I find it pretty offensive... but they bought the property for 4.2 million dollars and are now going to build a 100 million dollar mosque... It will probably be a pretty mosque but I think its going to cause controversy and riots and stuff... What do you think of the mosque in NYC being built near ground zero?

I think that I'm starting to dislike it simply because a thread is being made about it every single day. But I don't find it offensive in the slightest.

It's a block away and it's a community center with a mosque in it.

Not a big deal.

We have had so many threads about this.

Once it's built, no one will care. Why? Because it will defeat their vision held together by misinformation. Once they find out that it's a community center, it is not on top of, next to, across, beside, above, or anything ground zero, and it isn't being opened on 911, no one will care.

If you don't want them to build it, you have to sacrifice freedom of religion. No two ways here.

I don't get how it relates to ground zero at all.. yea the religion relates to people in the middle east.. so what? Anyone in there right mind wouldn't generalize race/religion. And its a free country, they can do what they want.

There are 800,000 Muslims in NYC (that's what, 10% of the population?). Some Muslims died on 9/11. The community center is two blocks away from ground zero and will house a non-denominational worship center. I just don't see what the big deal is.

How is that racist? A religion that caused thousands of people to die at that site now is going to build a place of worship for people of that religion? That doesn't seem odd at all to you?

It's not a mosque, it's a community center. World of difference there. It's not across from Ground Zero, it's a couple of blocks away. You cannot see one site from the other. This subject has been beaten to death, stop making threads about it.

Al-Qaeda is giving the world a wrong impression about Muslims, making them all seem extremist and everything (which is pure bull by the way). About the mosque, I don't really mind, it is a good thing in its own way anyways and the "Muslims are Terrorists" stereotypes can go rant all they want.

That's true but what he said still wasn't racist. Muslims aren't a race. Any race "can" become Muslim.

They can do it, but i have to question whether or not they have thought this through. They are right next to the site of biggest mass murder in US history, and they are of the same religion as the murderers. Do they not realize that some people may vandalize their 100,000,000 dollar structure in the middle of the night?

Honestly, i'd move to another spot. It would be way to risky putting it there.

Still though, they were Muslim extremists affiliated with Al-Quada. It was an act of violence that was influenced by that religion so i still think its not an appropriate location for a Mosque/community center

That makes a lot of sense. I'm going to protest the Catholic Church being next to the elementary school down the street due to all of the boys that priests have sack-tickled and mouth-****** over the years.

It doesn't matter what you say. I am sure your intentions were harmless but starting a thread like this and saying you find the mosque pretty offensive is like saying "damn those dirty muslims" to most people. I'm not sure why a thread with racist implications and overtones wouldnt be locked anyway but what do I know eh

I would like to see the reactions of those if a Christian/Protestant church was to be built in the same location, if not closer.

It's a church/community center. How bad could that be?

I don't think there's ever a history of mass murder. You have the crusades but that is massively different than the 9/11 attacks we are talking about. During the Crusade they were fighting other militants so it's not really murder. The only thing that would come close would be the inquisition. But the church only approved around 30 executions the rest were approved by non-church government officials why acted in the name of the church.

I don't know if they were Catholics specifically, but during the Serbian War in the mid 90's there were acts of genocide commited by Serbian Christians against Bosniak Muslims.

Yeah, the Crusades came to mind but that wasn't an act of terror. I don't recall any events of a terrorist event involving Catholicism
