Wow. There are other ways to display "one very, very lonely calorie". That's really quite graphic. You can see the exit wound.

It's a blue bean. Who cares? I've seen plenty worse, it's just an ad. I dunno, I guess I'm pretty de-sensitized, I just don't really see how bad the ad is.

Haha. What's this gonna do huh? People don't kill themselves because they see pepsi making ads about it. People kill themselves because they have serious mental issues that are not going to be fixed by telling pepsi they can't do this ad.

Yea, trying to keep the number of suicides down is an idiotic endeavour. Let's call the suicide hotlines and tell them how dumb they are for trying to help people who are considering ending their lives.

Suicide is serious, and very sad. Joking around about a serious topic like its some joke in a pepsi ad is horrible.

A tad distasteful, but then again so was the gang-rape one (more than a tad distasteful, mentioned in same article), and that didn't get pulled.

Lol. I consider it offensive that you downplay something as serious as suicide to being caused by one ad. Are you honestly telling me that kids kill themselves because they see it on ads? Are you honestly telling me that this is a cause of suicides? Seriously? Mental issues? Chemical imbalances? No? It's ads?

Downplay something as serious as suicide? That's exactly what this ad is doing! It's turning suicide into a joke.

Hmm, I don't think this ad is going to change people's minds on suicide. Some people think it's serious, some think it's a joke, some think it's stupid, some think it's a way to end pain. This ad does not change my mind at all. Pretty sure it won't change anyone else's either. What about Itchy & Scratchy? They kill each other all the time, and in pretty funny ways. Does that change my view on murder? Nope.

I find the ad to be distasteful, not to mention just downright terrible. Not because I believe it to be kind of messed up, but because it's a terrible ad in general IMO.

Why would they want to associate their brand with suicide? It's not like you see a blue bean with a gun to its head and think 'must buy Pepsi'. This should be a really easy call for that new CMO with a bit of free publicity chucked in.

I thought this was going to be about the new bottle designs. The Sierra Mist is the worst, and MNT DEW (formerly called Mountain Dew) is close second place.

The soda itself didnt change though, just the bottles. I work at a budget supermarket and we've just gotten shipments of the new design only in the past couple days. So far i've only seen new 2 liter bottles though, not the 24oz small bottles.

I've seen the small bottles in a pic online, but I haven't seen em in stores. I was just at Albertsons a few hours ago and bought a 24 pack of it.

This.

I have no doubt that regardless if this ad sees print or not (i'm betting it wont, but i could be wrong), it's already making it's waves. the blogs are blogging, people are debating amongst themselves. Mission accomplished. Whether it's right or not doesn't matter, it's making them money, because all the chatter is creating Pepsi awareness.

And now for my contribution to Pepsi's bottom line: The ad itself doesn't hurt anyone. Those that have been affected by suicide are either dead, or are worried over nothing. The ad doesn't encourage the act, survivors of suicide victims shouldn't feel that this is a slight against them. War widows don't picket war games do they? So why should anyone be ruffled about this? And that so-called "gang bang" ad is ridiculous. How many people would come to the conclusion that it depicts a gang bang if they had never been told that's what it was? It is only subliminally suggestive.

True. It's like the ad's being published without having been published, so there isn't even a moral backlash against the company.

Slightly distasteful, but awesome at the same time. Anyone who freaks out is massively overreacting. It's not like its promoting suicide.
