What do YOU think of mods and the TOU rules(poll)

I'm never going to earn the nicest user award here and I have engaged in debates on controversial issues. I don't get modded for it, which is the result of two things - I've earned the respect of the moderators, and I write posts with substance. Don't do one of those things, and yes, the personal biases of the moderators may come into play with a moderation. They're humans, and they didn't go through a lengthy application process to determine if they were the sort of people you'd put in control of a courtroom. But quite frankly, I think that there's not one person here who is incapable of avoiding moderations. When people complain about the mods being 'out to get them' or allowing 'personal biases to cloud their judgement,' I've never failed to see something in the way they post which warrants the additional attention they receive.

Problem with most people is that they are never willing to admit that, just maybe, they're part of the problem. They always play the victim. I've only rarely seen people accept responsibility for what they do, except in the extreme case of a suicide thread where they WANT to accept the consequences. It's just like speeders, actually. They blame the "stupid speed limit" or the cop who's "trying to fill his quota." They only rarely say "OK, yeah, I was speeding and I was caught. So I need to pay the fine, because I know that's what happens when I speed and get caught."

Why not just go somewhere else without being banned? I've never understood why people go out of their way to be banned here. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to stay.

I love the mods. It's easy being a law-abiding citizen you know.

The ToU is too strict and so are the mods. And I don't go in for the 'but the mods have to follow the ToU' defence because they mod for stuff that isn't forbidden in the ToU.Funky_Llama

The TOS is up to too much interpretation also the mods could do with being more consistent. Also i think the more experienced mods have got a bit too comfortable at the top, they should mix it up a bit to prevent stagnation, there may be someone better suited to the job further down the rankings. I think the mods should try to use other methods than just punishments after the events have happened, such as in a debate thread just telling everyone to cool it or if a thread goes off topic just ask people to go back on topic instead of locking the thread..markop2003

Like for example, threads asking people's opinions of their music used to be allowed, but now when I see one, it gets locked in a matter of minutes and the mods throw in their usual "blog it" message. It gets a little over the top at one point.

Newbie here, haven't been moderated yet so I don't know what it's like. Speaking in general, since I started coming in here not that long ago I do come across a few questionable posts that I'm surprise are still out there. As some of you did point out maybe they have earned it and are on the moderator's good side, but I think it is humanly impossible to look thru every single thread and comments to determine what is and isn't appropriate. I used to be a TA for a psychology professor and after I graded 40 papers and 150 more to go, I would get a little cuckoos myself. People do slip and that is perfectly acceptable. As long as they do a good job most of the time they are fine.

They are what they are: flawed. They are flawed because for every moderator on this website there is one more interpretation of the rules. Some see the rules as rigid while others see the rules as flexible. Whether or not we like or hate them, however, they ensure that the forums don't devolve into chaos and nonstop idiocy. If you don't like them and if you don't like the system, then leave us. It's just that simple.

meh... i don't take this site seriously, so i really don't care....but there okay, i guess

the rules are fine but the mods are too strict with the way they interpret the rules. I was suspended for a few days for a topic i started and was told that i should email every one I know on herewhat I think instead. Well, I dont have friends on gamespot, I only come on here to voice my opinion every now and then and read the topics.
