[QUOTE="tzar3"]Ride The Lightning by Metallica, KIRK HAMMET IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!lemonfreshpandaNot only is James Hetfield ten times the guitarist that Kirk Hammet is, Kirk Hammet is pretty lame. If anything, he's a hindrance to Metallica, which I love, don't get me wrong. I know that james is an awesome guitarist, but do you have any links or anything to support that statement? i find it hard to believe what you said after watching kirk playing his great solos live...BTW, a little off topic, check this out, james and lars have a drum duel lol:

there's a first part of this, but james only shows up in the end of it, watch it to though, ,pretty cool stuff :P
Beginning of Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughn has always been one of my favorites. I could sit here all day and list my favorite guitar solo's but I don't want to.

...why? and anyway, I'm going to have to say Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
I enjoy that solo also :)
That's what i don't get... it goes on and on and on...Really, the Free Bird solo isn't an attempt at virtuosity, or even melody. It's really just an excuse to make a lot of cool sounds and build to a climax. At that it succeeds. Is it necessarily sheer genius? Nah, but it's a great solo to rock out to. I can't call it an influence, but I love the bit where the guitars do the "train cross" thing. I would consider that one of the coolest sounds in guitar playing, I don't care if you don't have good chops, as long as you can do that thing, you're my hero.[QUOTE="EboyLOL"][QUOTE="UbAdm"][QUOTE="EboyLOL"][QUOTE="yoshi-lnex"]Freebird....lemonfreshpanda

That doesn't mean I like to hear them in music. Freebird sounds terrible to me and that's the bottom line.

In some circumstances, yes.metallica_fan42I don't care how much effort you put into it, but if something is just not pleasing to the senses, I don't like it. If a riff is absurdly difficult to play and sounds terrible, and another is absurdly easy to play and sounds amazing, I know which one I would say I preferred.

Kobain gets my respect as a songwriter, but he gets none as a guitarist.

Well it's just basic power chords. Extremely easy to play.I don't care how much effort you put into it, but if something is just not pleasing to the senses, I don't like it. I like it... It's got a cool tone to it, even if it's just Kurt Cobain playing the notes to the verse and the begginning of the chorus. He's not that bad of a guitarist... In Bloom's guitar solo was pretty cool (doubt it takes much skill, either, though).Â

And that's fine to attack it for that it sounds bad. Just don't praise other stuff simply because it's difficult to play.[QUOTE="lemonfreshpanda"]I don't care how much effort you put into it, but if something is just not pleasing to the senses, I don't like it. I really don't agree about that tone. It's awfully tinny and dull.Â
In Bloom was Kurt Cobain bending some notes really hard, nothing special really.
Â
I agree he's not THAT bad, but I don't exactly enjoy his lead work.Â

Technically no, but the beginning is something that I've always considered a solo.Your not talking about the C and F he plays are you. just the 2 notes, or the chords at the start as well?
Probably Little WingI think I'm the only one who prefers Stevie Ray Vaughn's rendition of that song, compared to Hendrix's.

You guys realize Kurt Cobain had to overdub the notes, because he couldn't even play that part?[QUOTE="Maddogwill"]Probably Little WingI think I'm the only one who prefers Stevie Ray Vaughn's rendition of that song, compared to Hendrix's. You're not the only one... Hendrix's was way too short, even though he did put a lot of effort into it. Stevie improved it immensely and made it outstanding.

I'm talking about the power chords at the very beginning of the song. As I said, technically it isn't a solo, but I've always considered it one.I cant say I have a favorite but ten I LOVE are
Stairway to Heaven (Jimmy Page)
Sultans of Swing (Mark Knopfler)
Comftorably numb (David Gilmour)
Crossroads (Clapton)
 Bulls on Parade (Tom Morello)
Highway Star (Ritchie Blackmore)
Machine Gun (Jimi Hendrix)
Texas Flood (SRV)
Crazy Train (Randy Rhoads)
I've Seen All Good People (Steve Howe)

That Kurt wasn't great at guitar is actually really, really important musically. And I'm serious. In my opinion, Nirvana began the shift to music that created an atmosphere rather than music that's just a bunch of instruments. It stopped being about individual musicians (I realize this sounds terribly ironic considering the cult surrounding Cobain, now, but he was not Nirvana AT ALL) just playing whatever.I know... I laughed a lot when I learned about that. He's not a bad guitarist, though the only people who claimed him to be anything but a decent guitarist was Rolling Stone.
J Mascis was a much more talented guitarist, who had been playing far less than Cobain. And Johnny Greenwood... Go to Sleep has the best solo ever.
