always live life the way you want to live it. Create your own point or follow the many diverse philosophies around the world. Just take it a day at a time. Whatever happens happens. That's what I say to that.

You are not alone, I think of suicide and am pretty depressed sometimes too. The important thing is to try to live your life to help others though imo. From my experience self actions gave me terrible feelings. Nihilism does not mean necessarily we have to be depressed friend though I am considering opening my eyes to another religion like Islam, Mormonism or Judaism but I doubt either is that open to converts or that either will provide benefits like curing sense of a void.

It's the unanswerable question that drives us all. How to fill that void?

I'm starting to think life wouldn't be life at all if we didn't have some void to fill. Bliss and perfection is neither real nor desirable.

Plus, victory is boring.

It's basically the renouncement of any meaning or point to existence whatsoever.

It's kind of a paradox to many because the idea that "nothing means anything" is still something.

Very true, that void needs to go in my view though, I feel as if money can cure the void somewhat... I mean it is hard to be upset when you do not have to worry about finances. In my view only the elite in society know true happiness.

Please don't get caught into that trap. Even if you never had to worry about money again, there's still the omnipresent insecurity and risk of death and tragedy in the world. No money will save you from that. You might even find less happiness because of your lack of distractions in terms of career or "filler". And there will be many, many, many "sharks" of all shapes and sizes gunning for you.

Seems like a very depressing way to think. I don't spend a ton of time thinking about the purpose of my life, I am too busy living it. We all die eventually, might as well enjoy life while we can.

True there will never be full happiness and fulfillment but money and prestige certainly raise someone to a higher opportunity of attainment.

Yeah, I just enjoy myself while I can like anyone else really. I haven't found much of an emotional or psychological effect while being a nihilist because I don't really think about it or care.

Well I lean towards utilitarianism, so I suppose there'd be a bit of an overlap between that and hedonism.

I adopted a mindset of Nihilism for a short period of time. I can't exactly remember what happened that made me change my mind, but it was a mixture of reading more books, religiously listening to music, and appreciating the simple fact that humanity in itself is a very beautiful thing to have. That, and it also completely undermines human nature; we strive for a purpose, and that's usually what keeps us all together in the head.

Actually more like 99% of the time.

But then there's that 1% that doesn't brood all the time that I only seem to find on the Internets.

If atheism is true then I feel nilism is true, but as a result I think it ultimately an unlivable philosophy. one cannot go around as if they have no meaning thus they create a meaning for themselves, deluding themselves from the reality.

I used to think I was existential nihilist, but to frank, it really gets too depressing and although it holds truth, I don't really have use for it.

It gets lonely too, because when you're an existential nihilist, there's hardly anyone who would think like you.

I think nihilism and relativism are inherently unscientific because science relies on the assumption that there is objective truth. A nihilist could not be a scientist because it would not be justified for a one to look for an answer which may not exist. For a nihilist, it is easier to assume that the question has no answer than to continue searching for an answer. In my opinion, nihilism and relativism are silly ideologies for the intellectually lazy.

Well that's epistemological nihilism, which I see as incoherent for similar reasons. There's a lot of different types of nihilism and it really would've helped if the TC specified which specific type they were talking about.

We believe in nothing. It's dangerous and such a firm belief in nothing is ironically, pointless and harmful. I tried to philosophize in that way for a few years and ended up just completely empty with no life and no emotions. This was mostly a result of leaving my religion. I guess I just decided that if this was all life had to offer, why keep wasting it on being miserable? Then I got over it and got on with life.

No it doesn't; without being taught morals from birth, we don't have a system of morals. No right, no wrong, no inherent value, etc.
