Once you figure out that it's just a sweeping technique on the higher frets, it loses most of it's awesomeness...

That's amazing technical playing but I don't really like it all that much. Hard to play doesn't make it good.

Not only is James Hetfield ten times the guitarist that Kirk Hammet is, Kirk Hammet is pretty lame. If anything, he's a hindrance to Metallica, which I love, don't get me wrong.
Well, the first thing that came to my mind was the guitar solo on the version of Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun from Roger Waters' In The Flesh (Live) album, so I'll go with that.
