Do this. If you are in Prison you are going to Iraq, etc, etc, etc. The women also. That will take care of overcrowded prisons.Easports48
To a civilian with no military experience, that sounds like a great idea. However, as a Soldier who has been to Iraq, that would be terrible. When you are at war you need to be able to trust the man to your left and right in battle. If you can't trust them people will get killed and I don't mean the enemy. You have to think about it, would you want a convicted rapist coming into your home to fix your broken sink? Think about it from a servicemember's point of view and add on the fact that you're handing that criminal a weapon. At the same time, it would probably hurt recruiting as well since your average civilian thinking about joining may not want to serve next to people put in the military as an alternative to jail.

[QUOTE="bigdcstile"][QUOTE="LOXO7"] Considering 64.7% of people in the U.S. are white, 16% are Hispanic, 12.9% are black, and 4.6% are Asian. Anything above the U.S. population percentages in prison is a terrible stat.

sSubZerOo

Not saying otherwise but, again, to eyeball these stats and then not take into account anything else pertaining to living situation and crimes committed is also 'terrible'.

I think people are missing the fact of how many blacks and hispanics are below the poverty line, where the majority of crime is committed at..

Yeah, but. The majority of citizens in the U.S. are white, which means, they are the majority in everything including poverty. So nobody can use the excuse that black and Hispanic people have more that are poor, because it is completely untrue and 'awkward fluff'.

They should make prisons a self sustaining society abd build more. Actually, that might be a bad idea -- I could imagine judges putting people in prisons just so the prison system could turn a profit.....

Hardly an excuse considering the facts. Little over a quarter of Blacks and Hispanics (25.8 and 25.3 percent respectively) are under the poverty line compared to less than ten percent (9.3) for whites. Coupling that with the fact that crime rates are higher in urban/city areas where a majority of black and Hispanics reside completely skew the numbers. As stated, you can't just look at the numbers and think you have an idea of what's going on by them and them alone.

Legalize drugs, and release those in prison that are only there for possession.

Executions. Start with murderers, and make way down to drug dealers.

Yeah, as much as it sucks at first, the military is not punishment.

this and that pic w/ patrick aswell as several other posts in this thread made me lol.......

anyway I definitely think the death penalty should be used more frequently and decriminalizing drugs seems like it would help. I also think sentences for certain things should be shorter, but prisons need to get rid of all the "benefits" (can't think of a better word) that prisoners receive. Like TV, videogames, books, gyms, conjugal visits and all that. Enough food to survive and basic sanitation is all they should get....

I know that Arizona started doing the tent cities a few years ago; basically, you don't have to build more facilities, just have plenty of land and fences and keep small groups tented together in individually fenced-in areas. The great thing is that as long as you've got land, the cost for expansion is minimal.
