[QUOTE="Famiking"]

[QUOTE="MotherSuperior"]How can you make this assumption? There are many disagreements between Christians, even today. A common language and goal is the determining factor that would allow clans to possibly negotiate and combine forces. Similar religious beliefs would only be a secondary reason, at best, to associate yourself with the enemy.

EDITED for grammar.

XD4NTESINF3RNOX

That is different sects of Christianity - heck, in essence they are different religions themselves.

In simple terms:

1 Protestant clan and 1 Catholic clan = Fight.

1 Atheist and another Atheist clan = Fight.

2 Catholic clans = Allies.

lol Catholics fought among themselves too ya know? i should know i used to be one

everyone fights but if the same beliefs remain twhen the fighting is done then they have a chance to move on.

Surviving was the only goal 2 million years ago, which triggered progress. Taking care of the young... well, it wasn't done for the sake for it, it was done so they can grow up and catch prey for the clan, a baby was an investment not human nature.Famiking

That's like saying animals take care of their young for an investment, even though some animals never see their parents again after they can take care of themselves.

The only thing atheists have in common is their lack of belief in gods. There are no positive beliefs or attitudes which can be assumed on the part of all atheists. If this is all that isin common then these people will eventually become enemys. So religion will unite people more than atheism which will make them eventually become enemys.

Famiking

You are saying that atheists don't share a common positive belief? What about the common goal of surviving, progressing, and taking care of the young? Isn't that why humans mostly get along in the first place?

Surviving was the only goal 2 million years ago, which triggered progress. Taking care of the young... well, it wasn't done for the sake for it, it was done so they can grow up and catch prey for the clan, a baby was an investment not human nature.

Exactly. This is what ultimately united the human race. Religion probably played a role, but the idea still would have remained if there were no religion. Oh, and caring for the young is to ensure future survival.

[QUOTE="garaa2007"] i have to agree that islam did help advance people socially at the time it emerged , but now people seem to more open minded so i think its time to let go of all the out dated believes

Well, most people don't believe in Islam because of social benefits, but because they actually believe in it :? So that isn't happening anytime soon. But yes I agree, the world would do fine with just atheism in the 21st century. But if religion didn't exist period, that would be terrible.

So you agree - religion DID play a role. And without religion, progress would be a lot slower, correct? ;)

you really believe people in caves in the middle east were able to pull something as big as 9 \ 11 and have the most advanced aerospace defense system stand down ?? , and were any wmd's found in Iraq ? yet another excuse

garaa2007

  1. You'd have to take into account the civilians on the planes. Why would we be willing to shoot down two planes with our own people on it?
  2. There also isn't any proof that we knew about there were any plans to carry out 9/11
  3. You'd have to take into account the fact that the terrorists never pointed to anyone nation
  4. I never said there were any weapons in Iraq or that it was even a believeable excuse
  5. Just because you are in Dubai, does not justify your arguement once so ever.

Please, stop now.

Humans were inter-dependent carnivores, before the invent of agriculture, and that's the only thing that matters really.

Please, stop talking out of your ass.

1. to save any other targets , any air defense system would shoot the plane down 2. the u.s air defense system responds to any emergency within 10 mins and assembles f 16s, in 9\ 11 case it was 80 mins before any f 16 was in the air 3.why were all of the surveillance video tapes that show the airplanes hitting the Pentagon confiscated i cant really discuss this with you any longer my point is religion turned into a weapon in this worlds rulers , and why do you think that only muslims extremists are terrorists , waht about christian extremists and Jews extremists ?

Sure, religion could be one catalyst for some social mingling. And without it, there would still be at least as much progress as there is now. It is a factor, but not a very important factor in terms of progressing as a species. Language development is a more important factor for social advancement.

Oh well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. It was a very important factor IMO.

Without religion, we would still be at least where we are now socially. Without language, not so much.

No, language development is what really improved our social standing by creating new words to describe reality. But OK, I'll agree to disagree.
