That topic title is really offensive, whether a joke or not. Thats not a very intelligent way to start a productive conversation. But it's genious if you intend to incite some battle.

[QUOTE="Engrish_Major"] I said countries IN Europe. Yes, there are countries in Europe. Ninja-Hippo
To be fair, that's kind of a silly thing to say. There are over 40 countries in Europe. Each one has it's own system of government, standard of living, culture, economy, diversity, military, friendliness, whatever. To say "america has better integration than europe' is like saying 'the northern hemisphere is a nicer place than the southern one.'

I said that because surveys have shown that to be generally true. Don't take my word for it; here are some sources:

Muslim integration in America vs. Europe

Secular Europe's fundamental test `Islamophobia' makes integration tough for the continent's 15 million Muslims

A Trans-Atlantic Divide Exists on Muslim Integration

I'll find more if you'd like.

Whatever.

I wasn't being serious to begin with when I said that. I knew it was silly statement when I wrote it.

But we did evolve the freedoms we all now have and take granted for.

Freedom of Speech? Which country had that at the time of the constitution.

Right to bear arms? Some countrys even today have trouble with that idea.

Freedom of speech can be traced all the way back to ancient Rome. :? As for the right to bear arms; i dont think having the ability to own a gun makes a person any more 'free' to be honest.

When you said America was the blueprint of freedom and the rest of the world followed. :| Free countries have existed for centuries. Freedom was not invented when the constitution was signed.

Name some other countries that had the freedoms given to Americans before 1776-1787.

It's true that many countries followed in America's footsteps and based their new governments on that of the USA.

Americans our proud of their ability to be grossly self indulgent. Many may not understand why they have been granted this gift, they just know they love it, and pee on anyone else who may or may not criticise, based on an issue that may or may not exist in the real world, produced by real people that actually existed...

I'm surprised you'd say that, Shinobi, because we've discussed this before and i completely shot that idea of yours down. Britain is not a 'mostly white' place. There are fewer black and hispanic people here, definately, and you'll certainly find more black and hispanic people in the states due to the border with mexico and the slave trade. But that doesn't make the UK a white nation. I even gave you a link last time from the world travel bureau which said the UK was one of the most diverse countries on earth.

You're absolutely right, i'm not here to argue against Americans; a lot of countries did follow on from the states, even today a lot of African countries which have recently stopped waring with each other and have decided to set up a proper government model it on either America, the UK or France.

But that doesn't mean "american laid the blueprint for freedom' like he claimed. As someone else pointed out, a free and democratic society existed in Ancient greece thousands of years ago.

Even with all the technology we have today we would still have trouble building monuments like the pyramids of Giza and other ancient wonders. My point is ancient times had a lot of things we have today. Then there came the Dark Ages. But my question was which country AT THE TIME OF THE CONSTITUTION had freedom of speech. As for the right to bear arms, I feel everyone should have the right to carry a gun to protect themselves from some of the crazys we have out there.

See boy and girls...this is exactly how NOT to respond.jointed

Tell me, exactly, what is not true about this? The United States took the best from the Roman republic and combined it with a better, safer system of allowing the public freedoms whilst protecting those freedom, which no other country on the planet had done before. ;) While the United States was developing its government, Europe was composed of totalitarian regimes and empires, which were done away with after the example set by the United States. This isn't arrogance or pride, it's history.

Plato was put to death, definately. But i don't see your point. Any government can be corrupt in a democratic society. You seem to want to argue with me and i dont know why. :? Well, as he said, he meant "blueprint" in reference to the system in use today. Athens had Democracy but it's nothing like the representative governments today which resulted from the system created by the United States.

phillo99

You're saying that America's voting standards were similar to that of a society thousands of years old as if it's a good thing? Again, i'm not hating on america here guys, nor am i saying ancient greece was a utopia of freedom, i'm just disagreeing with the guy who said America laid the blueprint for freedom. That isn't really true. Freedom had existed for centuries prior.

Heck, he even took it back and said he wasn't being serious. What's the problem? :?

Ninja-Hippo

If you call having money, freedom of speech then sure. One of the worst parts of the Roman republic was the powerful aristocracy. It's hard to differentiate the aristocracy of the Republic and the Imperium Romanum.

Also, having the right to bear arms is most definitely freedom in every sense. It shows that the public is in power, and not the government.

See boy and girls...this is exactly how NOT to respond.VoodooGamer

Tell me, exactly, what is not true about this? The United States took the best from the Roman republic and combined it with a better, safer system of allowing the public freedoms whilst protecting those freedom, which no other country on the planet had done before. ;) While the United States was developing its government, Europe was composed of totalitarian regimes and empires, which were done away with after the example set by the United States. This isn't arrogance or pride, it's history.

It's not only arrogance...it's ignorance. The UK's democratic development started in the 1300s and slowly but surely developed throughout the centuries. The example set by the US didn't really affect us at all, our empire reached it's height long after the creation of the US.

Yet, your democractic development didn't weaken but made stronger the conquest of the British Empire, and that is exactly what the British were--an empire. The United States laid the foundation for representative governments to come. This is covered in almost every textbook.

Of course we were an empire, there's a reason why we called ourselves "The British Empire". Yeah, but that's not what you claimed, you said that we used the US as an example when we created our own democracy. Our parliament developed gradually and was certainly not influenced by the US in the slightest. France on the other hand copied your revolution.

It does amaze me how totally OK it is to bash and stereotype Americans here. I guess we are just tough enough to take it.
