I think political issues are way too complicated to simplify it like thatJML897No, individual issues may be complicated. But your overall outlook doesn't have to be. It's like the thesis statement of a paper you are writing. Everything you say has to support your thesis. I value freedom the most. So my outlook on political issues is to usually side with freedom as a principle. One issue may be more "fair"... but if it reduces freedom, I generally disagree wih it.
platonic and technocratic principles.
the federal government, if technocratic, should have absolute power, the tyranny that is democracy should be abolished.
A supremely strong military is also required for an ideal state.

Freedom is such an empty and soulless word nowHoolaHoopManImo it always was. It's such a relative and yet meaningless concept. In any situation anyone would have something that they would say is keeping them down, whether it be the government, businesses, culture or even their own limitations within an environment. Having people feel that they're free enough is a part of not pissing them off if anyone was wondering but again freedom is a bit too subjective to bother basing an entire view around imo.
I'm utilitarian. My social welfare function assigns weight 1 to myself and 0 to everyone else.Utilitarianism.

Federal government should (in my opinion) be there to protect people militarily, and to protect their rights granted by the constitution. It should do little else.
Â
I think the government should let people be. That is freedom to me.

But a well organized government is better in every respect when compared to the individual.
a weak federal government holds the people back.

I'm aware that when people say "Freedom" they mean from Government. That is in large part when I think giving "freedom" as a response is effectively meaningless as the government is not the sole cause of tyranny nor even today your greatest concern.Freedom is freedom from the government.[QUOTE="BMD004"]

First off... it doesn't matter. For better or for worse, I'd rather the government butt out.Â
But out of curiosity, how is a well-organized government better in every respect when compard to the individual?
efficient and reliable public service, with a dash of accountability.
which is why i was a shitty government worker, because i didn't give a damn about my superiors and their extensive rules. i considered my bosses to be the random everyday people who came into my office, as it's their money i was being paid with.

what can one man do that a group of experts can't do better?
(with cost not being part of the question)
would you have one man build you a boat? or 3?
who would win in a fight a group of six or an individual.
etc...

That is in large part when I think giving "freedom" as a response is effectively meaningless as the government is not the sole cause of tyranny nor even today your greatest concern. You said freedom is a bit too subjective. But it isn't when talking about freedom from government. That is what I was talking about.Â
And I don't think they are the sole cause of tyranny. I think without strict limitations on government, it eventually grows out of control. And people lose freedoms and privacy.
Â
I also think the private sector does things much better than the federal government does.
