Even though I said rap is better than metal, this is wrong

Not that I hate all rap, just the mainstream stuff is such a bad representation of the genre. It's horrible, and pressing five or ten keys in a studio (like many of the mainstream artists do) and then looping them is hardly what I'd call talent. The underground stuff and the older material in the genre actually had some thought behind it, so it was acceptable in my opinion.Saturos3091
I completely agree.
For instance, my favorite rapper is Lil Wayne, has been for years. But, not because of the bull**** he puts out to the mainstream. You know, the crap meant to sell records. I prefer his mixtapes and random tracks he records.
About 99% of rap music is vocal monologues about prostitution, drugs, and gang violence, with little to no actual music playing. While only about 90% of metal music is random screaming accompanied by random banging on musical instruments. That's a lot more good metal music. Here's an example song from my favorite band.NBSRDan
I am amazed at how you managed to get those statistics.

I can see what you mean, and I agree.
I can also say that about my favorite metal bands too, though. My fave metal, like this, are never played on the radio or MTV, while the mainstream metal like Disturbed and Linkin Park get played all the time, even their older stuff.

I'm not gonna lie - I reached directly into my anus, and when I pulled out, I had two statistics in hand.rap, can't go wrong with Talib Kweli or Mos DefkingcobrasoccerHe said on average so remember that if you say rap you're including Soulja Boy
[QUOTE="enterawesome"]Poll? Also, metal dominates anything cRAP has to offer.clayron
Now, this is what I was waiting for.
Come on OT, we need more intolerance and ignorance.

Ay, pass me some of that popcorn,I definitely prefer rap, but, of all the comparisons....? [QUOTE="clayron"][QUOTE="enterawesome"]Poll? Also, metal dominates anything cRAP has to offer.tbone29

Metal has the better music I suppose... but neither talking nor persistent shouting are something I want in a song.SolidSnake35
Metal is not all persistant shouting... :|
[QUOTE="Angry_Mushroom"][QUOTE="tzar3"]I'll agree to this statement. Is that not true for both? Not that I can say I know, but that's my understanding... Depends on the metal. Some metal bands can be atrocious and nothing more than painful noise while others hit that sweet spot. Same goes for rap, but I end up enjoying more of the older stuff than the new "mainstream" stuff like Kanye.Metal. Some Rap is good, but not the mainstream crap.

I'm probably thinking of a form of metal then. Come to think of it... I'm not sure what metal is. Halp.[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"][QUOTE="SolidSnake35"]Metal has the better music I suppose... but neither talking nor persistent shouting are something I want in a song.SolidSnake35

I'm probably thinking of a form of metal then. Come to think of it... I'm not sure what metal is. Halp. Here, I'll give you a few recommendations :P. Check out each of the links and tell me if you like any :). The genres are different as well, so even if you don't like one genre, look at the others.
Heavy Metal (good intro into metal):
Black Sabbath (Ozzy Era)
Black Sabbath (Dio era, check this out even if you didn't like above link, because it's very different)
Dio
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Heaven & Hell
Power Metal:
Falconer
Hammerfall
Symphonic Metal:
EdenBridge
Kamelot (Kamelot has been ****fied both as power and symphonic metal, I'm not really sure which is more appropriate)
Nightwish
Those are my favorite genres. Another popular one is Thrash Metal. I'm going to strongly discourage you from checking out black and death metal. They are genres that are very, very hard to get used to, and most people only get used to them after other metal. I personally listen to no black metal, and only one death metal band.
Hope that helps :). Feel free to PM me.
Hope that helps :). Feel free to PM me.chessmaster1989Thanks. I thought of heavy metal as heavy rock so that's where I got confused. Not of a fan of it... my dad listens to a lot of it, haha. I quite like the music in those power metal songs but not so keen on the vocals... Nightwish are good, though. I'd heard a bit of them before.

Heh, for the longest time I had no idea what distinguished metal from hard rock. To tell the truth, I'm still not really sure on the distinction :P.
I cant see why people like heavy metal. Its some of the worse junk I have ever heard. I would take rap over metal any day.
Dustman93
Heavy metal is just rock that's faster and has heavier sounding guitar riffs.
I don't see why people like RAP. :P
